On F-theory Quiver Models and Kac-Moody Algebras
We discuss quiver gauge models with bi-fundamental and fundamental matter
obtained from F-theory compactified on ALE spaces over a four dimensional base
space. We focus on the base geometry which consists of intersecting F0=CP1xCP1
Hirzebruch complex surfaces arranged as Dynkin graphs classified by three kinds
of Kac-Moody (KM) algebras: ordinary, i.e finite dimensional, affine and
indefinite, in particular hyperbolic. We interpret the equations defining these
three classes of generalized Lie algebras as the anomaly cancelation condition
of the corresponding N =1 F-theory quivers in four dimensions. We analyze in
some detail hyperbolic geometries obtained from the affine A base geometry by
adding a node, and we find that it can be used to incorporate fundamental
fields to a product of SU-type gauge groups and fields.Comment: 13 pages; new equations added in section 3, one reference added and

The F-Landscape: Dynamically Determining the Multiverse
We evolve our Multiverse Blueprints to characterize our local neighborhood of
the String Landscape and the Multiverse of plausible string, M- and F-theory
vacua. Building upon the tripodal foundations of i) the Flipped SU(5) Grand
Unified Theory (GUT), ii) extra TeV-Scale vector-like multiplets derived out of
F-theory, and iii) the dynamics of No-Scale Supergravity, together dubbed
No-Scale F-SU(5), we demonstrate the existence of a continuous family of
solutions which might adeptly describe the dynamics of distinctive universes.
This Multiverse landscape of F-SU(5) solutions, which we shall refer to as the
F-Landscape, accommodates a subset of universes compatible with the presently
known experimental uncertainties of our own universe. We show that by
secondarily minimizing the minimum of the scalar Higgs potential of each
solution within the F-Landscape, a continuous hypervolume of distinct minimum
minimorum can be engineered which comprise a regional dominion of universes,
with our own universe cast as the bellwether. We conjecture that an
experimental signal at the LHC of the No-Scale F-SU(5) framework's
applicability to our own universe might sensibly be extrapolated as
corroborating evidence for the role of string, M- and F-theory as a master
theory of the Multiverse, with No-Scale supergravity as a crucial and pervasive
reinforcing structure.Comment: 15 Pages, 7 Figures, 1 Tabl
Uniaxial magnetocrystalline anisotropy in
is a paramagnetic metal and since its low temperature
resistivity is described by with , it
is also considered a non-Fermi liquid (NFL) metal. We have performed extensive
magnetoresistance and Hall effect measurements of untwinned epitaxial films of
. These measurements reveal that exhibits
uniaxial magnetocrystalline anisotropy. In addition, the low-temperature NFL
behavior is most effectively suppressed when a magnetic field is applied along
the easy axis, suggesting that critical spin fluctuations, possibly due to
proximity of a quantum critical phase transition, are related to the NFL
behavior.Comment: 7 figure
Unitary Chern-Simons matrix model and the Villain lattice action
We use the Villain approximation to show that the Gross-Witten model, in the
weak- and strong-coupling limits, is related to the unitary matrix model that
describes U(N) Chern-Simons theory on S^3. The weak-coupling limit corresponds
to the q->1 limit of the Chern-Simons theory while the strong-coupling regime
is related to the q->0 limit. In the latter case, there is a logarithmic
relationship between the respective coupling constants. We also show how the
Chern-Simons matrix model arises by considering two-dimensional Yang-Mills
theory with the Villain action. This leads to a U(1)^N theory which is the
Abelianization of 2d Yang-Mills theory with the heat-kernel lattice action. In
addition, we show that the character expansion of the Villain lattice action
gives the q deformation of the heat kernel as it appears in q-deformed 2d
Yang-Mills theory. We also study the relationship between the unitary and
Hermitian Chern-Simons matrix models and the rotation of the integration
contour in the corresponding integrals.Comment: 17 pages, Minor corrections to match the published versio
Equivariant Symplectic Geometry of Gauge Fixing in Yang-Mills Theory
The Faddeev-Popov gauge fixing in Yang-Mills theory is interpreted as
equivariant localization. It is shown that the Faddeev-Popov procedure amounts
to a construction of a symplectic manifold with a Hamiltonian group action. The
BRST cohomology is shown to be equivalent to the equivariant cohomology based
on this symplectic manifold with Hamiltonian group action. The ghost operator
is interpreted as a (pre)symplectic form and the gauge condition as the moment
map corresponding to the Hamiltonian group action. This results in the
identification of the gauge fixing action as a closed equivariant form, the sum
of an equivariant symplectic form and a certain closed equivariant 4-form which
ensures convergence. An almost complex structure compatible with the symplectic
form is constructed. The equivariant localization principle is used to localize
the path integrals onto the gauge slice. The Gribov problem is also discussed
in the context of equivariant localization principle. As a simple illustration
of the methods developed in the paper, the partition function of N=2
supersymmetric quantum mechanics is calculated by equivariant localizationComment: 46 pages, added remarks, typos and references correcte
Generalized Konishi anomaly, Seiberg duality and singular effective superpotentials
Using the generalized Konishi anomaly (GKA) equations, we derive the
effective superpotential of four-dimensional N=1 supersymmetric SU(n) gauge
theory with n+2 fundamental flavors. We find, however, that the GKA equations
are only integrable in the Seiberg dual description of the theory, but not in
the direct description of the theory. The failure of integrability in the
direct, strongly coupled, description suggests the existence of
non-perturbative corrections to the GKA equations.Comment: 20 pages; v3: corrected the comparison to the SU(2) cas
D-branes Wrapped on Fuzzy del Pezzo Surfaces
We construct classical solutions in quiver gauge theories on D0-branes
probing toric del Pezzo singularities in Calabi-Yau manifolds. Our solutions
represent D4-branes wrapped around fuzzy del Pezzo surfaces. We study the
fluctuation spectrum around the fuzzy CP^2 solution in detail. We also comment
on possible applications of our fuzzy del Pezzo surfaces to the fuzzy version
of F-theory, dubbed F(uzz) theory.Comment: 1+42 pages, 9 figures v2: references added v3: statements on the

Gauge Threshold Corrections for Local String Models
We study gauge threshold corrections for local brane models embedded in a
large compact space. A large bulk volume gives important contributions to the
Konishi and super-Weyl anomalies and the effective field theory analysis
implies the unification scale should be enhanced in a model-independent way
from M_s to R M_s. For local D3/D3 models this result is supported by the
explicit string computations. In this case the scale R M_s comes from the
necessity of global cancellation of RR tadpoles sourced by the local model. We
also study D3/D7 models and discuss discrepancies with the effective field
theory analysis. We comment on phenomenological implications for gauge coupling
unification and for the GUT scale.Comment: 30 pages; v2: references added, minor typos correcte
