    Charmed Baryon Weak Decays with SU(3) Flavor Symmetry

    We study the semileptonic and non-leptonic charmed baryon decays with SU(3)SU(3) flavor symmetry, where the charmed baryons can be Bc=(Ξc0,Ξc+,Λc+){\bf B}_{c}=(\Xi_c^0,\Xi_c^+,\Lambda_c^+), Bcâ€Č=(ÎŁc(++,+,0),Ξcâ€Č(+,0),Ωc0){\bf B}'_{c}=(\Sigma_c^{(++,+,0)},\Xi_{c}^{\prime(+,0)},\Omega_c^0), Bcc=(Ξcc++,Ξcc+,Ωcc+){\bf B}_{cc}=(\Xi_{cc}^{++},\Xi_{cc}^+,\Omega_{cc}^+), or Bccc=Ωccc++{\bf B}_{ccc}=\Omega^{++}_{ccc}. With Bn(â€Č){\bf B}_n^{(\prime)} denoted as the baryon octet (decuplet), we find that the Bc→Bnâ€Čℓ+Μℓ{\bf B}_{c}\to {\bf B}'_n\ell^+\nu_\ell decays are forbidden, while the Ωc0→Ω−ℓ+Μℓ\Omega_c^0\to \Omega^-\ell^+\nu_\ell, Ωcc+→Ωc0ℓ+Μℓ\Omega_{cc}^+\to\Omega_c^0\ell^+\nu_\ell, and Ωccc++→Ωcc+ℓ+Μℓ\Omega_{ccc}^{++}\to \Omega_{cc}^+\ell^+\nu_\ell decays are the only existing Cabibbo-allowed modes for Bcâ€Č→Bnâ€Čℓ+Μℓ{\bf B}'_{c}\to {\bf B}'_n\ell^+\nu_\ell, Bcc→Bcâ€Čℓ+Μℓ{\bf B}_{cc}\to {\bf B}'_c\ell^+\nu_\ell, and Bccc→Bcc(â€Č)ℓ+Μℓ{\bf B}_{ccc}\to {\bf B}_{cc}^{(\prime)}\ell^+\nu_\ell, respectively. We predict the rarely studied Bc→Bn(â€Č)M{\bf B}_{c}\to {\bf B}_n^{(\prime)}M decays, such as B(Ξc0→Λ0Kˉ0, Ξc+→Ξ0π+)=(8.3±0.9,8.0±4.1)×10−3{\cal B}(\Xi_c^0\to\Lambda^0\bar K^0,\,\Xi_c^+\to\Xi^0\pi^+)=(8.3\pm 0.9,8.0\pm 4.1)\times 10^{-3} and B(Λc+→Δ++π−, Ξc0→Ω−K+)=(5.5±1.3,4.8±0.5)×10−3{\cal B}(\Lambda_c^+\to \Delta^{++}\pi^-,\,\Xi_c^0\to\Omega^- K^+)=(5.5\pm 1.3,4.8\pm 0.5)\times 10^{-3}. For the observation, the doubly and triply charmed baryon decays of Ωcc+→Ξc+Kˉ0\Omega_{cc}^{+}\to \Xi_c^+\bar K^0, Ξcc++→(Ξc+π+\Xi_{cc}^{++}\to (\Xi_c^+\pi^+, ÎŁc++Kˉ0)\Sigma_c^{++}\bar K^0), and Ωccc++→(Ξcc++Kˉ0,Ωcc+π+,Ξc+D+)\Omega_{ccc}^{++}\to (\Xi_{cc}^{++}\bar K^0,\Omega_{cc}^+\pi^+,\Xi_c^+ D^+) are the favored Cabibbo-allowed decays, which are accessible to the BESIII and LHCb experiments.Comment: 29 pages, no figure, a typo in the table correcte

    Maximum Path Information and Fokker-Planck Equation

    We present in this paper a rigorous method to derive the nonlinear Fokker-Planck (FP) equation of anomalous diffusion directly from a generalization of the principle of least action of Maupertuis proposed by Wang for smooth or quasi-smooth irregular dynamics evolving in Markovian process. The FP equation obtained may take two different but equivalent forms. It was also found that the diffusion constant may depend on both q (the index of Tsallis entropy) and the time t.Comment: 7 page

    Study of Radiative Leptonic D Meson Decays

    We study the radiative leptonic DD meson decays of D^+_{(s)}\to \l^+\nu_{\l}\gamma (\l=e,\mu,\tau), D0â†’ÎœÎœË‰ÎłD^0\to \nu\bar{\nu}\gamma and D^0\to \l^+\l^-\gamma (l=e,ÎŒl=e,\mu) within the light front quark model. In the standard model, we find that the decay branching ratios of D(s)+→e+ÎœeÎłD^+_{(s)}\to e^+\nu_e\gamma, D(s)+→Ό+ÎœÎŒÎłD^+_{(s)}\to\mu^+\nu_{\mu}\gamma and D(s)+→τ+ÎœÏ„ÎłD^+_{(s)}\to\tau^+\nu_{\tau}\gamma are 6.9×10−66.9\times 10^{-6} (7.7×10−57.7\times 10^{-5}), 2.5×10−52.5\times 10^{-5} (2.6×10−42.6\times 10^{-4}), and 6.0×10−66.0\times 10^{-6} (3.2×10−43.2\times 10^{-4}), and that of D^0\to\l^+\l^-\gamma (\l=e,\mu) and D0â†’ÎœÎœË‰ÎłD^0\to\nu\bar{\nu}\gamma are 6.3×10−116.3\times 10^{-11} and 2.7×10−162.7\times 10^{-16}, respectively.Comment: 23 pages, 6 Figures, LaTex file, a reference added, to be published in Mod.     Optical selection rules and phase-dependent adiabatic state control in a superconducting quantum circuit

    We analyze the optical selection rules of the microwave-assisted transitions in a flux qubit superconducting quantum circuit (SQC). We show that the parities of the states relevant to the superconducting phase in the SQC are well-defined when the external magnetic flux Ωe=Ω0/2\Phi_{e}=\Phi_{0}/2, then the selection rules are same as the ones for the electric-dipole transitions in usual atoms. When Ωe≠Ω0/2\Phi_{e}\neq \Phi_{0}/2, the symmetry of the potential of the artificial "atom'' is broken, a so-called Δ\Delta-type "cyclic" three-level atom is formed, where one- and two-photon processes can coexist. We study how the population of these three states can be selectively transferred by adiabatically controlling the electromagnetic field pulses. Different from Λ\Lambda-type atoms, the adiabatic population transfer in our three-level Δ\Delta-atom can be controlled not only by the amplitudes but also by the phases of the pulses

    Geometric entanglement from matrix product state representations

    An efficient scheme to compute the geometric entanglement per lattice site for quantum many-body systems on a periodic finite-size chain is proposed in the context of a tensor network algorithm based on the matrix product state representations. It is systematically tested for three prototypical critical quantum spin chains, which belong to the same Ising universality class. The simulation results lend strong support to the previous claim [Q.-Q. Shi, R. Or\'{u}s, J. O. Fj{\ae}restad, and H.-Q. Zhou, New J. Phys \textbf{12}, 025008 (2010); J.-M. St\'{e}phan, G. Misguich, and F. Alet, Phys. Rev. B \textbf{82}, 180406R (2010)] that the leading finite-size correction to the geometric entanglement per lattice site is universal, with its remarkable connection to the celebrated Affleck-Ludwig boundary entropy corresponding to a conformally invariant boundary condition.Comment: 4+ pages, 3 figure

    Who Can “Seize the Day?”: Analyzing Who Is an “Employee” for Purposes of Unionization and Collective Bargaining Through the Lens of the “Newsie” Strike of 1899

    In the summer of 1899, the Newsboys of New York banded together, formed a union, and began to “strike” against two of the city’s largest newspapers in response to a price increase. After a two-week struggle, the newspaper companies agreed to compromise by buying back any unsold papers at the end of the day from the Newsboys. They did not, however, agree to the Newsboys’ classification of the effort as a “strike.” The newspapers saw this as a boycott of non-employees, or independent contractors. After the turn of the century, Congress began to pass laws protecting employees, and in 1935 they passed the National Labor Relations Act (NLRA), which protected employees’ rights to unionize, collectively bargain, and strike. The Newsboys, eager to solidify their rights, argued to the Supreme Court in 1944, in NLRB. v. Hearst Publications, Inc., that they were in fact employees. Although the Court agreed, Congress did not, and in response passed the “Taft-Hartley” amendments to the NLRA. These amendments excluded independent contractors from the definition of employee, introducing a major issue into the labor realm—how do you differentiate between an independent contractor and an employee for the purposes of unionization and collective bargaining? This Note examines the distinction between employees and independent contractors through the case example of the Newsboys and ponders if the distinction is necessary or if it merely denies workers’ rights
