Orbital Reconstruction in a Self-assembled Oxygen Vacancy Nanostructure
We demonstrate the microscopic role of oxygen vacancies spatially confined
within nanometer inter-spacing (about 1 nm) in BiFeO3, using resonant soft
X-ray scattering techniques and soft X-ray spectroscopy measurements. Such
vacancy confinements and total number of vacancy are controlled by substitution
of Ca2+ for Bi3+ cation. We found that by increasing the substitution, the
in-plane orbital bands of Fe3+ cations are reconstructed without any redox
reaction. It leads to a reduction of the hopping between Fe atoms, forming a
localized valence band, in particular Fe 3d-electronic structure, around the
Fermi level. This band localization causes to decrease the conductivity of the
doped BiFeO3 system.Comment: 24 pages, 4 figures, and 4 supplementary figure
Interpolation function of the genocchi type polynomials
The main purpose of this paper is to construct not only generating functions
of the new approach Genocchi type numbers and polynomials but also
interpolation function of these numbers and polynomials which are related to a,
b, c arbitrary positive real parameters. We prove multiplication theorem of
these polynomials. Furthermore, we give some identities and applications
associated with these numbers, polynomials and their interpolation functions.Comment: 14 page
Production and optical properties of liquid scintillator for the JSNS experiment
The JSNS (J-PARC Sterile Neutrino Search at J-PARC Spallation Neutron
Source) experiment will search for neutrino oscillations over a 24 m short
baseline at J-PARC. The JSNS inner detector will be filled with 17 tons
of gadolinium-loaded liquid scintillator (LS) with an additional 31 tons of
unloaded LS in the intermediate -catcher and outer veto volumes.
JSNS has chosen Linear Alkyl Benzene (LAB) as an organic solvent because
of its chemical properties. The unloaded LS was produced at a refurbished
facility, originally used for scintillator production by the RENO experiment.
JSNS plans to use ISO tanks for the storage and transportation of the LS.
In this paper, we describe the LS production, and present measurements of its
optical properties and long term stability. Our measurements show that storing
the LS in ISO tanks does not result in degradation of its optical properties.Comment: 7 pages, 4 figures
Type I planet migration in nearly laminar disks - long term behavior
We carry out 2-D high resolution numerical simulations of type I planet
migration with different disk viscosities. We find that the planet migration is
strongly dependent on disk viscosities. Two kinds of density wave damping
mechanisms are discussed. Accordingly, the angular momentum transport can be
either viscosity dominated or shock dominated, depending on the disk
viscosities. The long term migration behavior is different as well. Influences
of the Rossby vortex instability on planet migration are also discussed. In
addition, we investigate very weak shock generation in inviscid disks by small
mass planets and compare the results with prior analytic results.Comment: Accepted for publication in Ap
Superconducting energy gap in MgCNi3 single crystals: Point-contact spectroscopy and specific-heat measurements
Specific heat has been measured down to 600 mK and up to 8 Tesla by the
highly sensitive AC microcalorimetry on the MgCNi3 single crystals with Tc ~ 7
K. Exponential decay of the electronic specific heat at low temperatures proved
that a superconducting energy gap is fully open on the whole Fermi surface, in
agreement with our previous magnetic penetration depth measurements on the same
crystals. The specific-heat data analysis shows consistently the strong
coupling strength 2D/kTc ~ 4. This scenario is supported by the direct gap
measurements via the point-contact spectroscopy. Moreover, the spectroscopy
measurements show a decrease in the critical temperature at the sample surface
accounting for the observed differences of the superfluid density deduced from
the measurements by different techniques
