Perspectives of Pre-Service Teachers on Students with Emotional Disabilities
Perceptions of working with students of emotional disabilities or who are considered Emotionally/Behaviorally Disturbed (E/BD) is varied across the spectrum. However, one constant that does hold true is that all pre-service teachers have some hesitation in working with such students, especially if they lack any previous exposure to students with E/BD. This study compared pre- and post-test Likert-scale type surveys about pre-service teachers’ (n = 35) perceptions regarding students with E/BD. In between the pre- and post-test, the pre-service teachers were given classroom instruction and were assigned a practicum field experience to observe and work alongside students with emotionally charged behaviors housed in an alternative educational facility. The scores were analyzed via a paired t-test and findings revealed that practical observation experience at an alternative school setting for E/BD students and instruction on behavior management strategies had a significantly positive effect on survey respondents’ perceptions regarding E/BD students

Steady-state measurements of respiration rate with an oxygen electrode
An oxygen electrode was developed which measures steady-state respiration rates in a volume of 0.25 ml and at oxygen concentrations as low as 0.1 [mu]. The steady state was achieved by pumping air-equilibrated buffer into the respirometer at various rates. The method is most suitable for tissue slices.Peer Reviewedhttp://deepblue.lib.umich.edu/bitstream/2027.42/22139/1/0000568.pd
Measurement of oxygen partial pressure within soybean nodules by oxygen microelectrodes
The internal pO 2 of soybean ( Glycine max Merr.) nodules was measured with oxygen microelectrodes. For nodules in air at 23°, the pO 2 decreased sharply across the nodule cortex, and was too low to measure in the central tissue. At 1° in 1.0 atm O 2 , the pO 2 in the central tissue was measurable, and was approximately uniform from the center to the edge of the central tissue. This uniformity was probably due to the intercellular air spaces of the central tissue, since infiltrating the spaces with water substantially decreased the pO 2 in the central tissue. The results strongly suggest that most of the resistance to O 2 diffusion into the nodule occurs within the cortex.Peer Reviewedhttp://deepblue.lib.umich.edu/bitstream/2027.42/47462/1/425_2004_Article_BF00388335.pd
Measurement of Coherent Elastic Neutrino-Nucleus Scattering from reactor antineutrinos
The 96.4 day exposure of a 3 kg ultra-low noise germanium detector to the
high flux of antineutrinos from a power nuclear reactor is described. A very
strong preference () for the presence of a coherent elastic
neutrino-nucleus scattering (CENS) component in the data is found, when
compared to a background-only model. No such effect is visible in 25 days of
operation during reactor outages. The best-fit CENS signal is in good
agreement with expectations based on a recent characterization of germanium
response to sub-keV nuclear recoils. Deviations of order 60\% from the Standard
Model CENS prediction can be excluded using present data. Standing
uncertainties in models of germanium quenching factor, neutrino energy
spectrum, and background are examined.Comment: 6 pages, 5 figures. Data release and additional information in
