    Performance of multiple-input multiple-output wireless communications systems using distributed antennas

    In this contribution we propose and investigate a multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) wireless communications system, where multiple receive antennas are distributed in the area covered by a cellular cell and connected with the base-station (BS). We first analyze the total received power by the BS through the distributed antennas, when assuming that the mobile's signal is transmitted over lognormal shadowed Rayleigh fading channels. Then, the outage probability of the distributed antenna MIMO systems is investigated, when considering various antenna distribution patterns. Furthermore, space-time coding at the mobile transmitter is considered for enhancing the outage performance of the distributed antenna MIMO system. Our study and simulation results show that the outage performance of a distributed antenna MIMO system can be significantly improved, when either increasing the number of distributed receive antennas or increasing the number of mobile transmit antennas

    A new class of (2+1)(2+1)-d topological superconductor with Z8\mathbb{Z}_8 topological classification

    The classification of topological states of matter depends on spatial dimension and symmetry class. For non-interacting topological insulators and superconductors the topological classification is obtained systematically and nontrivial topological insulators are classified by either integer or Z2Z_2. The classification of interacting topological states of matter is much more complicated and only special cases are understood. In this paper we study a new class of topological superconductors in (2+1)(2+1) dimensions which has time-reversal symmetry and a Z2\mathbb{Z}_2 spin conservation symmetry. We demonstrate that the superconductors in this class is classified by Z8\mathbb{Z}_8 when electron interaction is considered, while the classification is Z\mathbb{Z} without interaction.Comment: 5 pages main text and 3 pages appendix. 1 figur

    Bragg spectroscopy of a superfluid Bose-Hubbard gas

    Bragg spectroscopy is used to measure excitations of a trapped, quantum-degenerate gas of 87Rb atoms in a 3-dimensional optical lattice. The measurements are carried out over a range of optical lattice depths in the superfluid phase of the Bose-Hubbard model. For fixed wavevector, the resonant frequency of the excitation is found to decrease with increasing lattice depth. A numerical calculation of the resonant frequencies based on Bogoliubov theory shows a less steep rate of decrease than the measurements.Comment: 11 pages, 4 figure

    A single intrinsic Josephson junction with double-sided fabrication technique

    We make stacks of intrinsic Josephson junctions (IJJs) imbedded in the bulk of very thin (d≀100d\leq 100~nm) Bi2Sr2CaCu2O8+x\mathrm{Bi_2Sr_2CaCu_2O_{8+x}} single crystals. By precisely controlling the etching depth during the double-sided fabrication process, the stacks can be reproducibly tailor-made to be of any microscopic height (0−9nm<d0-9 \mathrm{nm} <d), i.e. enclosing a specified number of IJJ (0-6), including the important case of a single junction. We discuss reproducible gap-like features in the current-voltage characteristics of the samples at high bias.Comment: 3 pages, 4 figures, to be published in APL May. 2
