Exchange bias-like magnetic properties in Sr2LuRuO6
Exchange bias properties are observed in a double perovskite compound,
Sr2LuRuO6. The observed exchange bias properties have been analyzed on the
basis of some of the available theoretical models. Detailed magnetization
measurements show that the exchange bias properties are associated with the
Dzyaloshinsky-Moria (D-M) interaction among the antiferromagnetically ordered
Ru moments (TN~32K). In addition to the usual canting of the antiferromagnetic
moments, D-M interaction in this compound also causes a magnetization reversal
at T~26K, which seems to trigger the exchange bias properties. Heat capacity
measurements confirm the two magnetic anomalies.Comment: 5 Pages, 6 Figure
Building a generalized distributed system model
A modeling tool for both analysis and design of distributed systems is discussed. Since many research institutions have access to networks of workstations, the researchers decided to build a tool running on top of the workstations to function as a prototype as well as a distributed simulator for a computing system. The effects of system modeling on performance prediction in distributed systems and the effect of static locking and deadlocks on the performance predictions of distributed transactions are also discussed. While the probability of deadlock is considerably small, its effects on performance could be significant
Factors determining spawning success in Penaeus monodon Fabricius
Spawning success in relation to the size of spawner, clumping of eggs, percentage of spawning and frequency of spawning was studied in Penaeus monodon collected off Tamil Nadu, India. The results indicated positive correlation between the size of spawner and the fecundity and hatching percentage, but not the start of hatching. Hatching characteristics were influenced by clumping of eggs or abortive spawning; the greater the clumping, the longer the time taken for hatching, resulting in a lower hatching percentage. The start of hatching time increased when the frequency of spawning increased. Lower hatching rate was observed as the frequency of spawning increased
