Shear forces in the connection of structural elements under bending
A beam consisting of elements connected flexibly along their axis is discussed in the paper.
An example of a structural system, constructed with the use of different materials is a composite
girder consisting of a steel beam connected with a concrete slab. Full interaction of elements connected
discontinuously (discretly) along the axis of the beam is a particular (theoretical) case. Taking
into account functions of shear forces and stiffness k, a connection, can be classified as rigid when
k > 1400 MN/m2. In this case, the results obtained from the classic beam (homogeneous) model are
sufficient for design purposes. In the cases presented in the paper, the results obtained using classic
model may considerably deviate from the results obtained using layered model, considered to be the
accurate one. The examples of analyses given in the paper show the possibility for the use of Fourier
series in calculating shear forces in the case of discrete connections. Using this solution, a compatibility
of shear forces with values calculated on the basis of design solution was proved to be valid
only in the case of full interaction (no shear slip). As the connection flexibility increases, the discrepancy
between the functions of shear forces along the length of a girder rises. Regular arrangements of
shear connectors were considered in the paper. The function of connection stiffness k(x) can have
a significant influence on the distribution of shear force t(x)
Budowa obiektu gruntowo-powłokowego z zastosowaniem blachy UltraCor
Obiekt zaprojektowano
z wykorzystaniem norm amerykańskich i kanadyjskich.
i wypełnieniem betonem. Jednak stal z której wykonano blachy jest o wyższej wytrzymałości
niż w tych o niższym profilu. Z uwagi na rekordową geometrię powłoki na
obiekcie realizuje się kontrolę jej deformacji podczas budowy. Jednym z wykonywanych
This paper describes soil-steel bridge with the largest span in the world. Structure is
located in Ostróda (Poland) and it is currently in a final stage of realization. Structure
was designed based on North American and Canadian standards. Steel shell is made
from the corrugated structural plates with deepest on the market corrugation
500×237×9,65 mm (UltraCor) without any of reinforcing ribs. Single barrel of UltraCor
has less stiffness then previously used SuperCor’s (381×140×7 mm) reinforced by EC
Ribs (mirrored plate and encased concrete). Steel used for UltraCor has higher grade
than steel used for smaller corrugation. Because of the large span ever used the control of the deformations during construction is carried out. One of the measurements are
displacements used to determine the change of the radius of curvature of the shell crown
point. Structures is also monitored with strain gauges giving direct view of the changes
of stresses in a corrugated steel shell. The summary highlights large changes of radiuses
of shell curvature and ability of determine them based on geodetic measurements –

Ocena stanu obiektu gruntowo-powłokowego na podstawie deformacji powłoki
Buried soil-steel structures are prone to deformations under its own weight, soil pressure and live loads, which results in a visible deviation from the design shape. Changes in the geometry of the circumferential shell strip are determined on the basis of the coordinates obtained using surveying techniques in this study. Any (asymmetrical) arrangement of measurement points is taken into account. The paper evaluates the effectiveness of three deformation indicators calculated during the construction and in-service stage. The change in the curvature of the shell crown constitutes the basic measure of deformation. The study indicates the feasibility of determining strain in corrugated sheets, i.e. the values identical to those obtained with use of strain gauges.W obiekcie gruntowo-powłokowym, w wyniku ciężaru własnego blachy falistej, parcia gruntu i obciążeń ruchomych powłoka podlega deformacji z widocznym odstępstwem od projektowego kształtu.

Reconstruction of the bridge due to incidental oversized heavy loads
(przebudowy) konstrukcji. W przykładzie podanym w pracy występuje specyficzny
rodzaj konstrukcji o zmiennym schemacie statycznym podczas przejazdu. W sytuacji
zwykłej eksploatacji konstrukcja przęsła pracuje w układzie projektowym, jako przęsło
swobodnie podparte. Podczas przejazdu wyjątkowo ciężkiego pojazdu do przenoszenia
obciążeń włączają się podpory pośrednie przebudowanego mostu. W podsumowaniu
nieprecyzyjna.Extremely heavy oversized transport is considered in the paper. Such oversized loads
appears incidentally along the road network. Approval for such transports is difficult
to gain due to the restrictions of load capacity of bridges. The results of the analyses
involved in the paper as well as results accessible in the references show that old bridges
and new ones as well are not ready to bear such oversized loads. The reinforcements or
reconstructions of structural elements are indispensable as presented in the paper. The
case studied in the paper is a specific one because static system of the bridge is changeable.
During ordinary service the span is supported by both abutments only, but when
extraordinary transport goes through the bridge it is supported also by two additional
intermediate piers. The final remark refers to the administrative misunderstanding of the
load capacity of the bridge which is based on the total weight of a vehicle allowed to
pass the bridge. Such definition of the load capacity is far imprecise
Numerical modelling of engineering soil shell structure
The purpose of this article is to provide examples of models used in ground and shell design in engineering facilities made using corrugated sheets, such as roads and rail. Despite the small size of culverts designed for transport use, sophisticated computational models are applied to faithfully reproduce them. To calculate internal forces and dis-placements resulting from the utility load, spatial 3D models with a very large number of elements are used. The paper discusses simplified 2D models allowing to accurately represent an object and its operation. The focus is on discussing three ways of discretization of a shell in the form of: corrugated metal, rod mesh and orthotropic shell
