Process for synthesizing and formulating condensed ring polymers
Chemical process for forming low molecular weight, fully cyclized heteroaromatic prepolymers under conditions which limit chain extension or branching is described. Exact procedures used in conducting chemical reaction are defined. Advantages of process over conventional methods are presented
New methods for B meson decay constants and form factors from lattice NRQCD
We determine the normalisation of scalar and pseudoscalar current operators
made from non-relativistic quarks and Highly Improved Staggered light
quarks in lattice Quantum Chromodynamics (QCD) through
and . We use matrix elements of these operators to
extract meson decay constants and form factors, then compare to those
obtained using the standard vector and axial-vector operators. This provides a
test of systematic errors in the lattice QCD determination of the meson
decay constants and form factors. We provide a new value for the and
meson decay constants from lattice QCD calculations on ensembles that include
, , and quarks in the sea and those which have the quark
mass going down to its physical value. Our results are GeV,
GeV and , agreeing well with earlier
results using the temporal axial current. By combining with these previous
results, we provide updated values of GeV,

Method for forming pyrrone molding powders and products of said method
The formation of pyrrone resins of the ladder or semiladder structure is described. The technique involves initial formation of fully cyclized prepolymers having an average degree of polymerization of about 1.5, one with acidic terminal groups, another with amine terminal groups. Thereafter the prepolymers are intimately admixed on a 1:1 stoichiometric basis. The resulting powder mixture is molded at elevated pressures and temperatures to form a fully cyclized resin
TACAN operational description for the space shuttle orbital flight test program
The TACAN subsystems (three TACAN transponders, six antennas, a subsystem operating program, and redundancy management software in a tutorial form) are discussed and the interaction between these subsystems and the shuttle navigation system are identified. The use of TACAN during the first space transportation system (STS-1), is followed by a brief functional description of the TACAN hardware, then proceeds to cover the software units with a view to the STS-1, and ends with a discussion on the shuttle usage of the TACAN data and anticipated performance
Daylight quantum key distribution over 1.6 km

Quantum key distribution over 122 km of standard telecom fiber
We report the first demonstration of quantum key distribution over a standard
telecom fiber exceeding 100 km in length. Through careful optimisation of the
interferometer and single photon detector, we achieve a quantum bit error ratio
of 8.9% for a 122km link, allowing a secure shared key to be formed after error
correction and privacy amplification. Key formation rates of up to 1.9 kbit/sec
are achieved depending upon fiber length. We discuss the factors limiting the
maximum fiber length in quantum cryptography
Midlatitude Pi2 pulsations: AFGL and ISEE magnetometer observations correlated
The ISEE observations of the pi2 magnetic pulsations occuring substorm onset in the inner magnetosphere are discussed. One of these events which was also detected as a pi2 event by the AFGL midlatitude magnetometers is considered. The event occurred when the foot of the ISEE field line was over North America. The ground and satellite signals are remarkably similar: they start and stop at the same time, have the same period and can be correlated cycle by cycle. The waves are detected in the electric field data from ISEE 1 and in the magnetic field data from both ISEE 1 and ISEE 2. Calculation of the Poynting vector at ISEE 1 shows that the energy flowed mainly westward, but that there was also a component towards the nearer (southern) ionospheric foot of the field line. The phases between the various field components measured by ISEE 1 and 2 indicate that this is a standing hydromagnetic oscillation
Increased surface flashover voltage in microfabricated devices
With the demand for improved performance in microfabricated devices, the
necessity to apply greater electric fields and voltages becomes evident. When
operating in vacuum, the voltage is typically limited by surface flashover
forming along the surface of a dielectric. By modifying the fabrication process
we have discovered it is possible to more than double the flashover voltage.
Our finding has significant impact on the realization of next-generation micro-
and nano-fabricated devices and for the fabrication of on-chip ion trap arrays
for the realization of scalable ion quantum technology
