Inflatable device for installing strain gage bridges
Methods and devices for installing in a tubular shaft multiple strain gages are disclosed with focus on a method and a device for pneumatically forcing strain gages into seated engagement with the internal surfaces of a tubular shaft in an installation of multiple strain gages in a tubular shaft. The strain gages or other electron devices are seated in a template-like component which is wrapped about a pneumatically expansible body. The component is inserted into a shaft and the body is pneumatically expanded after a suitable adhesive was applied to the surfaces
Measurements of induced radioactivity in some LDEF samples
Twenty-six stainless steel trunnion samples, five aluminum end support retainer plate samples, two aluminum keel plate samples, and two titanium clips were analyzed. The shielded high purity germanium detectors used had efficiencies of 33, 54, and 80 percent at 1332 keV. Detector efficiencies as a function of energy and corrections for self-absorption in the samples were determined with calibrated sources and unactivated control samples. Several measurements were made on most samples. In the trunnion samples, Mn-54 and Co-57 were seen and limits were obtained for other isotopes. The results agree well with 1-D activation calculations for an anisotropic trapped proton model. In the aluminum and titanium samples, Na-22 was detected. Other results are presented
Identity excluding groups
We consider the class of groups called identity excluding which has the
property that any non-trivial irreducible unitary representation restricted to
a dense subgroup does not weakly contain the trivial representation. For
adapted and strictly aperiodic probability measures on these groups, it is
known that the averages of unitary representations converge strongly. We show
that motion group of a totally disconnected nilpotent group and certain class
of p-adic algebraic groups which includes gruops whose solvable radical is type
R are identity excluding. We also prove the convergence of averages of unitary
representations for split solvable algebraic groups, which are not necessarily
identity excluding.Comment: 13 page
On heredity of strongly proximal actions
We prove that action of a semigroup T on compact metric space X by continuous
selfmaps is strongly proximal if and only if T action on P(X), the space of
probability measures on with weak topology, is strongly proximal. As a
consequence we prove that affine actions on certain compact convex subsets of
finite-dimensional vector spaces are strongly proximal if and only if the
action is proximal.Comment: 6pages. to appear in Archivum Math. (Brno) (2003
