    International audienceOne task of the accelerator workpackage of the EUROTRANS program for the design of a nuclear waste transmutation system is dedicated to the engineering and realization of a prototype cryomodule of the high energy section of the linac, equipped with elliptical superconducting niobium cavities. We review here the present status of the design and the planned program that foresees the experimental characterization of the fully equipped cavity and RF system under its nominal operating conditions

    ACCInternational audienceA Superconducting Linac Driver, delivering deuterons with energy up to 40 MeV (5 mA) and heavy ions with energy of 14.5 MeV/u (1 mA ), is proposed for the Spiral-2 radioactive beams facility. For the high energy section of the linac, a superconducting 88 MHz Quarter Wave Resonator (beta 0.12) has been designed and the optimisation of RF and mechanical performances will be presented. Based on the present state-of-art of the Superconducting RF technology, maximum electric surface field of 40 MV/m and magnetic surface field of 80 mT, have been adopted which should allow to reach an accelerating field of 7 MV/m (energy gain 3 MeV per resonator). A first complete prototype is under construction. The high intensity deuteron beam specifications have imposed the design of an original power coupler (maximum power 20 KW). The RF, mechanical, and thermal characteristics will be presented. The design of the cryomodule for this high energy section, integrating two QWR with its associated equipments (couplers, tuners, helium tanks), will be presented

    Spiral2 cryomodules B tests results

    MOP010International audienceAssembly and tests of the SPIRAL2 superconducting linac's cryomodules at CEA/Saclay and IPN/Orsay have now reached cruising speed after having faced a series of problems, among them contamination. 19 cryomodules are composing the whole Linac and IPN Orsay is in charge of the 7 cryomodules B, housing two 88 MHz, beta 0.12 Quarter-Wave Resonators. Threecryomodules have been assembled and successfullytested up to the nominal gradient of 6.5 MV/m for all cavities with also cryogenic losses withinspecifications. Two of them are fully qualified and already delivered to GANIL. The thirdone showed misalignment ofone cavity which could lead to partial disassembly if needed. This paper presents the results of those cryomodules tests as well as the status of the remaining ones

    Design and Status of SPIRAL 2 Cryogenic System

    SPIRAL2 is a rare isotope accelerator witch will based for next years at GANIL laboratory in Caen, France.This machine is dedicated for the production of high intensity radioactive beams (E= 40 Mev, I= 5mA). The driver of SPIRAL2 is a Linac, it uses bulk niobium quarter wave superconducting RF cavities cooled with liquid helium. Mainly, the Linac is composed of two types of cryomodules: 12 CryomoduleA with one cavity and 7 CryomoduleB with two cavities respectively for low and high energy section. The Linac cryogenic transfer line is composed of about 19 valves boxes witch provide to cryomodules two types of helium cryogenic lines: The first at T=4.3K to feed the cavities and the second atT=60K for the thermal shield. There frigerator of this cryogenic installation must evacuate a totat heat loss of about 1kW at T=4.3K and 2.5kW at T=60K. After a short introduction of SPIRAL2 project, the cryogenic installation design will be detailed and its different operation modes will be described. The preliminary cryogenic experimental test results of the first cryomoduleB and A at IPN ORSAY will be also presented and interpreted
