The Devil in the Details: Simple and Effective Optical Flow Synthetic Data Generation
Recent work on dense optical flow has shown significant progress, primarily
in a supervised learning manner requiring a large amount of labeled data. Due
to the expensiveness of obtaining large scale real-world data, computer
graphics are typically leveraged for constructing datasets. However, there is a
common belief that synthetic-to-real domain gaps limit generalization to real
scenes. In this paper, we show that the required characteristics in an optical
flow dataset are rather simple and present a simpler synthetic data generation
method that achieves a certain level of realism with compositions of elementary
operations. With 2D motion-based datasets, we systematically analyze the
simplest yet critical factors for generating synthetic datasets. Furthermore,
we propose a novel method of utilizing occlusion masks in a supervised method
and observe that suppressing gradients on occluded regions serves as a powerful
initial state in the curriculum learning sense. The RAFT network initially
trained on our dataset outperforms the original RAFT on the two most
challenging online benchmarks, MPI Sintel and KITTI 2015
A New pH-ISFET Based Dissolved Oxygen Sensor
A new dissolved oxygen sensor based on pH-ISFET has been discussed. A platinum working electrode surrounding a pH-sensing gate of the pH-ISFET electrolyzes dissolved oxygen, resulting in a corresponding pH change. The pH-ISFET can determine dissolved oxygen concentration through detecting this pH change. --Summar
Miniaturized ISFET Glucose Sensor Including a New Structure Actuation System
A new principle of an amperometric actuation technique was incorporated in the ISFET glucose sensor. The ISFET is fabricated by the CMOS process and the platinum working electrode is deposited by the lift-off process. A sensor with a specially designed ladder type working electrode exhibits improved operation in response time, response magnitude and detection range. An expectation concerning the reduction of sensor size is also discussed
Configuration for Micro pH Sensor
A fully integrated pH sensor with a built-in reference electrode is proposed. An iridium oxide microelectrode and a pH-insensitive field-effect transistor are used as a pH sensor and a reference electrode, respectively. The sensitivity of the proposed device matches well with the estimated value to within 0.3 mV/pH deviation
Enabling Grant-Free URLLC for AoI Minimization in RAN-Coordinated 5G Health Monitoring System
Age of information (AoI) is used to evaluate the performance of 5G health monitoring systems because stale data can be fatal for patients with serious illness. Recently, grant-free ultra-reliable and low latency communications (URLLC) have shown greater potential of minimizing AoI than conventional grant-based approaches; however, existing grant-free schedulers cannot provide guaranteed performance in 5G health monitoring systems because they involve two fundamental problems in time and frequency domains, namely the joint scheduling problem and physical resource block (PRB) allocation. In this study, we investigate two resource allocation problems for the first time, aiming to enable grant-free URLLC to minimize AoI in 5G health monitoring systems. Specifically, we propose two adaptive solutions based on an open radio access network-coordinated wireless system: 1) a joint scheduling algorithm and 2) an adaptive PRB allocation algorithm. To verify the effectiveness of the proposed solutions, we built a simulation environment similar to a real health monitoring system and captured the performance variations under realistic deployment scenarios
Simultaneous fabrication of line defects-embedded periodic lattice by topographically assisted holographic lithography
We have demonstrated simultaneous fabrication of designed defects within a periodic structure. For rapid fabrication of periodic structures incorporating nanoscale line-defects at large area, topographically assisted holographic lithography (TAHL) technique, combining the strength of hologram lithography and phase-shift interference, was proposed. Hot-embossing method generated the photoresist patterns with vertical side walls which enabled phase-shift mask effect at the edge of patterns. Embossing temperature and relief height were crucial parameters for the successful TAHL process. Periodic holes with a diameter of 600 nm at a 1 μm-pitch incorporating 250 nm wide line-defects were obtained simultaneously
Photo‐Enhanced Magnesium‐Ion Capacitors Using Photoactive Electrodes
Off-grid power sources are becoming increasingly important for
applications ranging from autonomous sensor networks to fighting energy
poverty. Interactions of light with certain classes of battery and capacitor
materials have recently gained attention to enhance the rate performance or
to even charge energy storage devices directly with light. Interestingly, these
devices have the potential to reduce the volume and cost of autonomous
power sources. Here, a light-enhanced magnesium (Mg)-ion capacitor is
shown. The latter is interesting because of the large natural abundance
of Mg and its ability to operate in low cost and non-flammable aqueous
electrolytes. Photoelectrodes using a combination of vanadium dioxide
and reduced graphene oxide can achieve capacitance enhancements of
up to 56% under light exposure alongside a 21% higher energy density of
20.5 mAh kg-1
EFFECTS OF SALINITY ON OXYGEN CONSUMPTION AND BLOOD PROPERTIES OF YOUNG GREY MULLETS Mugil cephalus
Oxygen consumption (OC) is one of important factors in aquaculture activities, as the oxygen is a vital condition for all the organisms living in the water and having an aerobic type of respiration. OC is the preferred method for measuring and reporting the metabolic rate in fish. The aims of this study were to evaluate the effects of salinity on OC and blood properties of grey mullets. Five experimental groups were conducted to measure OC and blood properties of grey mullets Mugil cephalus (BW: 187.9 ± 45.8 g) according to salinity (30→0 psu, 0→30 psu) changes; SDS: fish reared in seawater (SW, 30 psu) directly shifted to SW, SGF: SW fish gradually shifted to freshwater (FW, 0 psu), SDF: SW fish directly shifted to FW, FDF: FW fish directly shifted to FW, and FDS: FW fish directly shifted to SW. The result showed that OC tended to decrease in the groups of SW fish shifted to FW showing 194.5 mg O2/kg/h at 25°C in SDS to 82.4 mg O2/kg/h at 15°C in SGF. On the contrary, OC increased in the groups of FW fish shifted to SW showing 80.5 mg O2/kg/h at 15°C in FDF to 184.0 mg O2/kg/h at 25°C in FDS. Cortisol levels at the end of experiments were rapidly increased with the lowering salinities in SW fish shifted to FW showing 20.6 ng/mL in SDS to 316.2 ng/mL in SDF, while those were decreased with the increasing salinities in FW fish shifted to SW showing 40.2 ng/mL in FDF to 10.3 ng/mL in FDS. However, glucose levels showed no significant differences among all experimental groups. Based on the information from this study, aquaculture of grey mullet might be applied or developed in freshwater due to its osmotic adaptation ability
