Inhomogeneous Gain Saturation in EDF: Experiment and Modeling
Erbium-Doped Fiber Amplifiers can present holes in spectral gain in
Wavelength Division Multiplexing operation. The origin of this inhomogeneous
saturation behavior is still a subject of controversy. In this paper we present
both an experimental methods and a gain's model. Our experimental method allow
us to measure the first homogeneous linewidth of the 1.5 m erbium emission
with gain spectral hole burning consistently with the other measurement in the
literature and the model explains the differences observed in literature
between GSHB and other measurement methods
Experimental and numerical analysis of the chromatic dispersion dependence upon the actual profile of small core microstructured fibres
International audienceThe chromatic dispersion curve of the fundamental mode in small core microstructured fibres (SCMF) is both calculated using a Finite Element Method (FEM) and measured with a low coherence interferometric method. The great sensitivity of the chromatic dispersion to variations of the geometrical parameters of SCMFs (the pitch and the diameter) is pointed out. An excellent agreement is obtained between the numerical and the experimental results over a half micrometer spectral bandwidth [1.1 µm-1.6 µm]
The very forward hadron calorimeter PSD for the future CBM@FAIR experiment
The Projectile Spectator Detector (PSD) of the CBM experiment at the future FAIR facility is a compensating lead-scintillator calorimeter designed to measure the energy distribution of the forward going projectile nucleons and nuclei fragments (reaction spectators) produced close to the beam rapidity. The detector performance for the centrality and reaction plane determination is re- viewed based on Monte-Carlo simulations of gold-gold collisions by means of four different heavy-ion event generators. The PSD energy resolution and the linearity of the response measured at CERN PS for the PSD supermodule consisting of 9 modules are presented. Predictions of the calorimeter radiation conditions at CBM and response measurement of one PSD module equipped with neutron irradiated MPPCs used for the light read out are discussed
