    Aanbid die godsdienste dieselfde God?

Do all religions pray to the same God?A highly debated matter in South African religopolitical field is the questionof whether different religions may worship together and if they pray to the same god at all. This question has come to the fore during the negotiation phase for a new governmental dispensation in this country, as well as in the opening prayers for Parliament in a pluralistic society. An exposition of the different views is given. The author opts for a view of existential experience of the personal, revealed, One and Only God. This conviction gives us the confidence in the Gospel so indispensable to the life of our churches in a pluralistic context. The dichotomy between subjectivityand objectivity is being rejected as is the consequent attitude of timidity or of anxiety on the part o f the Christians in South Africa. A distinction should be made between worship in the church and prefers in a worldly situation

En nou bly Skepper, skepsel, skepping - hierdie drie: 'n Teologiese profiel van die ekologiese debat

These three remain. Creator, creature, creation: A theological profile of the ecological debateIn a comprehensive article the author points out that the problem of the relationship between man and nature has become eminent as a result of the ecological crisis. In his search to find a coherence of being, the author presents a state of affairs of the current debate. The solution is being looked for in a pneumatological doctrine of creation which accommodates the quantum physic's concept of time together with that of evolution

Descendit ad [in] inferna:‘A matter of no small moment in bringing about redemption’

This article endorses Calvin’s conviction that the ‘descendit ad inferna’ of the Apostles’ Creed is part of the ‘summary of doctrine‘ and a matter of ‘no small moment in bringing about redemption‘ (Calvin 1960:Inst. II, xvi, 8). The reason for this role, however, is not Calvin’s metaphorical interpretation of the clause. Instead, the author tries to argue that a scientifi c theological approach will maintain the clause because of its transcendence of fi nitude and the proclamation of Christ’s victory. Thewhole of creation is delivered from sin. Proper hermeneutics will take the original socio–historical environment into account and make one suspicious about certain ecclesiastical biases. Spatial termsin the Creed should therefore not be demythologised, but rather be transformed in accordance with the insights of the contemporary physics of time and space

Die paradigmas van ‘Kerk en wêreld 2000’

The paradigms of Kerk en wêreld 2000This important publication of the Nederduitsch Hervormde Kerk van Afrika deals with the relationship between the Nederduitsch Hervormde Kerk and its society within the next decade. It gives an expanded view of the address of the church’s kerygma. The author of this article tries to identify a specific paradigm of the relation between church and society within which this matter neither corresponds to that of Luther nor to that of Calvin, although traces of both are being recognised. The author sees the reason for this in the fact that the Nederduitsch Hervormde Kerk, according to this publication, is willing to take the situation in which he works and lives seriously into consideration. The following paradigm shift can thus be noted: the more the church gets worried about the present situation, the less he is Lutheran and the more he is Calvinis-tic

Interdisciplinary innovator-entrepreneur collaboration for commercialisation of university innovations

    Get PDF
Abstract : With the growing unemployment rate as well as decline of entrepreneurial ventures in South Africa, alternative ways need to be investigated to increase entrepreneurship efforts and increase employment opportunity. Publicly funded universities throughout South Africa develop innovations as part of research outputs that through further development and refinement could be commercialised. Not many of these researchers or academics are entrepreneurially inclined and usually obtain the assistance of the Technology Transfer Office (TTO) for assistance in driving innovation to a commercial conclusion. However, human resources within these Technology Transfer Offices do not necessarily have the required entrepreneurial skills or work force to successfully push these innovations to the market. At the same time, students throughout South Africa have the opportunity to study entrepreneurship through modules, degrees and short courses, yet do not always have access to good business ideas or get the exposure to apply the theory practically while getting expert guidance. It is against this background that the study was undertaken with the aim to address the possibility of successfully commercialising university innovations through interdisciplinary collaborations between innovators and entrepreneurs. The study examined publicly funded universities in South Africa as the population and utilised qualitative methods such as semi-structured interviews and case studies. Respondents working in Technology Transfer Offices at these institutions were requested to share retrospective specific details regarding a commercialised innovation. From the information obtained of the participating institutions, the objectives were addressed to include the success factors contributing to collaborations between innovators and entrepreneurs, hindrances affecting these collaborations, factors that encourage working together, specific requirements needed to encourage these interdisciplinary collaborations as well as considerations to be taken into thought in expanding the teaching of entrepreneurship at universities.M.Com. Die skepping as gelykenis: 'n Beoordeling van die skeppingsleer van Karl Barth in die lig van die appel van die ekologiese krisis

The creation as an analogy: An assessment of the doctrine of creation of Karl Barth in the light of the appeal of the ecological crisis. In a comprehensive article in Afrikaans, the author points out that the problem of the relation between man and nature has become eminent as a result of the ecological crisis. The doctrine of creation as offered by Barth, does to a certain extent, present a coherence of being amongst creatures, but is nontheless not accepted. The main reason for this is that his ontological principle of covenant imputes a docetic character to the creation. This is ascribed to the fact that Barth operated with a canon behind the canon. The author concludes his article by outlining some distinctive features of a theologia naturae

Marriage in the theology of Martin Luther – worldly yet sacred: An option between secularism and clericalism

    Get PDF
Marriage, according to Martin Luther, is an institution both secular and sacred. It is secular because it is an order of this earthly life. But its institution goes back to the beginning of the human race and that makes marriage sacred, a divine and holy order. It does not – like the sacraments – nourish and strengthen faith or prepare people for the life to come; but it is a secular order in which people can prove faith and love, even though they are apt to fail without the help of the Word and the sacrament. The author applies this view of Luther in terms of two unacceptable extremes: the creation ordinances of Brunner and the analogy of relation of Barth. The dialectic of Law and Gospel should never be dispensed.Marriage is necessary as a remedy for lust, and through marriage God permits sexual intercourse. Similar is the allegory which Paul employs: that Adam and Eve, or marriage itself, is a type of Christ and the church
