Common Weeds as a Cause of Perirenal Edema In Swine
The disease problem described here has been diagnosed with increased frequency in Iowa during the last few years. The literature contains very few references to perirenal edema as a lesion in swine, and even fewer references to the condition as a distinct disease syndrome

Information measures for relativistic quantum spinors are constructed to
satisfy various postulated properties such as normalisation invariance and
positivity. Those measures are then used to motivate generalised Lagrangians
meant to probe shorter distance physics within the maximum uncertainty
framework. The modified evolution equations that follow are necessarily
nonlinear and simultaneously violate Lorentz invariance, supporting previous
heuristic arguments linking quantum nonlinearity with Lorentz violation. The
nonlinear equations also break discrete symmetries. We discuss the implications
of our results for physics in the neutrino sector and cosmology
Clarification of the relationship between bound and scattering states in quantum mechanics: Application to 12C + alpha
Using phase-equivalent supersymmetric partner potentials, a general result
from the inverse problem in quantum scattering theory is illustrated, i.e.,
that bound-state properties cannot be extracted from the phase shifts of a
single partial wave, as a matter of principle. In particular, recent R-matrix
analyses of the 12C + alpha system, extracting the asymptotic normalization
constant of the 2+ subthreshold state, C12, from the l=2 elastic-scattering
phase shifts and bound-state energy, are shown to be unreliable. In contrast,
this important constant in nuclear astrophysics can be deduced from the
simultaneous analysis of the l=0, 2, 4, 6 partial waves in a simplified
potential model. A new supersymmetric inversion potential and existing models
give C12=144500+-8500 fm-1/2.Comment: Expanded version (50% larger); three errors corrected (conversion of

Effects of impulsive noise on marine mammals : investigating range-dependent risk

alpha-nucleus potentials for the neutron-deficient p nuclei
alpha-nucleus potentials are one important ingredient for the understanding
of the nucleosynthesis of heavy neutron-deficient p nuclei in the astrophysical
gamma-process where these p nuclei are produced by a series of (gamma,n),
(gamma,p), and (gamma,alpha) reactions. I present an improved alpha-nucleus
potential at the astrophysically relevant sub-Coulomb energies which is derived
from the analysis of alpha decay data and from a previously established

Error estimation on extracorporeal trajectory determination from body scans.
This study explores the magnitude of two sources of error that are introduced when extracorporeal bullet trajectories are based on post-mortem computed tomography (PMCT) and/or surface scanning of a body. The first source of error is caused by an altered gravitational pull on soft tissue, which is introduced when a body is scanned in another position than it had when hit. The second source of error is introduced when scanned images are translated into a virtual representation of the victim's body. To study the combined magnitude of these errors, virtual shooting trajectories with known vertical angles through five "victims" (live test persons) were simulated. The positions of the simulated wounds on the bodies were marked, with the victims in upright positions. Next, the victims were scanned in supine position, using 3D surface scanning, similar to a body's position when scanned during a PMCT. Seven experts, used to working with 3D data, were asked to determine the bullet trajectories based on the virtual representations of the bodies. The errors between the known and determined trajectories were analysed and discussed. The results of this study give a feel for the magnitude of the introduced errors and can be used to reconstruct actual shooting incidents using PMCT data
