Electron trapping optical data storage system and applications
A new technology developed at Optex Corporation out-performs all other existing data storage technologies. The Electron Trapping Optical Memory (ETOM) media stores 14 gigabytes of uncompressed data on a single, double-sided 130 mm disk with a data transfer rate of up to 120 megabits per second. The disk is removable, compact, lightweight, environmentally stable, and robust. Since the Write/Read/Erase (W/R/E) processes are carried out photonically, no heating of the recording media is required. Therefore, the storage media suffers no deleterious effects from repeated W/R/E cycling. This rewritable data storage technology has been developed for use as a basis for numerous data storage products. Industries that can benefit from the ETOM data storage technologies include: satellite data and information systems, broadcasting, video distribution, image processing and enhancement, and telecommunications. Products developed for these industries are well suited for the demanding store-and-forward buffer systems, data storage, and digital video systems needed for these applications
Spin-String Interaction in QCD Strings
I consider the question of the interaction between a QCD string and the spin
of a quark or an antiquark on whose worldline the string terminates. The
problem is analysed from the point of view of a string representation for the
expectation value of a Wilson loop for a spin-half particle. A string
representation of the super Wilson loop is obtained starting from an effective
string representation of a Wilson Loop. The action obtained in this manner is
invariant under a worldline supersymmetry and has a boundary term which
contains the spin-string interaction. For rectangular loops the spin-string
interaction vanishes and there is no spin-spin term in the resulting heavy
quark potential. On the other hand if an allowance is made for the finite
intrinsic thickness of the flux-tube, by assuming that the spin-string
interaction takes place not just at the boundary of the string world-sheet but
extends to a distance of the order of the intrinsic thickness of the flux tube,
then we do obtain a spin-spin interaction which falls as the fifth power of the
distance. Such a term was previously suggested by Kogut and Parisi in the

Study of the 2-d CP(N-1) models at \theta=0 and \pi
We present numerical results for 2-d CP(N-1) models at \theta=0 and \pi
obtained in the D-theory formulation. In this formulation we construct an
efficient cluster algorithm and we show numerical evidence for a first order
transition for CP(N-1\geq 2) models at \theta = \pi. By a finite size scaling
analysis, we also discuss the equivalence in the continuum limit of the
D-theory formulation of the 2-d CP(N-1) models and the usual lattice

Adaptive Multigrid Algorithm for Lattice QCD
We present a new multigrid solver that is suitable for the Dirac operator in
the presence of disordered gauge fields. The key behind the success of the
algorithm is an adaptive projection onto the coarse grids that preserves the
near null space. The resulting algorithm has weak dependence on the gauge
coupling and exhibits very little critical slowing down in the chiral limit.
Results are presented for the Wilson Dirac operator of the 2d U(1) Schwinger

Diffractive Higgs Production by AdS Pomeron Fusion
The double diffractive Higgs production at central rapidity is formulated in
terms of the fusion of two AdS gravitons/Pomerons first introduced by Brower,
Polchinski, Strassler and Tan in elastic scattering. Here we propose a simple
self-consistent holographic framework capable of providing phenomenologically
compelling estimates of diffractive cross sections at the LHC. As in the
traditional weak coupling approach, we anticipate that several phenomenological
parameters must be tested and calibrated through factorization for a
self-consistent description of other diffractive process such as total cross
sections, deep inelastic scattering and heavy quark production in the central
