Distinctive Features of the African-American Family: Debunking the Myth of the Deficit Model

    Get PDF
Throughout the 1900\u27s, social scientists have debated the question of whether the African American family is an adaptative social system or whether it is pathological, perpetuating its poverty over the generations. This article examines the holistic perspective as the preeminent comprehensive approach in studying the African American family and provides empirical evidence of distinctive features of the African American family in support of the adaptation argument. The adaptation/deficit debate will probably continue as long as the scientific community fails to fully acknowledge and make the most of theoretical constructs that are holistic in principle and design

Partial-Wave Analysis of Single-Pion Production Reactions

We present an overview of our efforts to analyze pion-nucleon elastic scattering data, along with data from related photo- and electroproduction reactions, in order to study the baryon spectrum. We then focus on the Delta(1232) resonance. Fits to pion photo- and electroproduction data have been used to extract values for the R_EM = E2/M1 and R_SM = S2/M1 ratios as functions of Q^2. These results are compared to other recent determinations.Comment: 7 pages, 9 figures, the Shape of Hadrons Workshop Proceedings (27-29 April, 2006 Athens, Greece

Results from the Analysis of Crystal Ball Meson Production Measurements at BNL

The Crystal Ball spectrometer, with its nearly complete angular coverage, is an efficient detector of photon and neutron final states. While installed in the C6 beamline of the Alternating Gradient Synchrotron (AGS) of Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL), this feature was used in a series of precise measurements of reactions with all-neutral final states. Here we concentrate on the analysis of data from the pion-induced reactions: pi- p --> gamma n, pi- p --> pi0 n, pi- p --> eta n, and pi- p --> pi0 pi0 n.Comment: Conference contribution to MESON 2006 - Krakow, Pola

Value, variety and viability: designing for co-creation in a complex system of direct and indirect (goods) service value proposition

Conference paper; forthcoming in The 2011 Naples Forum on Service – Service-Dominant logic, Network & Systems Theory and Service Science: integrating three perspectives for a new service agenda, Capri, Italy, 14-17 June 2011While service-dominant logic proposes that all “Goods are a distribution mechanism for service provision” (FP3), there is a need to understand when and why a firm would utilise direct or indirect (goods) service provision, and the interactions between them, to co-create value with the customer

Effect of Sigma-beam Asymmetry Data on Fits to Single Pion Photoproduction off Neutron

We investigate the influence of new GRAAL Sigma-beam asymmetry measurements on the neutron in multipole fits to the single-pion photoproduction database. Results are compared to those found with the addition of a double-polarization quantity associated with the sum rule.Comment: 4 pages, 4 figures, 1 table; v2/v3: minor corrections; Presented at the 8th Workshop on the Physics of Excited Nucleons (NSTAR2011), Newport News, USA, May 201
