The dynamics of quasi-isometric foliations
If the stable, center, and unstable foliations of a partially hyperbolic
system are quasi-isometric, the system has Global Product Structure. This
result also applies to Anosov systems and to other invariant splittings.
If a partially hyperbolic system on a manifold with abelian fundamental group
has quasi-isometric stable and unstable foliations, the center foliation is
without holonomy. If, further, the system has Global Product Structure, then

Fractal Weyl law for quantum fractal eigenstates
The properties of the resonant Gamow states are studied numerically in the
semiclassical limit for the quantum Chirikov standard map with absorption. It
is shown that the number of such states is described by the fractal Weyl law
and their Husimi distributions closely follow the strange repeller set formed
by classical orbits nonescaping in future times. For large matrices the
distribution of escape rates converges to a fixed shape profile characterized

Distributed Generation and Resilience in Power Grids
We study the effects of the allocation of distributed generation on the
resilience of power grids. We find that an unconstrained allocation and growth
of the distributed generation can drive a power grid beyond its design
parameters. In order to overcome such a problem, we propose a topological
algorithm derived from the field of Complex Networks to allocate distributed

Cross-linguistic study of vocal pathology: perceptual features of spasmodic dysphonia in French-speaking subjects
Clinical characterisation of Spasmodic Dysphonia of the adductor type (SD) in French speakers by Klap and colleagues (1993) appears to differ from that of SD in English. This perceptual analysis aims to describe the phonetic features of French SD. A video of 6 French speakers with SD supplied by Klap and colleagues was analysed for frequency of phonatory breaks, pitch breaks, harshness, creak, breathiness and falsetto voice, rate of production, and quantity of speech output. In contrast to English SD, the French speaking SD patients demonstrated no evidence pitch breaks, but phonatory breaks, harshness and breathiness were prominent features. This verifies the French authorsâ (1993) clinical description. These findings suggest that phonetic properties of a specific language may affect the manifestation of pathology in neurogenic voice disorders
Effects of experimental hypervitaminosis D3 on renal effects of intragastral and parenteral injection of zinc chloride
The objective was to study the effect of hypercalcemia on the changes of renal function due to intragastric and subcutaneous administration of zinc chloride. Hypercalcemia was modeled in rats by introducing them an aqueous solution of vitamin D3 at a dose of 3000 ĐĐ (0,2 ml)/100 g for 30 days. Zinc chloride was administered intragastrally and subcutaneously at a dose of 20 mg/kg daily for 30 days. The study found that hypercalcemia leaded to more severe manifestations of toxic nephropathy in rats with intragastric administration of zinc chloride and in rats with subcutaneous administration of metal, however, it leaded to lower damaging effect on the kidneys
You can't see what you can't see: Experimental evidence for how much relevant information may be missed due to Google's Web search personalisation
The influence of Web search personalisation on professional knowledge work is
an understudied area. Here we investigate how public sector officials
self-assess their dependency on the Google Web search engine, whether they are
aware of the potential impact of algorithmic biases on their ability to
retrieve all relevant information, and how much relevant information may
actually be missed due to Web search personalisation. We find that the majority
of participants in our experimental study are neither aware that there is a
potential problem nor do they have a strategy to mitigate the risk of missing
relevant information when performing online searches. Most significantly, we
provide empirical evidence that up to 20% of relevant information may be missed
due to Web search personalisation. This work has significant implications for
Web research by public sector professionals, who should be provided with
training about the potential algorithmic biases that may affect their judgments
and decision making, as well as clear guidelines how to minimise the risk of

Dynamics-based centrality for general directed networks
Determining the relative importance of nodes in directed networks is
important in, for example, ranking websites, publications, and sports teams,
and for understanding signal flows in systems biology. A prevailing centrality
measure in this respect is the PageRank. In this work, we focus on another
class of centrality derived from the Laplacian of the network. We extend the
Laplacian-based centrality, which has mainly been applied to strongly connected
networks, to the case of general directed networks such that we can
quantitatively compare arbitrary nodes. Toward this end, we adopt the idea used
in the PageRank to introduce global connectivity between all the pairs of nodes
with a certain strength. Numerical simulations are carried out on some
networks. We also offer interpretations of the Laplacian-based centrality for
general directed networks in terms of various dynamical and structural
properties of networks. Importantly, the Laplacian-based centrality defined as
the stationary density of the continuous-time random walk with random jumps is
shown to be equivalent to the absorption probability of the random walk with
sinks at each node but without random jumps. Similarly, the proposed centrality
represents the importance of nodes in dynamics on the original network supplied
with sinks but not with random jumps.Comment: 7 figure
Google matrix of business process management
Development of efficient business process models and determination of their
characteristic properties are subject of intense interdisciplinary research.
Here, we consider a business process model as a directed graph. Its nodes
correspond to the units identified by the modeler and the link direction
indicates the causal dependencies between units. It is of primary interest to
obtain the stationary flow on such a directed graph, which corresponds to the
steady-state of a firm during the business process. Following the ideas
developed recently for the World Wide Web, we construct the Google matrix for
our business process model and analyze its spectral properties. The importance
of nodes is characterized by Page-Rank and recently proposed CheiRank and
2DRank, respectively. The results show that this two-dimensional ranking gives
a significant information about the influence and communication properties of
business model units. We argue that the Google matrix method, described here,
provides a new efficient tool helping companies to make their decisions on how
to evolve in the exceedingly dynamic global market.Comment: submitted to European Journal of Physics
Classical and quantum ergodicity on orbifolds
We extend to orbifolds classical results on quantum ergodicity due to
Shnirelman, Colin de Verdi\`ere and Zelditch, proving that, for any positive,
first-order self-adjoint elliptic pseudodifferential operator P on a compact
orbifold X with positive principal symbol p, ergodicity of the Hamiltonian flow
of p implies quantum ergodicity for the operator P. We also prove ergodicity of
the geodesic flow on a compact Riemannian orbifold of negative sectional

The Convergence of Digital-Libraries and the Peer-Review Process
Pre-print repositories have seen a significant increase in use over the past
fifteen years across multiple research domains. Researchers are beginning to
develop applications capable of using these repositories to assist the
scientific community above and beyond the pure dissemination of information.
The contribution set forth by this paper emphasizes a deconstructed publication
model in which the peer-review process is mediated by an OAI-PMH peer-review
service. This peer-review service uses a social-network algorithm to determine
potential reviewers for a submitted manuscript and for weighting the relative
influence of each participating reviewer's evaluations. This paper also
suggests a set of peer-review specific metadata tags that can accompany a
pre-print's existing metadata record. The combinations of these contributions
provide a unique repository-centric peer-review model that fits within the
