Standardized Oral Care Regimen in Medical Surgical Hospitalized Patients
-Purpose/goal statement: In medical surgical hospitalized patients, how does nursing staff education on the importance of a standardized oral care regimen in the prevention of non-ventilator hospital acquired pneumonia, compared to no oral care education, affect the documentation rates of oral care in a 23-day period? -Relevance to conference themes and objectives: Oral care is considered a routine part of daily care for patients in acute care settings. However, education and implementation of standardized oral care regimens can be lacking (Lounsbury & Munro, 2020). Additionally, documentation of oral care is often overlooked and omitted in the acute care environment (Meehan & McKenna, 2020). This is an issue for hospitalized adults and may lead to poor outcomes, such as non-ventilator hospital acquired pneumonia (Giuliano et al., 2021). Nursing staff should be educated about the importance of oral care and have standardized oral care regimens
The Role of Knowledge Sharing in Supply Chain Integration Processes
Current issues in supply chain management focus increasingly on the interdependence between value forming and supply chain integration. This interdependence is interesting, especially in an environment with variable and heterogeneous demand, posing challenges and opportunities for the management of supply chain integration. The purpose of our conceptual paper is to introduce the drivers and the benefits of the supply chain integration process and to introduce the role of knowledge sharing in this context. In the pursuit of this goal, the concepts of supply chain integration and value forming are defined as the research context. The preliminary results propose that the essential integration elements can be identified and a more distinct supply chain integration process as well as knowledge sharing in this process can be defined
Vapor phase uptake of volatile organic contaminants by hybrid poplar trees
Phytoremediation, the use of plants to immobilize, degrade or remove contaminants from the environment, shows great promise as a remediation technique for many contaminated sites. Phytovolatilization in particular is of great interest for sites contaminated with chlorinated solvents and other volatile organic compounds (VOCs), many of which are recalcitrant to biodegradation. Hybrid poplar trees have been shown to uptake, translocate and volatilize numerous aqueous-phase VOCs, however vapor phase uptake of such compounds has only recently been observed and for only one contaminant, tetrachloroethylene (PCE). One semi-volatile and five volatile compounds were dosed to poplar trees in aqueous and vapor phase and studied for uptake in a laboratory setting --Abstract, page iii

Tailoring Membrane Surface Charges: A Novel Study on Electrostatic Interactions during Membrane Fouling
In this work we aim to show that the overall surface potential is a key factor to understand and predict anti-fouling characteristics of a polymer membrane. Therefore, polyvinylidene fluoride membranes were modified by electron beam-induced grafting reactions forming neutral, acidic, alkaline or zwitterionic structures on the membrane surface. The differently charged membranes were investigated regarding their surface properties using diverse analytical methods: zeta potential, static and dynamic water contact angle, scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS). Porosimetry measurements proved that there is no pore blocking due to the modifications. Monodisperse suspensions of differently charged polystyrene beads were synthesized by a radical emulsion polymerization reaction and were used as a model fouling reagent, preventing comparability problems known from current literature. To simulate membrane fouling, different bead suspensions were filtered through the membranes. The fouling characteristics were investigated regarding permeation flux decline and concentration of model fouling reagent in filtrate as well as by SEM. By considering electrostatic interactions equal to hydrophobic interactions we developed a novel fouling test system, which enables the prediction of a membrane’s fouling tendency. Electrostatic forces are dominating, especially when charged fouling reagents are present, and can help to explain fouling characteristics that cannot be explained considering the surface wettability
On Correlations Between Local Microstructure and The Appearance of Fibre Breaks in Unidirectional Composite Materials
A synchrotron computed tomography dataset for validation of longitudinal tensile failure models based on fibre break and cluster development
We performed in-situ tensile tests on two carbon fibre/epoxy composites with continuous scanning using synchrotron computed tomography (CT). Both composites were cross-ply laminates, and two specimens were tested for each compos- ite. The voxel size was sufficiently small to recognize individ- ual fibres and fibre breaks. For each test, 16-19 volumes were reconstructed, cropped down to the 0° plies and analysed to track fibre break and cluster development. This dataset provides the last CT volume before failure for each of the four specimens as well as the individual fibre break locations in all reconstructed volumes. These data are then plotted against predictions from six state-of-the-art strength models. The target is that these data become a benchmark for the development of new models, inspiring researchers tPostprint (published version

Biocatalytic Degradation Efficiency of Postconsumer Polyethylene Terephthalate Packaging Determined by Their Polymer Microstructures
Polyethylene terephthalate (PET) is the most important mass-produced thermoplastic polyester used as a packaging material. Recently, thermophilic polyester hydrolases such as TfCut2 from Thermobifida fusca have emerged as promising biocatalysts for an eco-friendly PET recycling process. In this study, postconsumer PET food packaging containers are treated with TfCut2 and show weight losses of more than 50% after 96 h of incubation at 70 °C. Differential scanning calorimetry analysis indicates that the high linear degradation rates observed in the first 72 h of incubation is due to the high hydrolysis susceptibility of the mobile amorphous fraction (MAF) of PET. The physical aging process of PET occurring at 70 °C is shown to gradually convert MAF to polymer microstructures with limited accessibility to enzymatic hydrolysis. Analysis of the chain-length distribution of degraded PET by nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy reveals that MAF is rapidly hydrolyzed via a combinatorial exo- and endo-type degradation mechanism whereas the remaining PET microstructures are slowly degraded only by endo-type chain scission causing no detectable weight loss. Hence, efficient thermostable biocatalysts are required to overcome the competitive physical aging process for the complete degradation of postconsumer PET materials close to the glass transition temperature of PET
