Measurement of the analyzing power of proton-carbon elastic scattering in the CNI region at RHIC
The single transverse spin asymmetry, A_N, of the p-carbon elastic scattering
process in the Coulomb Nuclear Interference (CNI) region was measured using an
ultra thin carbon target and polarized proton beam in the Relativistic Heavy
Ion Collider (RHIC) at Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL). In 2004, data were
collected to calibrate the p-carbon process at two RHIC energies (24 GeV, 100
GeV). A_N was obtained as a function of momentum transfer -t. The results were
fit with theoretical models which allow us to assess the contribution from a

Production mechanisms and single-spin asymmetry for kaons in high energy hadron-hadron collisions
Direct consequences on kaon production of the picture proposed in a recent
Letter and subsequent publications are discussed. Further evidence supporting
the proposed picture is obtained. Comparison with the data for the inclusive
cross sections in unpolarized reactions is made. Quantitative results for the

Measurement of the analyzing power in pp elastic scattering in the peak CNI region at RHIC
We report the first measurements of the A_N absolute value and shape in the
-t range from 0.0015 to 0.010GeV/c^2 with a precision better than 0.005 for
each A_N data point using a polarized atomic hydrogen gas jet target and the

Lambda polarization and single-spin left-right asymmetry in diffractive hadron-hadron collisions
We discuss Lambda polarization and single-spin left-right asymmetry in
diffractive hadron-hadron scattering at high energies. We show that the
physical picture proposed in a recent Letter is consistent with the
experimental observation that polarization in the diffractive
process, , is much higher than that in the inclusive
reaction, . We make predictions for the left-right asymmetry,
A_N, and for the spin transfer, , in the single-spin process
and suggest further experimental tests of the

Experimental data on the single spin asymmetry and their interpretations by the chromo-magnetic string model
An attempt is made to interpret the various existing experimental data on the
single spin asymmetries in inclusive pion production by the polarized proton
and antiproton beams. As the basis of analysis the chromo-magnetic string model
is used. A whole measured kinematic region is covered. The successes and fails
of such approach are outlined. The possible improvements of model are

RHIC polarimetry
Polarimeters were developed to measure the polarization of the proton beam at RHIC in relative scale through the asymmetry measurement of the elastic proton-carbon scattering. Recoil carbon ions with kinetic energy of 400 †E †900 keV were detected by silicon strip detectors installed at 90° with respect to the beam. The absolute polarization is given by normalizing against another polarimeter implemented at RHIC, namely a polarized hydrogen gas jet polarimeter. In this report, the details of polarization measurements, data analysis, and systematic uncertainties are discussed based on the data taken during â«s = 200 GeV operation of Run 05 at RHIC
Single transverse-spin asymmetry in Drell-Yan lepton angular distribution
We calculate a single transverse-spin asymmetry for the Drell-Yan
lepton-pair's angular distribution in perturbative QCD. At leading order in the
strong coupling constant, the asymmetry is expressed in terms of a twist-3
quark-gluon correlation function T_F^{(V)}(x_1,x_2). In our calculation, the
same result was obtained in both light-cone and covariant gauge in QCD, while
keeping explicit electromagnetic current conservation for the virtual photon
that decays into the lepton pair. We also present a numerical estimate of the

Research Proposal for an Experiment to Search for the Decay {\mu} -> eee
We propose an experiment (Mu3e) to search for the lepton flavour violating
decay mu+ -> e+e-e+. We aim for an ultimate sensitivity of one in 10^16
mu-decays, four orders of magnitude better than previous searches. This
sensitivity is made possible by exploiting modern silicon pixel detectors
providing high spatial resolution and hodoscopes using scintillating fibres and

Absolute Measurement of the Polarization of High Energy Proton Beams at RHIC
The spin physics program at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider (RHIC) requires knowledge of the beam polarization to better than 5%. Such a goal is made the more difficult by the lack of knowledge of the analyzing power of high energy nuclear physics processes. To overcome this, a polarized hydrogen jet target was constructed and installed at one intersection region in RHIC where it intersects both beams and utilizes the precise knowledge of the jet atomic hydrogen beam polarization to measure the analyzing power in proton-proton elastic scattering in the Nuclear Coulomb Interference (CNI) region at the prescribed RHIC proton beam energy. The reverse reaction is used to assess the absolute beam polarization. Simultaneous measurements taken with fast high statistics polarimeters that measure the p-Carbon elastic scattering process also in the CNI region use the jet results to calibrate the latter
