Ausgehend von einer Reflexion der Transkriptionsarbeit an einem Video zu einem gewaltsoziologischen Projekt wird unter der Fragestellung, welche Anforderungen ein Notationssystem erfüllen sollte, um spontanauthentische Liveaufnahmen zu analysieren, ein methodischer Vorschlag gemacht: SPLINOS

A Circulatory Loop: The Reciprocal Relationship of Organizations, Digitalization, and Gender

In the digitalization debate, gender biases in digital technologies play a significant role because of their potential for social exclusion and inequality. It is therefore remarkable that organizations as drivers of digitalization and as places for social integration have been widely overlooked so far. Simultaneously, gender biases and digitalization have structurally immanent connections to organizations. Therefore, a look at the reciprocal relationship between organizations, digitalization, and gender is needed. The article provides answers to the question of whether and how organizations (re)produce, reinforce, or diminish gender‐specific inequalities during their digital transformations. On the one hand, gender inequalities emerge when organizations use post‐bureaucratic concepts through digitalization. On the other hand, gender inequalities are reproduced when organizations either program or implement digital technologies and fail to establish control structures that prevent gender biases. This article shows that digitalization can act as a catalyst for inequality‐producing mechanisms, but also has the potential to mitigate inequalities. We argue that organizations must be considered when discussing the potential of exclusion through digitalization

Arbeit und Gewalt

Der Zusammenhang von Gewalt und Arbeit findet in der sozialwissenschaftlichen Forschung keine große Aufmerksamkeit, sondern ist in vielen Subdisziplinen nur ein Nischenthema. Gleichzeitig gibt es im gesellschaftlichen Alltag zahlreiche Vorgänge, die gleichzeitig arbeits- und gewaltgeprägt sind. Ein stärkerer Fokus darauf, in welcher systematischen Beziehung Arbeit und Gewalt zueinanderstehen, scheint daher vielversprechend, um die bisher vorliegenden Erkenntnisse zu bündeln und füreinander fruchtbar zu machen. Der Beitrag vertritt dazu die These, dass sich in der jüngeren Sozialforschung zumindest drei Muster der Verknüpfung von Arbeit und Gewalt abzeichnen: (1) Gewalt als Arbeit, (2) Gewalt bei der Arbeit und (3) Gewalt durch Arbeit

Discourse Strategies of Implementing Algorithmic Decision Support Systems: The Case of the Austrian Employment Service

In the process of digitalisation, social administrations are increasingly turning to algorithmic decision support systems. In this particularly controversial field of application of algorithms, we observe efforts to gain public legitimacy for using such systems. In particular, we examine the implementation of the "AMS algorithm" in the Austrian Public Employment Service (AMS). Using the Sociology of Knowledge Approach to Discourse (SKAD), we identify three strategies that shape the development of the AMS discourse: (1) the strategy of placing the algorithm in the discursive field of help and efficiency, (2) the strategy of referential agility of the algorithm, and (3) the strategy of the algorithm's incorporation into the organisation. Our discourse analytic approach shows that the social situatedness of digital technologies contradicts the no- tion of technology as a neutral tool. Second, we find that the AMS occupies an important and supporting position during the discourse. The article argues that organisations undergoing digital transformation are involved in discourses on the use of digital technologies and are central to them as such; they shape discourses and constitute phenomena
