Long-time asymptotics for the Degasperis-Procesi equation on the half-line

We analyze the long-time asymptotics for the Degasperis--Procesi equation on the half-line. By applying nonlinear steepest descent techniques to an associated 3×33 \times 3-matrix valued Riemann--Hilbert problem, we find an explicit formula for the leading order asymptotics of the solution in the similarity region in terms of the initial and boundary values.Comment: 61 pages, 11 figure

Legendrian Distributions with Applications to Poincar\'e Series

Let XX be a compact Kahler manifold and L→XL\to X a quantizing holomorphic Hermitian line bundle. To immersed Lagrangian submanifolds Λ\Lambda of XX satisfying a Bohr-Sommerfeld condition we associate sequences {∣Λ,k⟩}k=1∞\{ |\Lambda, k\rangle \}_{k=1}^\infty, where ∀k\forall k ∣Λ,k⟩|\Lambda, k\rangle is a holomorphic section of L⊗kL^{\otimes k}. The terms in each sequence concentrate on Λ\Lambda, and a sequence itself has a symbol which is a half-form, σ\sigma, on Λ\Lambda. We prove estimates, as k→∞k\to\infty, of the norm squares ⟨Λ,k∣Λ,k⟩\langle \Lambda, k|\Lambda, k\rangle in terms of ∫Λσσ‾\int_\Lambda \sigma\overline{\sigma}. More generally, we show that if Λ1\Lambda_1 and Λ2\Lambda_2 are two Bohr-Sommerfeld Lagrangian submanifolds intersecting cleanly, the inner products ⟨Λ1,k∣Λ2,k⟩\langle\Lambda_1, k|\Lambda_2, k\rangle have an asymptotic expansion as k→∞k\to\infty, the leading coefficient being an integral over the intersection Λ1∩Λ2\Lambda_1\cap\Lambda_2. Our construction is a quantization scheme of Bohr-Sommerfeld Lagrangian submanifolds of XX. We prove that the Poincar\'e series on hyperbolic surfaces are a particular case, and therefore obtain estimates of their norms and inner products.Comment: 41 pages, LaTe

Local trace formulae and scaling asymptotics in Toeplitz quantization, II

In the spectral theory of positive elliptic operators, an important role is played by certain smoothing kernels, related to the Fourier transform of the trace of a wave operator, which may be heuristically interpreted as smoothed spectral projectors asymptotically drifting to the right of the spectrum. In the setting of Toeplitz quantization, we consider analogues of these, where the wave operator is replaced by the Hardy space compression of a linearized Hamiltonian flow, possibly composed with a family of zeroth order Toeplitz operators. We study the local asymptotics of these smoothing kernels, and specifically how they concentrate on the fixed loci of the linearized dynamics.Comment: Typos corrected. Slight expository change

The DAG1 transcription factor negatively regulates the seed-to-seedling transition in Arabidopsis acting on ABA and GA levels

    Get PDF
BACKGROUND: In seeds, the transition from dormancy to germination is regulated by abscisic acid (ABA) and gibberellins (GAs), and involves chromatin remodelling. Particularly, the repressive mark H3K27 trimethylation (H3K27me3) has been shown to target many master regulators of this transition. DAG1 (DOF AFFECTING GERMINATION1), is a negative regulator of seed germination in Arabidopsis, and directly represses the GA biosynthetic gene GA3ox1 (gibberellin 3-β-dioxygenase 1). We set to investigate the role of DAG1 in seed dormancy and maturation with respect to epigenetic and hormonal control. RESULTS: We show that DAG1 expression is controlled at the epigenetic level through the H3K27me3 mark during the seed-to-seedling transition, and that DAG1 directly represses also the ABA catabolic gene CYP707A2; consistently, the ABA level is lower while the GA level is higher in dag1 mutant seeds. Furthermore, both DAG1 expression and protein stability are controlled by GAs. CONCLUSIONS: Our results point to DAG1 as a key player in the control of the developmental switch between seed dormancy and germination

Quantum ergodicity of C* dynamical systems

This paper contains a very simple and general proof that eigenfunctions of quantizations of classically ergodic systems become uniformly distributed in phase space. This ergodicity property of eigenfunctions f is shown to follow from a convexity inequality for the invariant states (Af,f). This proof of ergodicity of eigenfunctions simplifies previous proofs (due to A.I. Shnirelman, Colin de Verdiere and the author) and extends the result to the much more general framework of C* dynamical systems.Comment: Only very minor differences with the published versio

Toeplitz Quantization of K\"ahler Manifolds and gl(N)gl(N) N→∞N\to\infty

For general compact K\"ahler manifolds it is shown that both Toeplitz quantization and geometric quantization lead to a well-defined (by operator norm estimates) classical limit. This generalizes earlier results of the authors and Klimek and Lesniewski obtained for the torus and higher genus Riemann surfaces, respectively. We thereby arrive at an approximation of the Poisson algebra by a sequence of finite-dimensional matrix algebras gl(N)gl(N), N→∞N\to\infty.Comment: 17 pages, AmsTeX 2.1, Sept. 93 (rev: only typos are corrected

The density of stationary points in a high-dimensional random energy landscape and the onset of glassy behaviour

We calculate the density of stationary points and minima of a N≫1N\gg 1 dimensional Gaussian energy landscape. We use it to show that the point of zero-temperature replica symmetry breaking in the equilibrium statistical mechanics of a particle placed in such a landscape in a spherical box of size L=RNL=R\sqrt{N} corresponds to the onset of exponential in NN growth of the cumulative number of stationary points, but not necessarily the minima. For finite temperatures we construct a simple variational upper bound on the true free energy of the R=∞R=\infty version of the problem and show that this approximation is able to recover the position of the whole de-Almeida-Thouless line.Comment: a revised and shortened version with a few typos corrected and references added. Higher-Order Corrections to Instantons

The energy levels of the double-well potential receive, beyond perturbation theory, contributions which are non-analytic in the coupling strength; these are related to instanton effects. For example, the separation between the energies of odd- and even-parity states is given at leading order by the one-instanton contribution. However to determine the energies more accurately multi-instanton configurations have also to be taken into account. We investigate here the two-instanton contributions. First we calculate analytically higher-order corrections to multi-instanton effects. We then verify that the difference betweeen numerically determined energy eigenvalues, and the generalized Borel sum of the perturbation series can be described to very high accuracy by two-instanton contributions. We also calculate higher-order corrections to the leading factorial growth of the perturbative coefficients and show that these are consistent with analytic results for the two-instanton effect and with exact data for the first 200 perturbative coefficients.Comment: 7 pages, LaTe

Mean field and corrections for the Euclidean Minimum Matching problem

Consider the length LMMEL_{MM}^E of the minimum matching of N points in d-dimensional Euclidean space. Using numerical simulations and the finite size scaling law =βMME(d)N1−1/d(1+A/N+...) = \beta_{MM}^E(d) N^{1-1/d}(1+A/N+... ), we obtain precise estimates of βMME(d)\beta_{MM}^E(d) for 2≤d≤102 \le d \le 10. We then consider the approximation where distance correlations are neglected. This model is solvable and gives at d≥2d \ge 2 an excellent ``random link'' approximation to βMME(d)\beta_{MM}^E(d). Incorporation of three-link correlations further improves the accuracy, leading to a relative error of 0.4% at d=2 and 3. Finally, the large d behavior of this expansion in link correlations is discussed.Comment: source and one figure. Submitted to PR
