    Irreducible actions and compressible modules

Any finite set of linear operators on an algebra AA yields an operator algebra BB and a module structure on A, whose endomorphism ring is isomorphic to a subring ABA^B of certain invariant elements of AA. We show that if AA is a critically compressible left BB-module, then the dimension of its self-injective hull AA over the ring of fractions of ABA^B is bounded by the uniform dimension of AA and the number of linear operators generating BB. This extends a known result on irreducible Hopf actions and applies in particular to weak Hopf action. Furthermore we prove necessary and sufficient conditions for an algebra A to be critically compressible in the case of group actions, group gradings and Lie actions

J-PLUS: Identification of low-metallicity stars with artificial neural networks using SPHINX

We present a new methodology for the estimation of stellar atmospheric parameters from narrow- and intermediate-band photometry of the Javalambre Photometric Local Universe Survey (J-PLUS), and propose a method for target pre-selection of low-metallicity stars for follow-up spectroscopic studies. Photometric metallicity estimates for stars in the globular cluster M15 are determined using this method. By development of a neural-network-based photometry pipeline, we aim to produce estimates of effective temperature, TeffT_{\rm eff}, and metallicity, [Fe/H], for a large subset of stars in the J-PLUS footprint. The Stellar Photometric Index Network Explorer, SPHINX, is developed to produce estimates of TeffT_{\rm eff} and [Fe/H], after training on a combination of J-PLUS photometric inputs and synthetic magnitudes computed for medium-resolution (R ~ 2000) spectra of the Sloan Digital Sky Survey. This methodology is applied to J-PLUS photometry of the globular cluster M15. Effective temperature estimates made with J-PLUS Early Data Release photometry exhibit low scatter, \sigma(TeffT_{\rm eff}) = 91 K, over the temperature range 4500 < TeffT_{\rm eff} (K) < 8500. For stars from the J-PLUS First Data Release with 4500 < TeffT_{\rm eff} (K) < 6200, 85 ±\pm 3% of stars known to have [Fe/H] <-2.0 are recovered by SPHINX. A mean metallicity of [Fe/H]=-2.32 ±\pm 0.01, with a residual spread of 0.3 dex, is determined for M15 using J-PLUS photometry of 664 likely cluster members. We confirm the performance of SPHINX within the ranges specified, and verify its utility as a stand-alone tool for photometric estimation of effective temperature and metallicity, and for pre-selection of metal-poor spectroscopic targets.Comment: 18 pages, 12 figure

Measurements and analysis of the upper critical field Hc2H_{c2} on an underdoped and overdoped La2xSrxCuO4La_{2-x}Sr_xCuO_4 compounds

The upper critical field Hc2H_{c2} is one of the many non conventional properties of high-TcT_c cuprates. It is possible that the Hc2(T)H_{c2}(T) anomalies are due to the presence of inhomogeneities in the local charge carrier density ρ\rho of the CuO2CuO_2 planes. In order to study this point, we have prepared good quality samples of polycrystalline La2xSrxCuO4La_{2-x}Sr_xCuO_{4} using the wet-chemical method, which has demonstrated to produce samples with a better cation distribution. In particular, we have studied the temperature dependence of the second critical field, Hc2(T)H_{c2}(T), through the magnetization measurements on two samples with opposite average carrier concentration (ρm=x\rho_m=x) and nearly the same critical temperature, namely ρm=0.08\rho_m = 0.08 (underdoped) and ρm=0.25\rho_m = 0.25 (overdoped). The results close to TcT_c do not follow the usual Ginzburg-Landau theory and are interpreted by a theory which takes into account the influence of the inhomogeneities.Comment: Published versio
