Occurrence of a new mammalian tapeworm Moniezia ovisae

    Get PDF
The present communication deals with the occurrence of a new mammalian tapeworm Moniezia (B) ovisae n.sp. from Ovis bharal (L) in Aurangabad (M.S.). It comes closer to all the known species of the genus Moniezia but differs from all the known species of the genus in having the scolex broad anteriorly and narrow towards neck, mature proglottids two times broader than long, testes medium in size, rounded scattered posterior to segment, 155-165 in numbers, vitelline gland post ovarian, cirrus pouch oval, Ovary is compact, bilobed

Curing singularities: From the big bang to black holes

    Get PDF
Singular spacetimes are a natural prediction of Einstein's theory. Most memorable are the singular centers of black holes and the big bang. However, dilatonic extensions of Einstein's theory can support nonsingular spacetimes. The cosmological singularities can be avoided by dilaton driven inflation. Furthermore, a nonsingular black hole can be constructed in two dimensions.Comment: To appear as a brief report in Phys. Rev.

Biochemical studies of gastrointestinal cestode parasites in Capra hircus (L.) and Ovis bharal (L.) from Marathwada region

    Get PDF
Parasitic biochemistry has great practical importances through chemotherapy and vaccine production and in understanding of the complex association involved in the host parasite relationship However; information in parasite biochemistry is patchy. It is a field growing in parallel with the new surge of interest in tropical diseases. Where as previously parasitologists have been required to adopt biochemical methodology in order to stay abreast of development. Gastrointestinal cestodes are the most pathogenic parasites in Capra hircus and Ovis bharal in tropic and subtropic areas. Present investigation deals with the biochemistry (Protein, glycogen and lipid) of Cestode parasites in Capra hircus and Ovis bharal

Neutrino oscillations in a stochastic model for space-time foam

We study decoherence models for flavour oscillations in four-dimensional stochastically fluctuating space times and discuss briefly the sensitivity of current neutrino experiments to such models. We pay emphasis on demonstrating the model dependence of the associated decoherence-induced damping coefficients in front of the oscillatory terms in the respective transition probabilities between flavours. Within the context of specific models of foam, involving point-like D-branes and leading to decoherence-induced damping which is inversely proportional to the neutrino energies, we also argue that future limits on the relevant decoherence parameters coming from TeV astrophysical neutrinos, to be observed in ICE-CUBE, are not far from theoretically expected values with Planck mass suppression. Ultra high energy neutrinos from Gamma Ray Bursts at cosmological distances can also exhibit in principle sensitivity to such effects.Comment: 12 pages RevTex4, no figure

The present paper deals with the seasonal variation of Trichuris sp. of sheep and goats. The high prevalence of Trichuris sp. are recorded in the month of December 2008 and November 2009 i.e. 82.8% and 85.0% respectively followed by in the month of March 2009 and February 2010 i.e. 60% and 70% respectively where as low prevalence are recorded in the month of August 2008 and July 2009 i.e. 50% and 31.5% respectively.Â

Histopathological study of tapeworm infection in Ovis bharal (L.) from Solapur district (M.S) India

    Get PDF
Histopathological study of cestode parasite has been studied to find the pathological changes and extent of damage of the intestinal layers of Ovis bharal (L.). The worm Stilesia shindei is having scolex with four suckers, which is large, rounded, which are used for attachment of worm to the intestine of host Ovis bharal (L). The heavy infection of Stilesia shindei damage the intestinal layers i.e. mucosa, submucosa, and lamina propria, submucosa with profuse infiltration of eosinophils, lymphocytes and the plasma cells. When host-parasites equilibrium is disturbed, serious disease in host is the consequence, resulting in depletion or weakening of host

Seasonal variation of intestinal Tapeworms in Gallus gallus domesticus at Ahmednagar region

The present paper deals with the seasonal variation of tapeworms in Gallus gallus domesticus at Ahmednagar region, high prevalence of Raillietina parasite are occurred in winter season followed by summer season and low in rainy season. This type of results indicates that environment factors and feeding habitats are influencing that seasonality of parasitic infection either directly or indirectly

A new cestode parasite from the genus cotugnia from Ahmednagar district M.S. India.

The genus Cotugnia was erected by Diamare (1893) [1] with type species C. diagonopora, collected from domestic fowl.  Eight specimens of the parasites were collected from the intestine of Gallus gallus domesticus. The present cestode have scolex quadrangular, absence of rostellar hooks, testes 63 in number, ovary oval, ootype small, rounded and postovarian. It was compared and differs from various five species and was considered as new species Cotugnia mohekarii.Â

Effect of Psoralea corylifolia on dexamethasone-induced insulin resistance in mice

    Get PDF
AbstractThe whole plant of Psoralea corylifolia (PC) is traditionally used in the treatment of diabetes. Mice were treated with prestandardised dose of dexamethasone for 22days and effect of PC at the doses of 100, 200 and 300mg/kg, p.o. on plasma blood glucose level, serum triglyceride level, glucose uptake in skeletal muscle, levels of hepatic antioxidant enzymes (GSH, SOD, catalase and LPO), and body weight were observed. PC showed significant decrease in plasma glucose and serum triglyceride levels (p<0.01) at the dose of 100 and 200mg/kg, p.o. and also stimulated glucose uptake in skeletal muscle. The levels of antioxidant enzymes GSH, SOD, and catalase were significantly increased (p<0.01) and there was significant decrease (p<0.01) in level of LPO.Hence it can be concluded that Psoralea carylifolia may prove to be effective in the treatment of Type-II Diabetes mellitus owing to its ability to decrease insulin resistance
