Non-Perturbative Renormalization for Staggered Fermions (Self-energy Analysis)
We present preliminary results of data analysis for the non-perturbative
renormalization (NPR) on the self-energy of the quark propagators calculated
using HYP improved staggered fermions on the MILC asqtad lattices. We use the
momentum source to generate the quark propagators. In principle, using the
vector projection operator of and the
scalar projection operator , we should be able to
obtain the wave function renormalization factor and the mass
renormalization factor . Using the MILC coarse lattice, we
obtain a preliminary but reasonable estimate of and from
the data analysis on the self-energy.Comment: 7 pages, 4 figures, Contribution to proceedings of 30th International

The Acquisition of the Easy-to-V Structure by Korean Adult Learners of English: What Influences Their Interpretive Behavior?
Much research in second language acquisition has been carried out investigating a learner's linguistic system while focusing on only a single linguistic level without reference to the function of other linguistic elements. Considering how one acquires a language, we cannot fail to include semantics and pragmatics as well as syntax since all three simultaneously influence the learner's competence and performance in the new language. Gass (1989) claims that a composite picture of the nature of second language acquisition must include studies investigating the simultaneous acquisition of grammatical components. In this regard, the present study is intended to scrutinize the sentence-processing strategies of Korean adult learners of English emphasizing the ways in which they interpret the easy-to-V structure sentences. In order to broaden our understanding of the acquisition of the complex syntactical structure which appears to be a likely candidate for late acquisition, this study takes into consideration a semantic approach as well as a syntactic approach to language acquisition takirrg the competition model (Bates & MacWhinney, 1982; MacWhinney, 1987a; MacWhirrney & Bates, 1989) as its basis
Non-perturbative Renormalization of Bilinear Operators with Improved Staggered Quarks
We present renormalization factors for the bilinear operators obtained using
the non-perturbative renormalization method (NPR) in the RI-MOM scheme with
improved staggered fermions on the MILC asqtad lattices (). We use
the MILC coarse ensembles with geometry and . We obtain the wave function renormalization factor from the
conserved vector current and the mass renormalization factor from the
scalar bilinear operator. We also present preliminary results of
renormalization factors for other bilinear operators.Comment: 7 pages, 4 figures, Lattice 2013 Proceedin
Interdisciplinary research into architecture and music: An evaluation of acoustic performance of a selection of spaces and of materials
This research examines the acoustic comforts of different occupational building types and investigates the combination of building elements, especially focusing on building layout and materials that are considered significant sources of unwanted sound. A major part of the thesis relies on a series of sound pressure (decibel) measurements in three distinctive occupational types: residential, educational, and theater buildings on the Iowa State University campus, and evaluates them with the current standard of allowable sound levels. In addition, this thesis analyzes the existing spatial and material strategies of the three types. The selected materials and their acoustic qualities will be investigated and compared with USG Building Acoustic Assemblies. The results reveal poor acoustic qualities and unconcerned acoustic designs of the investigated buildings. Most of the surveyed designs do not meet either the American National Standards (ANSI) and American Society for Testing and Materials (ASTM)
