Energy-weighted density matrix embedding of open correlated chemical fragments
We present a multi-scale approach to efficiently embed an ab initio
correlated chemical fragment described by its energy-weighted density matrices,
and entangled with a wider mean-field many-electron system. This approach,
first presented in Phys. Rev. B, 98, 235132 (2018), is here extended to account
for realistic long-range interactions and broken symmetry states. The scheme
allows for a systematically improvable description in the range of correlated
fluctuations out of the fragment into the system, via a self-consistent
optimization of a coupled auxiliary mean-field system. It is discussed that the
method has rigorous limits equivalent to existing quantum embedding approaches
of both dynamical mean-field theory, as well as density matrix embedding
theory, to which this method is compared, and the importance of these
correlated fluctuations is demonstrated. We derive a self-consistent local
energy functional within the scheme, and demonstrate the approach for Hydrogen
rings, where quantitative accuracy is achieved despite only a single atom being

Horizon energy and angular momentum from a Hamiltonian perspective
Classical black holes and event horizons are highly non-local objects,
defined in terms of the causal past of future null infinity. Alternative,
(quasi)local definitions are often used in mathematical, quantum, and numerical
relativity. These include apparent, trapping, isolated, and dynamical horizons,
all of which are closely associated to two-surfaces of zero outward null
expansion. In this paper we show that three-surfaces which can be foliated with
such two-surfaces are suitable boundaries in both a quasilocal action and a
phase space formulation of general relativity. The resulting formalism provides
expressions for the quasilocal energy and angular momentum associated with the
horizon. The values of the energy and angular momentum are in agreement with

Organizational Chart Inference
Nowadays, to facilitate the communication and cooperation among employees, a
new family of online social networks has been adopted in many companies, which
are called the "enterprise social networks" (ESNs). ESNs can provide employees
with various professional services to help them deal with daily work issues.
Meanwhile, employees in companies are usually organized into different
hierarchies according to the relative ranks of their positions. The company
internal management structure can be outlined with the organizational chart
visually, which is normally confidential to the public out of the privacy and
security concerns. In this paper, we want to study the IOC (Inference of
Organizational Chart) problem to identify company internal organizational chart
based on the heterogeneous online ESN launched in it. IOC is very challenging
to address as, to guarantee smooth operations, the internal organizational
charts of companies need to meet certain structural requirements (about its
depth and width). To solve the IOC problem, a novel unsupervised method Create
(ChArT REcovEr) is proposed in this paper, which consists of 3 steps: (1)
social stratification of ESN users into different social classes, (2)
supervision link inference from managers to subordinates, and (3) consecutive
social classes matching to prune the redundant supervision links. Extensive
experiments conducted on real-world online ESN dataset demonstrate that Create

The Discovery of XY Sex Chromosomes in a \u3cem\u3eBoa\u3c/em\u3e and \u3cem\u3ePython\u3c/em\u3e
For over 50 years, biologists have accepted that all extant snakes share the same ZW sex chromosomes derived from a common ancestor [1, 2, 3], with different species exhibiting sex chromosomes at varying stages of differentiation. Accordingly, snakes have been a well-studied model for sex chromosome evolution in animals [1, 4]. A review of the literature, however, reveals no compelling support that boas and pythons possess ZW sex chromosomes [2, 5]. Furthermore, phylogenetic patterns of facultative parthenogenesis in snakes and a sex-linked color mutation in the ball python (Python regius) are best explained by boas and pythons possessing an XY sex chromosome system [6, 7]. Here we demonstrate that a boa (Boa imperator) and python (Python bivittatus) indeed possess XY sex chromosomes, based on the discovery of male-specific genetic markers in both species. We use these markers, along with transcriptomic and genomic data, to identify distinct sex chromosomes in boas and pythons, demonstrating that XY systems evolved independently in each lineage. This discovery highlights the dynamic evolution of vertebrate sex chromosomes and further enhances the value of snakes as a model for studying sex chromosome evolution
Cancer mortality and morbidity in employees of the United Kingdom Atomic Energy Authority, 1946-86.
In further analyses of a cohort of 39,718 United Kingdom Atomic Energy Authority employees after 7 more years follow-up, cancer mortality, based on 1,506 deaths in 1946-86, was 20% below the national average. Prostatic cancer mortality showed a statistically significant association with external radiation exposure, largely confined to men who were also monitored for internal contamination by radionuclides other than plutonium. Prostatic cancer mortality was highest in radiation workers at Winfrith. In women monitored for radiation exposure, mortality from cancer of the uterus (including the cervix uteri) was increased relative to other employees, and, showed a statistically significant association with external radiation exposure. While there were some other statistically significant results, as would be expected by chance alone when multiple comparisons are made, there were no other cancer sites with consistently exceptional findings. Point estimates for risk associated with increasing exposure to radiation suggest a decrease of four deaths per 10(4) person-years per Sv for leukaemia and an increase of 20 deaths for all cancers except leukaemia, but confidence intervals indicate that a wide range of values are compatible with the data. Cancer morbidity based on 1,699 registrations in 1971-84 was 12% below the national average. Findings from site-specific analyses largely replicated those of the mortality analyses

Use of Trembling Aspen Bark by Moose in a Browse-Abundant Habitat During Winter
Abstract Moose (Alces alces) are reported to feed on the bark of hardwood trees in winter only when browse plants are in short supply. Our observations during a wildlife research and monitoring project at the Prince George regional airport, Prince George, British Columbia in February 2008, however, revealed that Moose ate the bark of trembling aspen (Populus tremuloides) trees even when other more preferred browse plants, such as red-osier dogwood (Cornus stolonifera), appeared plentiful. Although more extensive surveys should be conducted throughout the winter, our findings suggest that Moose may consume bark in winter as part of a "forage mixing strategy" rather than as an attempt to avoid starvation
Is there really a debris disc around ?
The presence of a debris disc around the Gyr-old solar-type star
was suggested by the infrared
excess detection. Follow-up observations with /PACS revealed
a double-lobed feature, that displayed asymmetries both in brightness and
position. Therefore, the disc was thought to be edge-on and significantly
eccentric. Here we present ALMA/ACA observations in Band 6 and 7 which
unambiguously reveal that these lobes show no common proper motion with
. In these observations, no flux has been detected
around that exceeds the levels. We
conclude that surface brightness upper limits of a debris disc around
are at 1.3 mm, and
at 870 microns. Our results overall demonstrate
the capability of the ALMA/ACA to follow-up observations of
