Additions to the moss flora of Endau Rompin National Park, Johore State, peninsular Malaysia
In a recent survey of the Endau Rompin National Park (ERNP) in Johore State, 81 species and 4 varieties of mosses were documented. This increases the previous count from 62 species and 3 varieties of mosses in ERNP to 111 species and 5 varieties in total. Of these, 30 species are new records for Johore State. Rhaphidostichum bunodicarpum and Trichosteleum stigmosum are two species new to Peninsular Malaysia. Thuidium assimile is a new record for West Malesia. A new combination, Papillidiopsis aquaticum (Dix.) Boon-Chuan Ho & B.C. Tan is proposed. In terms of species composition, the pan-tropical families of Calymperaceae, Fissidentaceae, Leucobryaceae and Sematophyllaceae predominate the moss flora of ERNP
Nonextensive diffusion as nonlinear response
The porous media equation has been proposed as a phenomenological
``non-extensive'' generalization of classical diffusion. Here, we show that a
very similar equation can be derived, in a systematic manner, for a classical
fluid by assuming nonlinear response, i.e. that the diffusive flux depends on
gradients of a power of the concentration. The present equation distinguishes
from the porous media equation in that it describes \emph{% generalized
classical} diffusion, i.e. with scaling, but with a generalized
Einstein relation, and with power-law probability distributions typical of
nonextensive statistical mechanics
Malmquist Indices of Pre and Post-Deregulation Productivity, Efficiency and Technological Change in the Singaporean Banking Sector
By the end of the 1990s, the Singaporean government had recognised the need to open up its banking sector so as to remain competitive in the global economy. The Monetary Authority of Singapore thus began deregulation of the banking sector in 1999 to strengthening the competitiveness of local banks relative to their foreign competition through mergers. This paper employs a nonparametric Malmquist productivity index to provide measure of productivity, technological change and efficiency gains over the period 1995-2005. The findings reveal some total factor productivity growth associated with deregulation and scale efficiency improvement largely from mergers amongst the local banks.Efficiency, productivity; deregulation; Malmquist indices; banking
Lattice gas with ``interaction potential''
We present an extension of a simple automaton model to incorporate non-local
interactions extending over a spatial range in lattice gases. {}From the
viewpoint of Statistical Mechanics, the lattice gas with interaction range may
serve as a prototype for non-ideal gas behavior. {}From the density
fluctuations correlation function, we obtain a quantity which is identified as
a potential of mean force. Equilibrium and transport properties are computed
theoretically and by numerical simulations to establish the validity of the

State detection using coherent Raman repumping and two-color Raman transfers
We demonstrate state detection based on coherent Raman repumping and a
two-color Raman state transfer. The Raman coupling during detection selectively
eliminates unwanted dark states in the fluorescence cycle without compromising
the immunity of the desired dark state to off-resonant scattering. We
demonstrate this technique using where a combination of
Raman coupling and optical pumping leaves the
metastable state optically dark and immune to off-resonant scattering. All
other states are strongly coupled to the upper levels. We achieve a

Statistics of precursors to fingering processes
We present an analysis of the statistical properties of hydrodynamic field
fluctuations which reveal the existence of precursors to fingering processes.
These precursors are found to exhibit power law distributions, and these power
laws are shown to follow from spatial -Gaussian structures which are

Questioning the validity of non-extensive thermodynamics for classical Hamiltonian systems
We examine the non-extensive approach to the statistical mechanics of
Hamiltonian systems with where is the classical kinetic energy. Our
analysis starts from the basics of the formalism by applying the standard
variational method for maximizing the entropy subject to the average energy and
normalization constraints. The analytical results show (i) that the
non-extensive thermodynamics formalism should be called into question to
explain experimental results described by extended exponential distributions
exhibiting long tails, i.e. -exponentials with , and (ii) that in the
thermodynamic limit the theory is only consistent in the range
where the distribution has finite support, thus implying that configurations
with e.g. energy above some limit have zero probability, which is at variance
with the physics of systems in contact with a heat reservoir. We also discuss
the (-dependent) thermodynamic temperature and the generalized specific

Hybrid Amperometric and Potentiometric Sensing Based on a CMOS ISFET Array
Potentiometry and amperometry are some of the most important techniques for electroanalytical applications. Integrating these two techniques on a single chip using CMOS technology paves the way for more analysis and measurement of chemical solutions. In this paper, we describe the integration of electrode transducers (amperometry) on an ion imager based on an ISFET array (potentiometry).
