Trends in electro-optical communication systems
This paper gives an overview of present status and future trends in Electro-optical communication systems and networks. Within the architecture of Electro-optical communication networks, three areas with a different type of research focus can be distinguished: the long haul links, the crossconnects and the access networks to the subscribers
OFDM MMF optical communication transmission system based on mode group division multiplexing
To increase the transmission capacity of multimode fiber (MMF) drastically, Mode Group Division Multiplexing (MGDM), an optical MIMO technique, can be applied. With MGDM, different mode groups, propagating in MMF are used to carry different information. In this paper, Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM), a multi-carrier modulation scheme which not only can make efficient use of the available spectrum but is more resistant to frequency selective fading is proposed in an MGDM system. Simulation results of a 2 x 2 OFDM MGDM system operating at high bitrates will be presented and discussed and an improved performance is shown
A compact design of micro-ring resonator chains for optical phase manipulation
Micro-ring Resonators (MRRs) have been widely studied for their advantages of high quality factor and the convenience to be integrated. The optical phase manipulation based on MRR chains is usable for many important applications. In this paper, we investigate the phase response of lattice and cascaded MRR chains with different configurations. Based on the analysis results, a novel compact design of a MRR chain has been proposed
Digital generated CPFSK IF test signals including phase noise
We present a simple, all electrical method for the generation of test signals for testing of fiber-optic coherent CPFSK IF receiver systems, using a programmable bit error rate tester. The feature to be able to add phase noise to the IF signal makes it possible to evaluate receiver system behavior with relation to local oscillator phase nois
Optimisation of in-building optical networks
A single in-building optical fibre network can efficiently deliver wired and wireless services. Point-topoint architectures using POF are attractive for small buildings; for large buildings SMF-based all-optical bus architectures using weighted tap couplers are preferable
Novel generation and transmission of 2 Gbps impulse radio ultra wideband over MMF for in-building networks application
We propose novel generation technique of IR-UWB pulse by linearly combining two monocycles using different pulse shapes. We experimentally demonstrate DSP based BER measurement of 2 Gbps IR-UWB over multimode fiber for in-building networks application.</p
4.7 Gbit/s transmission over 50m long 1mm diameter multi-core plastic optical fiber
We report, for the first time, 4.7 Gbit/s transmission over 50m long 1mm diameter multi-core step-index plastic optical fiber, employing discrete multitone techniques and low-cost optical transceiver. A spectral efficiency of 13 bit/s/Hz is demonstrated.</p
