Curioni and the experimental measurements on the strength of materials in the Scuola di applicazione per gli ingegneri of Turin

The establishment of the laboratory for the experiences on building materials at the Scuola di applicazione per gli ingegneri of Turin dates back to 1879. It is the result of the untiring activity carried out by professor Giovanni Curioni in the search of tools useful to combine education and scientific research and to provide concrete support to the theories given in class. The effects of this institution begun to show up from the day after its activation. As soon as the laboratory starts functioning, it becomes the fulcrum of a conspicuous activity of academic, scientific and professional experience, significantly influencing the progress of construction techniques. Since the late sixties of the XIX century, after having provided the Constructions Laboratory with equipment to support his teaching, Curioni expands the collection of tools and instruments designing a machine for testing the resistance of materials according to the most modern specifications. The operation of the machine marks the birth certificate of the experimental laboratory annexed to the Constructions Laboratory of the Politecnico di Torino

Il Gabinetto di Architettura antica e Tecnica degli stili

La mostra porta alla luce una collezione fotografica, conservata presso la Biblioteca Centrale di Ingegneria del Politecnico di Torino, costituita da 2.500 positivi su carta e su vetro e alcune cartoline artistiche risalenti al periodo compreso tra la fine del XIX secolo e i primi decenni del XX. La ricerca ha portato alla ricostruzione storica del Gabinetto di Architettura, attivo dal 1885 circa sino agli anni Trenta del XX secolo

ChronoMoMoWo

ChronoMoMoWo is a timeline conceived for the International Travelling Exhibition of the European project "MoMoWo – Women’s creativity since the Modern Movement". This timeline has been devised as a framework that helps to understand the activity carried out between 1918 and 2018 by European female architects, designers and civil engineers. ChronoMoMoWo mirrors the growing of visibility of women's professional creativity and provides a continuum of personal achievements that have contributed to breaking the glass ceiling that is often found in architecture and design. ChronoMoMoWo traces two lines that are related from a historical point of view. The lower area shows a summary of the main achievements of European women in the fields of politics, society, culture, science, education and sports. The upper area presents the most relevant milestones by female architects and designers, including the access of women to higher education, the awards received, and the creation of female professional associations or the most important works by several cohorts of female designers. This timeline represents a historical context that evolves from black and white pictures to colour photographs, portraying a group of capable and talented women that have been –and still are– able to compete with their male counterparts in their professional careers

Il contributo illustra un'esperienza di sensibilizzazione, ricerca, progettazione, partecipazione e comunicazione, portata avanti dalla Sezione Piemontese di AIDIA (1) sul tema dell'edilizia scolastica. Oggetto dell'indagine sono stati gli spazi per l'istruzione intesi come nodi nevralgici della socialità e dello sviluppo a partire dalla convinzione che la qualità dello spazio architettonico possa efficacemente influenzare la qualità della vita. I luoghi dell'istruzione sono infatti luoghi di formazione(non solamente culturale ma anche politica e sociale) per eccellenza dove gli studenti passano gran parte del loro tempo e forse, proprio per questo, più di altri luoghi della città -sono degni di attenzione ed impegno progettuale

Reti, Luoghi, Società. Infrastrutture per le generazioni

Ogni giorno il mondo in cui viviamo vede crescere sempre più il proprio livello di interconnessione. Grazie a tecnologie sofisticate, che hanno ormai definitivamente rotto la barriera tra reale e virtuale, i membri delle società contemporanee conducono le proprie vite quotidiane affidandosi in misura sempre maggiore a sistemi di reti materiali e immateriali, che hanno un impatto straordinario sui luoghi e sulla società. Reti che trasferiscono informazioni, energia, merci, persone e che - dopo un’iniziale diffusione nei territori più antropizzati - innervano ora l’intero pianeta, includendo regioni finora poco abitate o pressoché deserte, arrivando ad espandersi in alcuni casi anche al di fuori dell’atmosfera terrestre. La mostra si concentra sulle relazioni plurime tra le reti che innervano il nostro abitare, le società e le modalità di vita che caratterizzano i territori e le connotazioni fisiche e sociali assunte dai luoghi della contemporaneità. Gli assi portanti dell’esposizione sono quattro: Innovazione, Priorità, Transizione e Accessibilità. Sono parole chiave dai significati intenzionalmente fluidi, che sono state scelte per provare a suggerire ipotesi di lettura piuttosto che soluzioni permanenti
