Antibiotic resistance in Romania: An economic and medical challenge

    Get PDF
The use of antibiotics, without regard to the importance of first obtaining a prescription, is one of the current challenges, both in health and economic terms. At the global level, resistance to different classes of antibiotics is developing at an alarming rate, and the effects over time are worrying. Romania is one of the European countries facing this problem at the macro level, with the latest statistical data exposing this alarming situation. The lack of basic knowledge of the population regarding the purchase of medication and the habit of administering treatment without the clinician’s advice make this situation difficult to improve. This article discusses the importance of adequate education in antibiotic use, proposing concrete measures to improve the current situation. This study is based on results obtained by the author in previous research on antibiotic resistance in children diagnosed with unitary tract infection in the Braşov area. Thus, the need to apply the proposed solutions is based on the reality found in hospitals

The Case for Polymorphic Registers in Dataflow Computing

    Get PDF
Heterogeneous systems are becoming increasingly popular, delivering high performance through hardware specialization. However, sequential data accesses may have a negative impact on performance. Data parallel solutions such as Polymorphic Register Files (PRFs) can potentially accelerate applications by facilitating high-speed, parallel access to performance-critical data. This article shows how PRFs can be integrated into dataflow computational platforms. Our semi-automatic, compiler-based methodology generates customized PRFs and modifies the computational kernels to efficiently exploit them. We use a separable 2D convolution case study to evaluate the impact of memory latency and bandwidth on performance compared to a state-of-the-art NVIDIA Tesla C2050 GPU. We improve the throughput up to 56.17X and show that the PRF-augmented system outperforms the GPU for 9×9 or larger mask sizes, even in bandwidth-constrained systems

Some aspects concerning the influence of meteorological factors on Colorado beetle biology in Suceava conditions, in the range comprised between adults emergence and ponte first coating

From all meteorological factors, first were studied effect of temperature and humidity, because these factors influence the breeding intensity and further development of the insect. An analysis of climatic fluctuations in Suceava, suggests that the winters in a certain extent have warmed, the precipitation quantities from the cold season and summer temperatures have increased considerably, which makes the insect development and biology to default other facets to years of occurrence in the Suceava. Taking into consideration the data recorded during 2006-2009, the average adult stage from hibernate adult emergence in G1, until to pontes depositing was on average 18 and 16 days. If in 2006-2008 duration of this phase do not differ significantly between the two appearances of adults, in 2009 duration of the same stage was eight days longer in the first phase compared to the second stage. This major difference can be attributed to the large number of days (ten) with low temperatures

The influence of meteorological conditions from the winter season on biological reserve of Leptinotarsa decemlineata say. adults, in the center of Suceava plateau

Interdependence between the thermal regime of the soil and the depth at which there is the most significant hypothermia tolerance was put into evidence under 2006-2009. In 2006, after a more severe winter, the most numerous hibernating adults were recorded in the layer of 31-40 cm, while in other years at a depth of 26-30 cm. Below and above these depths hibernating adult population has diminished under the years 2007 to 2009. This is due to hypothermia in the superficial layers of the soil, and in the deepest (below 30-40 cm), adults debilitation, as a result of increased consumption of carbohydrates and fats during break time and high crossing thicker soil layer

Multiparticle quantum walk in the strongly interacting SU(3)SU(3) Su-Schrieffer-Heeger-Hubbard topological model

Recent experiments on single-particle quantum walks in photonic structures indicate that the photon dynamics is capable to capture the topological properties of the system's bulk states. However, the role of interactions in such topological quantum walks has not been explored exhaustively. Here we study multiparticle continuous time quantum walks in interacting Su-Schrieffer-Heeger lattices with multiple flavors, and compute the many-body Berry phase and the single and many-body chiral polarization to assess the effect of interactions on topology. We find that bulk topology survives strong interactions in the presence of inversion symmetry and it is robust to moderate disorder both in equilibrium and during a quantum walk. Our predictions are well within the experimental reach for cold atomic gases and can be used to detect the topological properties of excited states through dynamical probes.Comment: 5 pages, 3 figures and supplementary materia
