An Analytical Framework for the Selection and Classification of Archaeological Pottery in Order to Create an Integrated Characteristics Record. I. Preliminary Field Analysis of the Cucuteni Pottery from Hoisesti (Iasi county)
The present paper aims to establish a series of characteristics, as well as a theoretical and methodological framework, to help assess the possible utility of Neolithic pots, based on the analysis of its fabric. Our approach is based on the use of a series of analytical parameters, through the use of macroscopic or microscopic visual inspection of pottery fragments on site. The variables identifiable through this analysis help us define the physical characteristics of the fabric, firing and non-plastic inclusions. By applying the methodology of this study to the Cucuteni A pottery from the Hoiseºti - the La Pod site, we were able to define three categories of fabrics, each with its specific characteristics and possible utilities. This approach helped us determine the possible site function during its excavation and record the characteristics of the pottery in an integrated table
Training in Third World Countries: The International Civil Defense Organization (ICDO)
The International Civil Defense Organization (ICDO) is helping a large proportion of the Third World Countries where Civil Protection is considered, promoted and organized as a State Service, an obligation of the Authorities toward the population to save it from the devastating effects of a natural or technological disaster or the after-effects of a serious accident. The absence of the industrialized countries within the ICDO has not prevented the poor countries from developing a protection and safety system within the Technical Cooperation Program of ICDO, by their own efforts and with their own resources. The system is based on intervention units, which although sometimes in their embryonic stages, are already capable, however, of administering emergency first aid. Hence the keen interest of those countries in resuscitation technique
Dissociation dynamics of fluorinated ethene cations:\ud from time bombs on a molecular level to double-regime dissociators\ud
The dissociative photoionization mechanism of internal energy selected CHF, 1,1-CHF, CHF and CF cations have been studied in the 13−20 eV photon energy range using imaging photoelectron photoion coincidence spectroscopy. Five predominant channels have been found; HF loss, statistical and non-statistical F loss, cleavage of the C–C bond post H or F-atom migration, and cleavage of the C=C bond. By modelling the breakdown diagrams and ion time-of-flight distributions using statistical theory, experimental 0 K appearance energies, E, of the daughter ions have been determined. Both CHF and 1,1-CHF are veritable time bombs with respect to dissociation via HF loss, where slow dissociation over a reverse barrier is followed by an explosion with large kinetic energy release. The first dissociative ionization pathway for CHF and CF involves an atom migration across the C=C bond, giving CF–CHF and CF–CF, respectively, which then dissociate to form CHF and CF. The nature of the F-loss pathway has been found to be bimodal for CHF and 1,1-CHF, switching from statistical to non-statistical behaviour as the photon energy increases. The dissociative ionization of CF is found to be comprised of two regimes. At high internal energies, a long-lived excited electronic state is formed, which loses an F atom in a non-statistical process and undergoes statistical redistribution of energy among the nuclear degrees of freedom. This is followed by a subsequent dissociation. In other words only the ground electronic state phase space stays inaccessible. The accurate E of CF and CF formation from CF together with the now well established ∆Hº of CF yield self-consistent enthalpies of formation for the CF, CF, CF, and CF species
The Effects of Electronic Word-of-Mouth: An Exploratory Study.
Although marketing and advertising professionals tend to believe the effectiveness of electronic word-of-mouth (eWOM), few studies have confirmed the eWOM effects. Therefore, this study conducted a test of eWOM effects in a laboratory experiment. Subjects were randomly assigned into three groups: advertising only, advertising and positive eWOM, and advertising and negative eWOM. Results showed that eWOM possesses influences on consumers attitudes and purchase intentions, however the effects of positive eWOM are very limited. Results also showed that the effects of negative eWOM carry more weight than positive eWOM. This study also uncovered the complexity of eWOM effects. It is likely that the eWOM effects on changing attitude toward the brand are more direct and significant than the effects on attitude toward the ad and purchase intention. Besides, the effectiveness of eWOM may rest on the fulfillment of other antecedents. Implications for marketing practice were discussed
Geomechanical Modelling of Induced Seismicity
In recent years, there has been a dramatic increase in seismicity (earthquakes) due to anthropogenic activities related to the unconventional oil and gas exploration in the Western Canada Sedimentary Basin (WCSB) and the central U.S. There are compelling evidences that hydraulic fracturing and wastewater injection operations in those areas play a key role in induced seismicity. To better understand the physical mechanisms involved, this thesis aims to explore the mechanisms responsible for occurrence of induced earthquakes: mainshock-aftershock triggering mechanism and poroelastic response. In the first approach, the obtained results indicate the relationship between the Coulomb stress changes after 4 moderate earthquakes near Fox Creek, Alberta and Timpson, Texas and their subsequent events. In the second approach, two hydraulic fracturing operations near Fox Creek are modelled to study the poroelastic response of the medium due to the fluid injection under specific site conditions. Pore pressure and stress changes for these two related earthquake clusters are computed and the sensitivities of the model parameters are analyzed
Subway and its powerful presence in social media
“Analyzing Subway’s Successful Social Media Efforts” is a required project for the social media and marketing communications course. This project, which began during the fall semester of 2014, involves identifying Subway’s varying advertisement campaigns, the main target market these ads are intended for, the main media vehicles used to deliver these ads, and how effective these ads are in expanding Subway’s global footprint. More specifically, the research paper uncovers Subway’s varying advertisement campaign themes, multiple execution styles, and how Subway successfully applies the dual adaptation strategy in global markets through the use of social media formats Facebook and Twitter. The research also highlights the company’s history, main competitor, product lines and assortment, and its recent financial success. The paper concludes that Doctor’s Association’s Subway brand is highly successful in marketing its products due to its ability to relate the themes of health and fitness with its submarine sandwiches in ads that vary in both execution style and in media format based on the respective audience the company is trying to target. Mutual Integration in Immigration Society: An Epistemic Argument
The public culture of the receiving society and the dominant understanding of belonging and political membership can influence the social participation of immigrants as much as immigration law. However, current discussions of integration focus primarily on the distribution of rights and neglect the role of tacit knowledge. Through a systematical and philosophical analysis of identity's role in policy-making, governance and social practice, Bodi Wang shows how a one-sided understanding of integration resembles "assimilation" and why integration should be expected from locals as well. Weaving together extensive findings in sociology, history, critical race theory and Chinese philosophy with ethics and migration studies, this book provides a compelling argument for adopting the concept of "mutual integration" to overcome injustice and to enhance social solidarity
