Mass-deformed ABJM and Black Holes in AdS4_4

We find a class of new supersymmetric dyonic black holes in four-dimensional maximal gauged supergravity which are asymptotic to the SU(3)×U(1){\rm SU(3)}\times {\rm U(1)} invariant AdS4_4 Warner vacuum. These black holes can be embedded in eleven-dimensional supergravity where they describe the backreaction of M2-branes wrapped on a Riemann surface. The holographic dual description of these supergravity backgrounds is given by a partial topological twist on a Riemann surface of a three-dimensional N=2\mathcal{N}=2 SCFT that is obtained by a mass-deformation of the ABJM theory. We compute explicitly the topologically twisted index of this SCFT and show that it accounts for the entropy of the black holes.Comment: 67 pages, 7 figure

    Holography for N=1∗\mathcal{N}=1^* on S4S^4

    Get PDF
We construct the five-dimensional supergravity dual of the N=1∗\mathcal{N}=1^* mass deformation of the N=4\mathcal{N} =4 supersymmetric Yang-Mills theory on S4S^4 and use it to calculate the universal contribution to the corresponding S4S^4 free energy at large 't Hooft coupling in the planar limit. The holographic RG flow solutions are smooth and preserve four supercharges. As a novel feature compared to the holographic duals of N=1∗\mathcal{N} = 1^* on R4\mathbb{R}^4, in our backgrounds the five-dimensional dilaton has a non-trivial profile, and the gaugino condensate is fixed in terms of the mass-deformation parameters. Important aspects of the analysis involve characterizing the ambiguities in the partition function of non-conformal N=1\mathcal{N}=1 supersymmetric theories on S4S^4 as well as the action of S-duality on the N=1∗\mathcal{N}=1^* theory.Comment: 40 pages + appendices, 4 figure

    Decoding a Three-Dimensional Conformal Manifold

We study the one-dimensional complex conformal manifold that controls the infrared dynamics of a three-dimensional N=2\mathcal{N}=2 supersymmetric theory of three chiral superfields with a cubic superpotential. Two special points on this conformal manifold are the well-known XYZ model and three decoupled copies of the critical Wess-Zumino model. The conformal manifold enjoys a discrete duality group isomorphic to S4S_4 and can be thought of as an orbifold of CP1\mathbf{CP}^1. We use the 4−ε4-\varepsilon expansion and the numerical conformal bootstrap to calculate the spectrum of conformal dimensions of low-lying operators and their OPE coefficients, and find a very good quantitative agreement between the two approaches.Comment: 59 pages, 13 figure

Spiky Strings, Giant Magnons and beta-deformations

We study rigid string solutions rotating on the S^3 subspace of the beta-deformed AdS_5xS^5 background found by Lunin and Maldacena. For particular values of the parameters of the solutions we find the known giant magnon and single spike strings. We present a single spike string solution on the deformed S^3 and find how the deformation affects the dispersion relation. The possible relation of this string solution to spin chains and the connection of the solutions on the undeformed S^3 to the sine-Gordon model are briefly discussed.Comment: 20 pages, 2 figures; v2: typos corrected, references adde

Supergravity Instabilities of Non-Supersymmetric Quantum Critical Points

Motivated by the recent use of certain consistent truncations of M-theory to study condensed matter physics using holographic techniques, we study the SU(3)-invariant sector of four-dimensional, N=8 gauged supergravity and compute the complete scalar spectrum at each of the five non-trivial critical points. We demonstrate that the smaller SU(4)^- sector is equivalent to a consistent truncation studied recently by various authors and find that the critical point in this sector, which has been proposed as the ground state of a holographic superconductor, is unstable due to a family of scalars that violate the Breitenlohner-Freedman bound. We also derive the origin of this instability in eleven dimensions and comment on the generalization to other embeddings of this critical point which involve arbitrary Sasaki-Einstein seven manifolds. In the spirit of a resurging interest in consistent truncations, we present a formal treatment of the SU(3)-invariant sector as a U(1)xU(1) gauged N=2 supergravity theory coupled to one hypermultiplet.Comment: 46 page

Mass Deformations of the ABJM Theory: The Holographic Free Energy

We find a class of new supersymmetric Euclidean solutions in four-dimensional maximal gauged supergravity. The holographic dual description of these backgrounds is given by a mass-deformation of the ABJM theory with general values for the R-charges. We calculate the S3S^3 free energy for the supergravity backgrounds and find agreement with the supersymmetric localization calculation of the free energy in the large NN limit.Comment: 40 pages, 5 figure

    Schr\"odinger Deformations of AdS_3 x S^3

We study Schr\"odinger invariant deformations of the AdS_3 x S^3 x T^4 (or K3) solution of IIB supergravity and find a large class of solutions with integer and half-integer dynamical exponents. We analyze the supersymmetries preserved by our solutions and find an infinite number of solutions with four supersymmetries. We study the solutions holographically and find that the dual D1-D5 (or F1-NS5) CFT is deformed by irrelevant operators of spin one and two.Comment: 23 page

    Holography for N=2∗{\cal N}=2^* on S4S^4

    Get PDF
We find the gravity dual of N=2∗\mathcal{N}=2^* super-Yang-Mills theory on S4S^4 and use holography to calculate the universal contribution to the corresponding S4S^4 free energy at large NN and large 't Hooft coupling. Our result matches the expression previously computed using supersymmetric localization in the field theory. This match represents a non-trivial precision test of holography in a non-conformal, Euclidean signature setting.Comment: 31 pages + appendices, 3 figure
