Discovery potential for a charged Higgs boson decaying in the chargino-neutralino channel of the ATLAS detector at the LHC
We have investigated charged Higgs boson production via the gluon-bottom
quark mode, gb -> tH+, followed by its decay into a chargino and a neutralino.
The calculations are based on masses and couplings given by the Minimal
Supersymmetric Standard Model (MSSM) for a specific choice of MSSM parameters.
The signature of the signal is characterized by three hard leptons, a
substantial missing transverse energy due to the decay of the neutralino and
the chargino and three hard jets from the hadronic decay of the top quark. The
possibility of detecting the signal over the Standard Model (SM) and non-SM
backgrounds was studied for a set of tanBeta and mA. The existence of 5-sigma
confidence level regions for H+ discovery at integrated luminosities of 100
fb-1 and 300 fb-1 is demonstrated, which cover also the intermediate region 4 <
tanBeta < 10 where H+ decays to SM particles cannot be used for H+ discovery
Lepton - Chargino Mixing and R-Parity Violating SUSY

violating SUSY. The case in which the bilinear couplings have large

Neutrino Oscillations from Supersymmetry without R-parity - Its Implications on the Flavor Structure of the Theory
We discuss here some flavor structure aspects of the complete theory of
supersymmetry without R-parity addressed from the perspective of fitting
neutrino oscillation data based on the recent Super-Kamiokande result. The
single-VEV parametrization of supersymmetry without R-parity is first reviewed,
illustrating some important features not generally appreciated. For the flavor
structure discussions, a naive, flavor model independent, analysis is

Energy Efficient Engine Flight Propulsion System Preliminary Analysis and Design Report
The final design and analysis of the flight propulsion system is presented. This system is the conceptual study engine defined to meet the performance, economic and environmental goals established for the Energy Efficient Engine Program. The design effort included a final definition of the engine, major components, internal subsystems, and nacelle. Various analytical representations and results from component technology programs are used to verify aerodynamic and structural design concepts and to predict performance. Specific design goals and specifications, reflecting future commercial aircraft propulsion system requirements for the mid-1980's, are detailed by NASA and used as guidelines during engine definition. Information is also included which details salient results from a separate study to define a turbofan propulsion system, known as the maximum efficiency engine, which reoptimized the advanced fuel saving technologies for improved fuel economy and direct operating costs relative to the flight propulsion system
Single and Multiple Vortex Rings in Three-Dimensional Bose-Einstein Condensates: Existence, Stability and Dynamics
In the present work, we explore the existence, stability and dynamics of
single and multiple vortex ring states that can arise in Bose-Einstein
condensates. Earlier works have illustrated the bifurcation of such states, in
the vicinity of the linear limit, for isotropic or anisotropic
three-dimensional harmonic traps. Here, we extend these states to the regime of
large chemical potentials, the so-called Thomas-Fermi limit, and explore their
properties such as equilibrium radii and inter-ring distance, for multi-ring
states, as well as their vibrational spectra and possible instabilities. In
this limit, both the existence and stability characteristics can be partially
traced to a particle picture that considers the rings as individual particles
oscillating within the trap and interacting pairwise with one another. Finally,
we examine some representative instability scenarios of the multi-ring dynamics
including breakup and reconnections, as well as the transient formation of

Transverse mass and invariant mass observables for measuring the mass of a semi-invisibly decaying heavy particle
Formulae are derived for the positions of end-points in the invariant mass
and transverse mass distributions obtained from the products of heavy states
decaying to pairs of semi-invisibly decaying lighter states. Formulae are
derived both for the special case where the two decay chains are identical and
the more general case where they are different. The formulae are tested with a
simple case study of heavy SUSY higgs particles decaying to gauginos at the

Upper gastrointestinal sensitivity to meal-related signals in adult humans - relevance to appetite regulation and gut symptoms in health, obesity and functional dyspepsia
Available online 21 March 2016Both the stomach and small intestine play important roles in sensing the arrival of a meal, and its physico-chemical characteristics, in the gastrointestinal lumen. The presence of a meal in the stomach provides a distension stimulus, and, as the meal empties into the small intestine, nutrients interact with small intestinal receptors, initiating the release of gut hormones, associated with feedback regulation of gastrointestinal functions, including gut motility, and signaling to the central nervous system, modulating eating behaviours, including energy intake. Lipid appears to have particularly potent effects, also in close interaction with, and modulating the effects of, gastric distension, and involving the action of gut hormones, particularly cholecystokinin (CCK). These findings have not only provided important, and novel, insights into how gastrointestinal signals interact to modulate subjective appetite perceptions, incl. Fullness, but also laid the foundation for an increasing appreciation of the role of altered gastrointestinal sensitivities, e.g. as a consequence of excess dietary intake in obesity, or underlying the induction of gastrointestinal symptoms in functional dyspepsia (a condition characterized by symptoms, including bloating, nausea and early fullness, amongst others, after meals, particularly those high in fat, in the absence of any structural or functional abnormalities in the gastrointestinal tract). This paper will review the effects of dietary nutrients, particularly lipid, on gastrointestinal function, and associated effects on appetite perceptions and energy intake, effects of interactions of gastrointestinal stimuli, as well as the role of altered gastrointestinal sensitivities (exaggerated, or reduced) in eating-related disorders, particularly obesity and functional dyspepsia.Christine Feinle-Bisse
