    Non-Abelian Anyon Superconductivity

    Get PDF
Non-Abelian Anyons exist in certain spin models and may exist in Quantuam Hall systems at certain filling fractions. In this work we studied the ground state of dynamical SU(2) level-κ\kappa Chern Simons non-Abelian anyons at finite density and no external magnetic field. We find that in the large-κ\kappa limit the topological interaction induces a pairing instability and the ground state is a superconductor with d+id\it{d+id} gap symmetry. We also develop a picture of pairing for the special value κ=2\kappa=2 and argue that the ground state is a superfluid of pairs for all values of κ\kappa.Comment: 5 pages, no figure

Edge States and Interferometers in the Pfaffian and anti-Pfaffian States

We compute the tunneling current in a double point contact geometry of a Quantum Hall system at filling fraction ν=5/2\nu=5/2, as function of voltage and temeprature, in the weak tunneling regime. We quantitatively compare two possible candidates for the state at ν=5/2\nu=5/2: the Moore-Read Pfaffian state, and its particle-hole conjugate, the anti-Pfaffian. We find that both possibilities exhibit the same qualitative behavior, and both have an even-odd effect that reflects their non-Abelian nature, but differ quantitatively in their voltage and temperature dependance.Comment: 8 pages, 3 figures. Christology and deification in the Church of the East Mar Gewargis I, his Synod and his letter to mina as a polemic Against Martyrius-Sahdona

We should like, with our paper, to highlight another aspect of the Christological controversy that took place immediately after the 'nestorianization' of the Church of the East in 612 AD. We mean the controversy of Martyrius-Sahdona and the reaction of the catholicos Gewargis I. In Martyrius' Christology, the 'divinization' of the mystic is seen as a consequence of the 'divinization' of the human nature in Christ because of the union of the two natures that occurred in the one hypostasis and person of the Word, refuting in this way, the official doctrine of his Church, i.e. the two natures and hypostases united in the one person of Christ. Against this Christology, the catholicos Gewargis I attempted to intervene on two levels: canonical, through a synod convoked in Qatar in 676, and doctrinal, through a letter written in 679/680 and sent to Mina, a Corepiscope in Persia. In the synod, there was a controversy against certain 'false monks' and a focus on the importance of the Orthodox faith to counteract heretics; his letter, on the other hand, expressed a true controversy against those who taught the hypostatic union, i.e., Martyrius and his followers. In the letter, moreover, the catholicos proposes a doctrine of 'divinization', based, however, on the official Christological doctrine of his Church. Their Christologies will be studied and compared so we can illustrate better this important period of the history of this church. We will see also how the catholicos developed the Christology of the two-qnomē so that the doctrine of 'divinization' could be applicable in its metaphysical system

Social and Ethical Dilemmas in Working with School Counselors in Secondary Schools for Students with Learning Disabilities

    Get PDF
We examined the differences in the way school counselors handle social and moral dilemmas in secondary schools for children with learning disabilities. This study compared educational counselors with open approaches to counselors with more conservative approaches to social and moral dilemmas. The study raised two questions. (1) How do school counselors with more open pedagogical approaches handle social and moral dilemmas? (2) How do school counselors with more conservative pedagogical approaches handle social and moral dilemmas? The participants were 15 school counselors in secondary schools who worked with students with learning disabilities. We asked the counselors to describe a dilemma that they had experienced in the course of their work. The findings show that we can divide school counselors into two groups based on the way they handle dilemmas: a more open group and a more conservative group. The results of our study will enable us to improve the training programs for school counselors and provide more effective treatment approaches to solve social and moral dilemmas school counselors encounter

    Odd-Even Crossover in a non-Abelian ν=5/2\nu=5/2 Interferometer

We compute the backscattered current in a double point-contact geometry of a Quantum Hall system at filling fraction ν=5/2\nu=5/2 as a function of bias voltage in the weak backscattering regime. We assume that the system is in the universality class of either the Pfaffian or anti-Pfaffian state. When the number of charge e/4e/4 quasiparticles in the interferometer is odd, there is no interference pattern. However, the coupling between a charge e/4e/4 quasiparticle and the edge causes it to be absorbed by the edge at low energies. Consequently, an interference pattern appears at low bias voltages and temperatures, as if there were an even number of quasiparticles in the interferometer. We relate this problem to that of a semi-infinite Ising model with a boundary magnetic field. Using the methods of perturbed boundary conformal field theory, we give an exact expression for this crossover of the interferometer as a function of bias voltage. Finally, we comment on the possible relevance of our results to recent interference experiments.Comment: Two figures added, along with a brief explanation of them. Once-monthly paliperidone injection for the treatment of schizophrenia

    Get PDF
Paliperidone palmitate is a new long-acting antipsychotic injection for the treatment of acute and maintenance therapy in schizophrenia. Paliperidone (9-hydroxyrisperidone) is the major active metabolite of risperidone and acts at dopamine D2 and serotonin 5HT2A receptors. As with other atypical antipsychotics, it exhibits a high 5HT2A:D2 affinity ratio. It also has binding activity as an antagonist at α1-and α2 adrenergic receptors and H1 histaminergic receptors, but has virtually no affinity for cholinergic receptors. Paliperidone palmitate has been shown to be effective in reducing Positive and Negative Syndrome Scale total scores in four short-term trials in acute schizophrenia. It was also effective as maintenance therapy in a long-term trial in which time to recurrence of symptoms was significantly longer in paliperidone-treated patients compared with placebo. In addition, paliperidone was shown to be noninferior to risperidone long-acting injection in one study, but this noninferiority was not established in another longer study comparing the two drugs. Treatment should be initiated with 234 mg on day 1 and 156 mg on day 8, followed by a recommended monthly maintenance dose of 39–234 mg based on efficacy and tolerability. Paliperidone palmitate is generally well tolerated, although it can cause weight gain and a rise in prolactin levels, which is generally greater in women than in men. Overall, paliperidone palmitate may have advantages over other currently available long-acting injections, and therefore may be a useful alternative for the treatment of schizophrenia, although further long-term trials comparing it with active treatments are warranted

Aesthetics of the Excavations of the Spatial Environment in Nawal al-Sadwawi's Perception: Her Novel Imra'ah Inda Nuqtat al-Sifr/ Woman at a Zero Point as a Sample

The environment of the novel is both: its Place-and-Time truth, including everything that the place includes from nature and objects, and everything that Time includes as a moving sequence or time that has its frontiers and characteristics that are connected to the age that they belong to. This means that this environment is everything that is connected to the natural medium and the morals of the characters and their lifestyles. Environment in the novel has a special concept- it is a cultural concept that is not satisfied with the total natural circumstances that surround the human being in the novel, the total social circumstances that are connected to the human being and affect his life and create the events of this life within the story. [1] The value of the Place in Nawal al-Sadawi's novels is in its representation of a fundamental theme that defines the thematic frame of the novels deal with. Consequently, it is impossible to approach Nawal al-Sadawi's textual place without being pressed by its authority, which prevents this critical approach from originating from projection of the action on the texts, and makes it an exploratory operation and selection of these texts. Thus, the Places in which the major character exists and the action of the novel turn into an existence that imposes itself on the atmospheres of the text. In this way, the Place frame turns into an aesthetic pointer that justifies the dynamics of the action and achieves its process, because every event will inevitably have a Place to contain and refer to it.Ambiguity in literature is likeable due to its attraction to the reader's attention and his suspense, but if all the literary work is wrapped by ambiguity, it cannot convey its objective as it should. We can say that this is exactly what Nawal al-Sadawi applied in her novels as she had a balanced attitude regarding ambiguity, and she succeeded in it.[2] Keywords: Nawal al-Sadawi, excavations, place, time, environment, novel.
