Design of an SHG-active crystal, 4-iodo-4'-nitrobiphenyl: therole of supramolecular synthons
The crystal structure of 4-iodo-4'-nitrobiphenyl has been determined with packing calculations and the presence of polar and parallel iodo···nitro supramolecular synthons leads to non-centrosymmetry and measurable SHG activity
Supramolecular assemblies involving metal organic ring interactions: Heterometallic Cu(II)-Ln(III) two dimensional coordination polymers
Three isostructural two-dimensional coordination polymers of the general formula [Ln2(CuL)3(H2O)9]$5.5H2O, where Ln is La (1), Nd (2), and Gd (3), have been synthesized and isolated from aqueous solutions and their single-crystal structures determined by X-ray diffraction. The supramolecular interaction between the non-aromatic metallorings plays an important role in stabilizing the structure of these compounds. The thermal stability, reversible solvent uptake, electronic properties and magnetic studies of these compounds are also reported
Reticular synthesis and the design of new materials
The long-standing challenge of designing and constructing new crystalline solid-state materials from molecular building blocks is just beginning to be addressed with success. A conceptual approach that requires the use of secondary building units to direct the assembly of ordered frameworks epitomizes this process: we call this approach reticular synthesis. This chemistry has yielded materials designed to have predetermined structures, compositions and properties. In particular, highly porous frameworks held together by strong metal-oxygen-carbon bonds and with exceptionally large surface area and capacity for gas storage have been prepared and their pore metrics systematically varied and functionalized.Peer Reviewedhttp://deepblue.lib.umich.edu/bitstream/2027.42/62718/1/nature01650.pd

2,6-dibenzoylhydroquinone
The title compound, C20H14O4, forms an infinite network of O-H…O and C-H…O hydrogen bonds. The phenyl rings of the benzoyl groups are non-coplanar with the quinol moiety
