© Medwell Journals, 2016.The study is devoted to the analysis of some tendencies in contemporary punctuation from the viewpoint of optionality. The analysis is based on the Russian and English languages. In the article the brief description of the optionality phenomenon is given. The analysis of active trends in punctuation allows to speak about the formation of new regulations involving the usage of variants according to linguistic and extralinguistic situations. The researcher states that optionality in the given aspect is found out in the parallel use of variants of using of punctuation marks in the written form of language and draws a conclusion that optionality should be regarded as a natural way of existence of punctuation norm in the Russian and English languages

This paper presents an attempt at conducting an analysis of the notion “optionality” based on the works of experts in the given sphere. There is a certain lack of consistency in the matter of understanding and interpretation of the given phenomenon in the linguistic literature. Some scientists mean by optionality an opportunity to substitute one synonymic word by the other without significant changes in the plane of content; others recognize ellipsis in it, while the third party-an optional combinability. The issue of faculty has obtained the widest discussion in sinology. According to one of the theories, optionality can be studied against redundancy and economy of language means. In this case the phenomenon of optionality in the Chinese language can manifest itself on the level of phonemes, morphemes and lexemes. Functioning of grammatical markers expressing aspect, tense, number, etc. can serve as an example, as it possesses the property of optionality. The majority of scholars agree that optionality is an objective property of language system and is closely connected with the process of the language ongoing development

Formal and semantic variation in the sphere of morphology in the English language in the light of optionality

The article explores the use of simple and derivative forms of adverbs in the English language from the angle of the problem of optionality. Modern English possesses numerous structures which are represented by two or more modifications having the same meaning. Variants here described are generally interchangeable, i.e. they can be used optionally. In the article an attempt has been made to introduce some differences in their usage which can bear the light to the present-day practice. Most definitions, or «rules», have been profusely illustrated to make it easier to see when and how the two structures can function as variants

Levels of operating police officers' stress-tolerance development

The article deals with levels of operating police officers' stress-tolerance development. The study of stress-tolerance of police officers, who are exposed to many negative factors, is particularly relevant from a practical point of view. This is a part of the study devoted to the development of stress-tolerance of novice police officers by means of psychological correction of the process of self-regulation of their professional activities. Psycho diagnostic methods include a number of tests and questionnaires, which are described further in the "Methods" section. On the stating stage of the study significant differences on many indicators between novice police officers (low level of stress-tolerance) and police officers with experience (high level of stress-tolerance) were revealed. The differences are the following: differences in stable personal features, in special characteristics, in sensitivity to external stressors, in emotional levels, in the ability to self-regulation. Correlation analysis showed a large number of interrelations in the group of police officers with experience and a small number of interrelations in the group of novice police officers. Obviously, a low level of stress-tolerance is caused by a violation of basic regulatory relations at professional activity of the person, which in turn is related to the lack of professional experience. The results of the study are of great interest both from scientific and practical point of view, and further were used to increase the resistance to stress of novice police officers

Grammatical and communicative method - A new approach in the practice of teaching foreign languages

© Canadian Center of Science and Education. The article discusses the advantages and disadvantages of different methods of teaching foreign languages. A new unique method of teaching foreign languages - grammar and communicative is developed and described. The purpose of this article is a detailed review of the existing diversity of methods of teaching foreign languages in Russia and presentation of the new one - the grammatical and communicative. Recently, learning a foreign language in Russia by the people of different professions has become a necessity due to the rapid growth of contacts with foreign partners. In the process of close cooperation the situations that require training and internships abroad arise, and as a consequence - an indispensable international certification in English. This implies the international exams - TOEFL (Test of English as Foreign Language) or IELTS (International English Language Testing System). It is reported that modern teaching methods have various disadvantages, the main one is the lack of the grammatical material study. The author has developed a grammatical and communicative method and new tutorial which can help to solve this problem successfully. A more comprehensive and in-depth study of grammar is encouraged for students and professionals in order to pass exams for international certification and for further education and training abroad

© Medwell Journals, 2016.The main objective of the styudy is the analysis of the use of articles with common nouns in the English language in terms of optionality. Optionality here is observed as a linguistic phenomenon which involves an optional or free use of one of the grammar variants or language means conveying meaning in the particular linguistic and extralinguistic terms. The co-existence of parallel structures in the use of articles with a common noun is a widely spread phenomenon in modern English. As a result the study attempts to determine the obligatory and optional variants of the use of articles, based on the semantic and structural reasons. The researcher comes to the conclusion that the study of grammatical variants in the usage of articles has an extremely high theoretical and practical importance because the existing rules for the use of articles in modern English are not always circumstantial as they regulate the use of articles, restricting them to a limited number of language situations
