Stray kids and skinship: an interactionist perspective on queerbaiting as fan service in K-pop

The K-pop industry has standardized the establishment of parasocial relationships among fans and K-pop idols and has seen increasingly global success with this marketing strategy. Despite language and cultural barriers, fans all over the world feel a connection to K-pop idols and will interpret their actions in ways that are subjective to the fan’s own perspective. As of 2023, there are little to no successful K-pop idols that are openly queer. Fans engage in resistant readings of idols’ behavior as a way to project their own meaning onto the idol’s intentions, but this projection is constructed and encouraged by K-pop companies themselves through subtle tactics such as queerbaiting. With the successful K-pop boy group Stray Kids and their variety series 2 Kids’ Room, the methods in which these readings are encouraged by producers are analyzed through the lens of symbolic interactionism. In this thesis, the dialogue between the members is analyzed for sociological themes as well as the frequencies of visible touch occurrences (VTOs) where the members are shown engaging in touching or skinship on camera. The discussions of the members in the series reveal sociological themes such as body image and weight, masculinity, and expressions of emotions and hardships. These themes as well as the presence of queerbaiting are used to inform this case study of fan service as a marketing tactic and establish why queer references in K-pop are delivered almost exclusively as implicit and indirect rather than direct representation

Em todas as feridas tratadas, observou-se: menor tempo para cicatrização, menor formação de tecido de granulação exuberante, menor incidência de bactérias patológicas e menor aumento na área total.<br>In the present experimental study, the use of the equine amniotic membrane preserved in glvcerol 98%, at room temperature, in wounds with secound intention healing of equine limbs were evaluated. Surgical wounds of the size of 9.6cm² were made on the fetiock joint, medial aspect of the proximal third of the metacarpus and lateral aspect of the medium third of the metatarsus ofboth limbs offive adult horses, making a total of thirty wounds. Two experimental groups were made with fifteen wounds in each group, where one of these groups was treated with amniotic membrane, and the other, the control group, treated only with a damp gauze changed every 48 hours. In all the wounds the procedure was to evaluate the measurement of the área, degree of secretion, development of exuberant granulation tissue and the complete time of epitheliazation. Bacteriologic and histopatologic exams were made in a sample of the treated and contrai groups. The biochemical determination of proteins and the identification of fibroblastic growth factor were realized in the amnionic membrane. In all the treated wounds were observed shorter healing time, less formation of exuberant granulation tissue, smaller incidence of pathogenic bacterias and a smaller increase of the wound area

Vehicle Exhaust Gas Chemical Sensors Using Acoustic Wave Resonators

Under Sandia&apos;s Laboratory Directed Research and Development (LDRD) program, novel acoustic wave-based sensors were explored for detecting gaseous chemical species in vehicle exhaust streams. The need exists for on-line, real-time monitors to continuously analyze the toxic exhaust gases --- nitrogen oxides (NO x ), carbon monoxide (CO), and hydrocarbons (HC) --- for determining catalytic converter efficiency, documenting compliance to emission regulations, and optimizing engine performance through feedback control. In this project, we adapted existing acoustic wave chemical sensor technology to the high-temperature environment and investigated new robust sensor materials for improving gas detection sensitivity and selectivity. This report describes one new sensor that has potential use as an exhaust stream residual hydrocarbon monitor. The sensor consists of a thickness shear mode (TSM) quartz resonator coated with a thin mesoporous silica layer ion-exchanged with palladium ions. When ..
