Spectroscopic Evidence for the Specific Na+ and K+ Interactions with the Hydrogen-bonded Water Molecules at the Electrolyte Aqueous Solution Surfaces
Sum frequency generation vibrational spectra of the water molecules at the
NaF and KF aqueous solution surfaces showed significantly different spectral
features and different concentration dependence. This result is the first
direct observation of the cation effects of the simple alkali cations, which
have been believed to be depleted from the aqueous surface, on the hydrogen
bonding structure of the water molecules at the electrolyte solution surfaces.
These observations may provide important clue to understand the fundamental
phenomenon of ions at the air/water interface.Comment: 15 pages, 2 figure
On the dilaton and the axion potentials
We extend the Vecchia-Veneziano-Witten (VVW) model of QCD in the chiral limit
and for large colour number , by introducing an effective dilaton-gluon
coupling from which we derive both the axion and dilaton potentials.
Furthermore, using a string inspired model, we determine a new interquark
potential as a perturbative series in terms of the interquark distance . Our
potential goes beyond Dick one obtained in [8] and shares the same features as
the Bian-Huang-Shen potential which depends only on odd powers of

SDSS J143030.22-001115.1: A misclassified narrow-line Seyfert 1 galaxy with flat X-ray spectrum
We used multi-component profiles to model H and [O III]4959,5007 lines for SDSS J143030.22-001115.1, a narrow-line Seyfert 1
galaxy (NLS1) in a sample of 150 NLS1s candidates selected from the Sloan
Digital Sky Survey (SDSS) Early Data Release (EDR). After subtracting the
H contribution from narrow line regions (NLRs), we found that its full
width half maximum (FWHM) of broad H line is nearly 2900 \kms,
significantly larger than the customarily adopted criterion of 2000 \kms. With
its weak Fe II multiples, we think that SDSS J143030.22-001115.1 can't be
classified as a genuine NLS1. When we calculate the virial black hole masses of
NLS1s, we should use the H linewidth after subtracting the H

Probabilistic Timed Automata with Clock-Dependent Probabilities
Probabilistic timed automata are classical timed automata extended with
discrete probability distributions over edges. We introduce clock-dependent
probabilistic timed automata, a variant of probabilistic timed automata in
which transition probabilities can depend linearly on clock values.
Clock-dependent probabilistic timed automata allow the modelling of a
continuous relationship between time passage and the likelihood of system
events. We show that the problem of deciding whether the maximum probability of
reaching a certain location is above a threshold is undecidable for
clock-dependent probabilistic timed automata. On the other hand, we show that
the maximum and minimum probability of reaching a certain location in
clock-dependent probabilistic timed automata can be approximated using a

Measurements of neutral vector resonance in Higgsless models at the LHC
In Higgsless models, new vector resonances appear to restore the unitarity of
the W_L W_L scattering amplitude without the Higgs boson. In the ideal
delocalized three site Higgsless model, one of large prodcution cross section
of the neutral vector resonance (Z') at the Large Hadron Collider is the
W-associated production, pp \to Z'W \to WWW. Although the dileptonic decay
channnel, l\nu l'\nu 'jj, is experimentally clean to search for the Z' signals,
it is difficult to reconstruct the Z' invariant mass due to the two neutrinos
in the final state. We study collider signatures of Z' using the
M_{T2}-Assisted On-Shell (MAOS) reconstruction of the missing neutrino momenta.
We show the prospect of the Z' mass determination in the channel, l\nu l'\nu

Topological phase diagram and saddle point singularity in a tunable topological crystalline insulator
We report the evolution of the surface electronic structure and surface
material properties of a topological crystalline insulator (TCI) Pb1-xSnxSe as
a function of various material parameters including composition x, temperature
T and crystal structure. Our spectroscopic data demonstrate the electronic
groundstate condition for the saddle point singularity, the tunability of
surface chemical potential, and the surface states' response to circularly
polarized light. Our results show that each material parameter can tune the
system between trivial and topological phase in a distinct way unlike as seen
in Bi2Se3 and related compounds, leading to a rich and unique topological phase
diagram. Our systematic studies of the TCI Pb1-xSnxSe are valuable materials

Radiative and non-radiative local density of states on disordered plasmonic films
We present numerical calculations of the Local Density of Optical States
(LDOS) in the near field of disordered plasmonic films. The calculations are
based on an integral volume method, that takes into account polarization and
retardation effects, and allows us to discriminate radiative and non-radiative
contributions to the LDOS. At short distance, the LDOS is dominated by
non-radiative channels, showing that changes in the spontaneous dynamics of
dipole emitters are driven by non-radiative coupling to plasmon modes. Maps of
radiative and non-radiative LDOS exhibit strong fluctuations, but with
substantially different spatial distributions
