Systematic investigation of channel coupling effects on elastic, inelastic and neutron transfer channels in Li+Tb
Elastic scattering angular distribution for weakly bound nucleus Li on
the deformed rare earth Tb target nucleus has been measured at energies
around the Coulomb barrier. The elastic scattering cross sections for this
reaction consist of inelastic contributions from low lying excited states of
Tb. The pure elastic cross-sections have been extracted from the
admixture of elastic and inelastic data. The optical model potential parameters
for the system have been obtained from the extracted pure elastic scattering
cross sections. Coupled channel calculations have been performed with this set
of potential parameters, to compare the theoretical and experimental inelastic
scattering cross sections. The work has been extended to obtain the
spectroscopic factor for Tb+n configuration from the experimental
1n-pickup data
Ultrahigh Energy Cosmic Rays and Prompt TeV Gamma Rays from Gamma Ray Bursts
Gamma Ray Bursts (GRBs) have been proposed as one {\it possible} class of
sources of the Ultrahigh Energy Cosmic Ray (UHECR) events observed up to
energies \gsim10^{20}\ev. The synchrotron radiation of the highest energy
protons accelerated within the GRB source should produce gamma rays up to TeV
energies. Here we briefly discuss the implications on the energetics of the GRB
from the point of view of the detectability of the prompt TeV gamma rays of
proton-synchrotron origin in GRBs in the up-coming ICECUBE muon detector in the

Neutrino Mixing and Neutrino Telescopes
Measuring flux ratios of ultra-high energy neutrinos is an alternative method
to determine the neutrino mixing angles and the CP phase delta. We conduct a
systematic analysis of the neutrino mixing probabilities and of various flux
ratios measurable at neutrino telescopes. The considered cases are neutrinos
from pion, neutron and muon-damped sources. Explicit formulae in case of mu-tau
symmetry and its special case tri-bimaximal mixing are obtained, and the
leading corrections due to non-zero theta_{13} and non-maximal theta_{23} are
given. The first order correction is universal as it appears in basically all
ratios. We study in detail its dependence on theta_{13}, theta_{23} and the CP
phase, finding that the dependence on theta_{23} is strongest. The flavor
compositions for the considered neutrino sources are evaluated in terms of this
correction. A measurement of a flux ratio is a clean measurement of the
universal correction (and therefore of theta_{13}, theta_{23} and delta) if the
zeroth order ratio does not depend on theta_{12}. This favors pion sources over
the other cases, which in turn are good candidates to probe theta_{12}. The
only situations in which the universal correction does not appear are certain
ratios in case of a neutron and muon-damped source, which depend mainly on
theta_{12} and receive only quadratic corrections from the other parameters. We
further show that there are only two independent neutrino oscillation
probabilities, give the allowed ranges of the considered flux ratios and of all
probabilities, and show that none of the latter can be zero or one.Comment: 29 pages, 8 figures. Minor changes, to appear in JCA
Scintillation Counters for the D0 Muon Upgrade
We present the results of an upgrade to the D0 muon system. Scintillating
counters have been added to the existing central D0 muon system to provide
rejection for cosmic ray muons and out-of-time background, and to provide
additional fast timing information for muons in an upgraded Tevatron.
Performance and results from the 1994-1996 Tevatron run are presented.Comment: 30 pages, 25 postscript figure
Neutrino Detection with Inclined Air Showers
The possibilities of detecting high energy neutrinos through inclined showers
produced in the atmosphere are addressed with an emphasis on the detection of
air showers by arrays of particle detectors. Rates of inclined showers produced
by both down-going neutrino interactions and by up-coming decays from
earth-skimming neutrinos as a function of shower energy are calculated with
analytical methods using two sample neutrino fluxes with different spectral
indices. The relative contributions from different flavors and charged, neutral
current and resonant interactions are compared for down-going neutrinos
interacting in the atmosphere. No detailed description of detectors is
attempted but rough energy thresholds are implemented to establish the ranges
of energies which are more suitable for neutrino detection through inclined

Search for bottom squarks in pbarp collisions at sqrt(s)=1.8 TeV
We report on a search for bottom squarks produced in pbarp collisions at
sqrt(s) = 1.8 TeV using the D0 detector at Fermilab. Bottom squarks are assumed
to be produced in pairs and to decay to the lightest supersymmetric particle
(LSP) and a b quark with branching fraction of 100%. The LSP is assumed to be
the lightest neutralino and stable. We set limits on the production cross

Differential Production Cross Section of Z Bosons as a Function of Transverse Momentum at sqrt{s}=1.8 TeV
We present a measurement of the transverse momentum distribution of Z bosons
produced in ppbar collisions at sqrt{s}=1.8 TeV using data collected by the D0
experiment at the Fermilab Tevatron Collider during 1994--1996. We find good
agreement between our data and a current resummation calculation. We also use
our data to extract values of the non-perturbative parameters for a particular
version of the resummation formalism, obtaining significantly more precise

Search for Electroweak Production of Single Top Quarks in ppbar Collisions
We present a search for electroweak production of single top quarks in the
electron+jets and muon+jets decay channels. The measurements use ~90 pb^-1 of
data from Run 1 of the Fermilab Tevatron collider, collected at 1.8 TeV with
the DZero detector between 1992 and 1995. We use events that include a tagging
muon, implying the presence of a b jet, to set an upper limit at the 95%
confidence level on the cross section for the s-channel process ppbar->tb+X of

Search for Squarks and Gluinos in Events Containing Jets and a Large Imbalance in Transverse Energy
Using data corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 79 pb-1, D0 has
searched for events containing multiple jets and large missing transverse
energy in pbar-p collisions at sqrt(s)=1.8 TeV at the Fermilab Tevatron
collider. Observing no significant excess beyond what is expected from the
standard model, we set limits on the masses of squarks and gluinos and on the
model parameters m_0 and m_1/2, in the framework of the minimal low-energy
supergravity models of supersymmetry. For tan(beta) = 2 and A_0 = 0, with mu <
0, we exclude all models with m_squark < 250 GeV/c^2. For models with equal

Search for a Fourth Generation Charge -1/3 Quark via Flavor Changing Neutral Current Decay
We report on a search for pair production of a fourth generation charge -1/3
quark (b') in pbar p collisions at sqrt(s) = 1.8 TeV at the Fermilab Tevatron
using an integrated luminosity of 93 pb^-1. Both quarks are assumed to decay
via flavor changing neutral currents (FCNC). The search uses the signatures
gamma + 3 jets + mu-tag and 2 gamma + 2 jets. We see no significant excess of
events over the expected background. We place an upper limit on the production
cross section times branching fraction that is well below theoretical
expectations for a b' quark decaying exclusively via FCNC for b' quark masses
