    Pediatric Rotavirus Gastroenteritis: A 2 year Analysis to Understand Current Prevalence in Mumbai

    Many studies have established the high prevalence of paediatric Rotavirus gastroenteritis in India. The importance of rapid diagnosis of rotavirus infection has also been stressed upon, to initiate prompt rehydration therapy and prevent unnecessary use of antibiotics .We undertook a retrospective analysis of 327 paediatric stool specimens to understand the current prevalence and seasonal distribution of cases in Mumbai and its surrounding areas. Overall Rotavirus positivity rate was 37.9 %, with peak positivity in winter seasons. Infections were more common upto 2 years of age. Incidence of bacterial and parasitic coinfections was low

    The absorption coefficient for the free-bound transition H (ls) + e(-)+ h omega yields H(-)(2 sq p,(3)P(e)) is calculated (together with the differential emission rate for the inverse process) using ls - 2s - 2p close coupling continuum wave functions and a Hylleraas bound state wave function. A maximum in the absorption and emission spectra is found to occur at a photon wavelength of 1219.5 A, which is 2 A closer to the Lyman alpha line than predicted by the calculations of Drake, and is in closer agreement with the stellar absorption feature identified by Heap and Stecher. The free-bound absorption process appears to be a significant source of continuous ultraviolet opacity

    Unconventional domain wall magnetoresistance of patterned Ni/Nb bilayer structures below superconducting transition temperature of Nb

    Scattering of spin-up and spin-down electrons while passing through a ferromagnetic domain wall leads to an additional resistance for transport current, usually observed prominently in constricted magnetic structures. In this report, we use the resistance of the domain wall as a probe to find indirect signatures of the theoretically predicted spin-singlet supercurrent to spin-triplet supercurrent conversion effect of ferromagnetic domain walls. Here we examine the domain wall induced resistance in Ni stripe in a bilayer Ni/Nb geometry in the normal state and in the superconducting state of Nb. By making a 6um wide gap in the top Nb layer we routed the transport current through the Ni layer in the normal state and in the superconducting state of Nb. In the normal state of Nb, in-field transport measurements showed a clear domain wall magneto-resistance (DWMR) peak near the coercive field, where the domain wall density is expected to be maximum. Interestingly, however, below the superconducting transition temperature of Nb, the DWMR peak of the Ni layer showed a sharp drop in the field range where the number of domain walls becomes maximum. This observation may be a possible signature of magnetic domain wall induced spin-triplet correlations in the Ni layer due to the direct injection of spin-singlet Cooper pairs from Nb into the magnetic domain walls

    Unusual site metastasis as presenting complaint of renal cell carcinoma (RCC) has been reported previously in literature. RCC is a notorious tumor with unpredictable behavior. We present a case of RCC who presented with scrotal mass and on subsequent investigation was found to have metastasis to scrotum and spermatic cord. Both testes were normal with no evidence of metastasis

    Transport and magnetic Jc of MgB2 strands and small helical coils

    The critical current densities of MgB2 monofilamentary strands with and without SiC additions were measured at 4.2 K. Additionally, magnetic Jc at B = 1 T was measured from 4.2 K to 40 K. Various heat treatment times and temperatures were investigated for both short samples and small helical coils. SiC additions were seen to improve high field transport Jc at 4.2 K, but improvements were not evident at 1 T at any temperature. Transport results were relatively insensitive to heat treatment times and temperatures for both short samples and coils in the 700C to 900C range.Comment: 8 text pages, 1 table, 4 fig

    A prospective study of risk factors and feto-maternal outcome of preterm labor in OG department of tertiary care centre of South Gujarat

    Background: Every year globally, an estimated 15 million babies are born preterm and this number is rising over major parts of the world. Severe morbidity is common in neonates born before 32-34 weeks of gestation. Management of prematurity is a team approach by the obstetrician and the pediatrician. Methods: This prospective observational study was conducted in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, NCH, Surat from October 2019 to October 2020. 120 consenting consecutive subjects fulfilling inclusion criteria were enrolled. Results: The most common risk factor for preterm labor in my study was PPROM (premature rupture of membranes). 27% subjects were diagnosed with threatened preterm labor. 22% subjects delivered preterm due to advanced labor. Labor arrest with tocolytic drug nifedipine was attempted in 30 subjects without any complications, which was successful in 19 subjects. The most common maternal complication in preterm labor was postpartum hemorrhage. All neonates were admitted to NICU, amongst them 45 developed complications. The most common complication in preterm neonates was respiratory distress. The rate of early neonatal death was 6.6%. Conclusions: Inspite of advances in antenatal care and neonatal services, preterm birth remains a burden to families. Strengthening of referral systems to make sure that high risk patients are managed at tertiary care centers with NICU facilities will improve the neonatal outcome
