Pneumothorax and Pneumomediastinum in a Sputum Positive Tuberculosis Patient: The Continuous Diaphragm Sign
Secondary pneumothorax is a very common medical emergency. At times it is associated with pneumomediastinum, which could be fatal at times if not identified. We present a case of a 11 years old sputum positive child who presented with both these conditions and was diagnosed on chest x ray
Renal Cell Carcinoma Presenting as Metastasis to Scrotum and Spermatic Cord
Unusual site metastasis as presenting complaint of renal cell carcinoma (RCC) has been reported previously in literature. RCC is a notorious tumor with unpredictable behavior. We present a case of RCC who presented with scrotal mass and on subsequent investigation was found to have metastasis to scrotum and spermatic cord. Both testes were normal with no evidence of metastasis
Catalytic cracking of palm oil over zeolite catalysts: Statistical approach
The catalytic cracking of palm oil was
conducted in a fixed bed micro-reactor over HZSM-5,
zeolite and ultrastable Y (USY) zeolite catalysts. The
objective of the present investigation was to study the
effect of cracking reaction variables such as
temperature, weight hourly space velocity, catalyst pore
size and type of palm oil feed of different molecular
weight on the conversion, yield of hydrocarbons in
gasoline boiling range and BTX aromatics in the
organic liquid product. Statistical Design of Experiment
(DOE) with 24 full factorial design was used in
experimentation at the first stage. The nonlinear model
and Response Surface Methodology (RSM) were
utilized in the second stage of experimentation to obtain
the optimum values of the variables for maximum yields
of hydrocarbons in gasoline boiling range and
aromatics. The HZSM-5 showed the best performance
amongst the three catalysts tested. At 623 K and
WHSV of 1 h-1, the highest experimental yields of
gasoline and aromatics were 28.3 wt.% and 27 wt.%,
respectively over the HZSM-5 catalyst. For the same
catalyst, the statistical model predicted that the optimum
yield of gasoline was 28.1 wt.% at WHSV of 1.75 h-1
and 623 K. The predicted optimum yield of gasoline
was 25.5 wt.% at 623 K and WHSV of 1 h-1
Entanglement of pure states for a single copy
An optimal local conversion strategy between any two pure states of a
bipartite system is presented. It is optimal in that the probability of success
is the largest achievable if the parties which share the system, and which can
communicate classically, are only allowed to act locally on it. The study of
optimal local conversions sheds some light on the entanglement of a single copy
of a pure state. We propose a quantification of such an entanglement by means
of a finite minimal set of new measures from which the optimal probability of
conversion follows.Comment: Revtex, 4 pages, no figures. Minor changes. Appendix remove
Extremal extensions of entanglement witnesses: Unearthing new bound entangled states
In this paper, we discuss extremal extensions of entanglement witnesses based
on Choi's map. The constructions are based on a generalization of the Choi map
due to Osaka, from which we construct entanglement witnesses. These extremal
extensions are powerful in terms of their capacity to detect entanglement of
positive under partial transpose (PPT) entangled states and lead to unearthing
of entanglement of new PPT states. We also use the Cholesky-like decomposition
to construct entangled states which are revealed by these extremal entanglement
witnesses.Comment: 8 pages 6 figures revtex4-
Developing a child patient satisfaction survey: a quality improvement project
AIM: To develop a child-centred patient satisfaction questionnaire for use in an Outpatient Paediatric Dental Department. METHOD: Data from patient satisfaction interviews was used to develop a child satisfaction questionnaire, which was used in two different centres after piloting. RESULTS: The final questionnaire contained 7 questions and a comments section, using writing and facial images used to record children views. The questionnaire was distributed to 203 children; 95% were happy or okay with the waiting area, 69% were happy about seeing the dentist and 77% children were happy overall. CONCLUSION: Measures of satisfaction of children with regard to dental treatment were very different from those commonly used for adults. Further development and implementation of child satisfaction surveys should be considered
Multiplicativity of maximal output purities of Gaussian channels under Gaussian inputs
We address the question of the multiplicativity of the maximal p-norm output
purities of bosonic Gaussian channels under Gaussian inputs. We focus on
general Gaussian channels resulting from the reduction of unitary dynamics in
larger Hilbert spaces. It is shown that the maximal output purity of tensor
products of single-mode channels under Gaussian inputs is multiplicative for
any p>1 for products of arbitrary identical channels as well as for a large
class of products of different channels. In the case of p=2 multiplicativity is
shown to be true for arbitrary products of generic channels acting on any
number of modes.Comment: 9 page
