Heat Transfer in a Second Order Fluid with Suction and Constant Heat Sources

    Get PDF
The heat transfer in the laminar boundary layer due to the flow of a second order fluid over a flat plate subjected to suction in the presence of constant heat sources has been discussed. The solution of the problem is sought by expanding the flow and temperature functions in powers of 1/λ, λ being the suction parameter. Besides other results it is interesting to observe that an increase in elasticoviscous parameter, γ,decreases the temperature near the plate irrespective of suction

Developing a child patient satisfaction survey: a quality improvement project

AIM: To develop a child-centred patient satisfaction questionnaire for use in an Outpatient Paediatric Dental Department. METHOD: Data from patient satisfaction interviews was used to develop a child satisfaction questionnaire, which was used in two different centres after piloting. RESULTS: The final questionnaire contained 7 questions and a comments section, using writing and facial images used to record children views. The questionnaire was distributed to 203 children; 95% were happy or okay with the waiting area, 69% were happy about seeing the dentist and 77% children were happy overall. CONCLUSION: Measures of satisfaction of children with regard to dental treatment were very different from those commonly used for adults. Further development and implementation of child satisfaction surveys should be considered

Pneumothorax and Pneumomediastinum in a Sputum Positive Tuberculosis Patient: The Continuous Diaphragm Sign

Secondary pneumothorax is a very common medical emergency. At times it is associated with pneumomediastinum, which could be fatal at times if not identified. We present a case of a 11 years old sputum positive child who presented with both these conditions and was diagnosed on chest x ray

Renal Cell Carcinoma Presenting as Metastasis to Scrotum and Spermatic Cord

Unusual site metastasis as presenting complaint of renal cell carcinoma (RCC) has been reported previously in literature. RCC is a notorious tumor with unpredictable behavior. We present a case of RCC who presented with scrotal mass and on subsequent investigation was found to have metastasis to scrotum and spermatic cord. Both testes were normal with no evidence of metastasis

Subsidence Affects Due to Gypsum Solution in Syracuse, New York

    Get PDF
Two apartment buildings owned by Syracuse University in the Slocum Heights area underwent extensive differential settlement manifested by foundation cracks. Examination of rock exposures in the nearby area revealed the presence of gypsum beds. Onsite boring and investigation revealed that regrading and installation of french drains and storm sewers influenced the groundwater regime resulting in solutioning of the gypsum and subsequent collapse of underground cavities. Remedial measures included alteration of drainage system and underpinning of apartment structures

Synthesis of Cyclotetramethlene Tetranitramine by Three Stage

    Get PDF
A three stage method has been developed for the preparation of cyclotetramethylene tetranitramine (HMX) at 45+- 3 degree centigrade. Hexamine was nitrated to 1,5 methylene-3,7 dinitro-1,3,5,7 tetra aza cyclo octane (DPT) in acetic anhydride and acetic acid ammonium nitrate -nitric acid mixture in presence of BF/sub3/ as catalyst, DPT along with reaction mixture was further treated with excess of nitric acid and acetic anhydride in the second stage. The product so obtained was converted into HMX in third stage treating with ammonium nitrate-nitric acid mixture and acetic anhydride. Effect of various concentration of ammonium nitrate, nitric acid and acetic anhydride was also studied on the yield of HMX in final stage
