Vacuum polarization induced by a cylindrical boundary in the cosmic string spacetime

In this paper we investigate the Wightman function, the renormalized vacuum expectation values of the field square, and the energy-momentum tensor for a massive scalar field with general curvature coupling inside and outside of a cylindrical shell in the generalized spacetime of straight cosmic string. For the general case of Robin boundary condition, by using the generalized Abel-Plana formula, the vacuum expectation values are presented in the form of the sum of boundary-free and boundary-induced parts. The asymptotic behavior of the vacuum expectation values of the field square, energy density and stresses are investigated in various limiting cases. The generalization of the results to the exterior region is given for a general cylindrically symmetric static model of the string core with finite support.Comment: 21 pages, 5 figure

[Estimated of biomass and CO2 equivalent by an agrosilvopastoral system: through the system dynamics]. Abstract: Agroforestry Systems (SAF) are shown as an alternative to social and economic consequences of human action on the environment. We sought to determine the dynamics of biomass production and the stock of CO2 equivalent in the SAF, in an area of "caatinga" biome in the state of Ceará. The study area comprised the SAF in Crioula farm, belonging to the National Research Center of Embrapa Goats, being situated in the municipality of Sobral - CE. It was used as a tool for developing the model the software Vensim. The simulations were based on the determination of option settings land uses (agricultural crops) and management of ?caatinga?. The results showed that the system was able to add income by selling agricultural products and the commercialization of CO2 equivalent if there were a specific market for this producer. The model developed for this research come from SAF was able to contribute to the research already carried out today as well as to the sustainability and viability of this model of production through diversification of activities and products, promoting a more harmonious income generation in time.Edição dos Resumos do VII Congresso Brasileiro de Agroecologia, Fortaleza, CE, 12 a 16 dez. 2011

New features of the thermal Casimir force at small separations

The difference of the thermal Casimir forces at different temperatures between real metals is shown to increase with a decrease of the separation distance. This opens new opportunities for the demonstration of the thermal dependence of the Casimir force. Both configurations of two parallel plates and a sphere above a plate are considered. Different approaches to the theoretical description of the thermal Casimir force are shown to lead to different measurable predictions.Comment: 5 pages, 3 figures, to appear in Phys. Rev. Let

On Matrix Superpotential and Three-Component Normal Modes

We consider the supersymmetric quantum mechanics (SUSY QM) with three- component normal modes for the Bogomol'nyi-Prasad-Sommerfield (BPS) states. An explicit form of the SUSY QM matrix superpotential is presented and the corresponding three-component bosonic zero-mode eigenfunction is investigated.Comment: 17 pages, no figure.
