Survey of Instantaneous 1-22 GHz Spectra of 550 Compact Extragalactic Objects with Declinations from -30deg to +43deg
We present observational results for extragalactic radio sources with
milliarcsecond components, obtained with the 600 meter ring radio telescope
RATAN-600 from 1st to 22nd December, 1997. For each source, a six frequency
broad band radio spectrum was obtained by observing simultaneously with an
accuracy up to a minute at 1.4, 2.7, 3.9, 7.7, 13 and 31 cm. The observed list
is selected from Preston et al. (1985) VLBI survey and contains all the sources
in the declinations between -30deg and +43deg with a correlated flux density
exceeding 0.1 Jy at 13 cm. The sample includes the majority of sources to be
studied in the current VSOP survey and the future RadioAstron Space VLBI
mission.Comment: 26 pages, 4 figures, 5 tables, published in the A&AS; figure 4 with

Distributed Intelligent MEMS: Progresses and Perspectives
International audienceMEMS research has until recently focused mainly on the engineering process, resulting in interesting products and a growing market. To fully realize the promise of MEMS, the next step is to add embedded intelligence. With embedded intelligence, the scalability of manufacturing will enable distributed MEMS systems consisting of thousands or millions of units which can work together to achieve a common goal. However, before such systems can become a reallity, we must come to grips with the challenge of scalability which will require paradigm-shifts both in hardware and software. Furthermore, the need for coordinated actuation, programming, communication and mobility management raises new challenges in both control and programming. The objective of this article is to report the progresses made by taking the example of two research projects and by giving the remaining challenges and the perspectives of distributed intelligent MEMS
Spherical Model in a Random Field
We investigate the properties of the Gibbs states and thermodynamic
observables of the spherical model in a random field. We show that on the
low-temperature critical line the magnetization of the model is not a
self-averaging observable, but it self-averages conditionally. We also show
that an arbitrarily weak homogeneous boundary field dominates over fluctuations
of the random field once the model transits into a ferromagnetic phase. As a
result, a homogeneous boundary field restores the conventional self-averaging
of thermodynamic observables, like the magnetization and the susceptibility. We
also investigate the effective field created at the sites of the lattice by the
random field, and show that at the critical temperature of the spherical model
the effective field undergoes a transition into a phase with long-range
correlations .Comment: 29 page
Exactly solvable model of a quantum spin glass
A mean field spherical model with random couplings between pairs, quartets,
and possibly higher multiplets of spins is considered. It has the same critical
behavior as the Sherrington-Kirkpatrick model. It thus exhibits replica
symmetry breaking. The order parameter function is solved exactly in the whole
low temperature phase. The zero field cooled susceptibility remains finite at
low . Next a quantum version of the system is considered. Whereas the
magnetic properties are not altered qualitatively, the thermodynamics is now
regular at small temperatures.Comment: 4 pages postscript. Revised version, to appear in Phys. Rev. Let
Polarised target for Drell-Yan experiment in COMPASS at CERN, part I
In the polarised Drell-Yan experiment at the COMPASS facility in CERN pion
beam with momentum of 190 GeV/c and intensity about pions/s interacted
with transversely polarised NH target. Muon pairs produced in Drel-Yan
process were detected. The measurement was done in 2015 as the 1st ever
polarised Drell-Yan fixed target experiment. The hydrogen nuclei in the
solid-state NH were polarised by dynamic nuclear polarisation in 2.5 T
field of large-acceptance superconducting magnet. Large helium dilution
cryostat was used to cool the target down below 100 mK. Polarisation of
hydrogen nuclei reached during the data taking was about 80 %. Two oppositely
polarised target cells, each 55 cm long and 4 cm in diameter were used.
Overview of COMPASS facility and the polarised target with emphasis on the
dilution cryostat and magnet is given. Results of the polarisation measurement
in the Drell-Yan run and overviews of the target material, cell and dynamic
nuclear polarisation system are given in the part II.Comment: 4 pages, 2 figures, Proceedings of the 22nd International Spin

Exact norm-conserving stochastic time-dependent Hartree-Fock
We derive an exact single-body decomposition of the time-dependent
Schroedinger equation for N pairwise-interacting fermions. Each fermion obeys a
stochastic time-dependent norm-preserving wave equation. As a first test of the
method we calculate the low energy spectrum of Helium. An extension of the
method to bosons is outlined.Comment: 21 pages, 3 figures, LaTeX fil
Solvable Kinetic Gaussian Model in External Field
In this paper, the single-spin transition dynamics is used to investigate the
kinetic Gaussian model in a periodic external field. We first derive the
fundamental dynamic equations, and then treat an isotropic d-dimensional
hypercubic lattice Gaussian spin system with Fourier's transformation method.
We obtain exactly the local magnetization and the equal-time pair correlation
function. The critical characteristics of the dynamical, the complex
susceptibility, and the dynamical response are discussed. The results show that
the time evolution of the dynamical quantities and the dynamical responses of
the system strongly depend on the frequency and the wave vector of the external
field.Comment: 11 page
Larotrectinib efficacy and safety in TRK fusion cancer: An expanded clinical dataset showing consistency in an age and tumor agnostic approach
Background: TRK fusion cancer results from gene fusions involving NTRK1, NTRK2 or NTRK3. Larotrectinib, the first selective TRK inhibitor, has demonstrated an overall response rate (ORR) of 75% with a favorable safety profile in the first 55 consecutively enrolled adult and pediatric patients with TRK fusion cancer (Drilon et al.,NEJM2018). Here, we report the clinical activity of larotrectinib in an additional 35 TRK fusion cancer patients and provide updated follow-up of the primary analysis set (PAS) of 55 patients as of 19thFeb 2018. Methods: Patients with TRK fusion cancer detected by molecular profiling from 3 larotrectinib clinical trials (NCT02122913, NCT02637687, and NCT02576431) were eligible.Larotrectinib was administered until disease progression, withdrawal, or unacceptable toxicity. Disease status was assessed using RECIST version 1.1. Results: As of Feb 2018, by independent review, 6 PRs in the PAS deepened to CRs. The median duration of response (DoR) and progression-free survival in the PAS had still not been reached, with 12.9 months median follow-up. At 1 year, 69% of responses were ongoing, 58% of patients remained progression-free and 90% of patients were alive. An additional 19 children and 25 adults (age range, 0.1-78 years) with TRK fusion cancer were enrolled after the PAS, and included cancers of the salivary gland, thyroid, lung, colon, melanoma, sarcoma, GIST and congenital mesoblastic nephroma. In 35 evaluable patients, the ORR by investigator assessment was 74% (5 CR, 21 PR, 6 SD, 2 PD, 1 not determined). In these patients, with median follow-up of 5.5 months, median DoR had not yet been reached, and 88% of responses were ongoing at 6 months, consistent with the PAS. Adverse events (AEs) were predominantly grade 1, with dizziness, increased AST/ALT, fatigue, nausea and constipation the most common AEs reported in ≥ 10% of patients. No AE of grade 3 or 4 related to larotrectinib occurred in more than 5% of patients. Conclusions: TRK fusions are detected in a broad range of tumor types. Larotrectinib is an effective age- and tumor-agnostic treatment for TRK fusion cancer with a positive safety profile. Screening patients for NTRK gene fusions in solid- and brain tumors should be actively considered
Experimental plug&play quantum coin flipping
Performing complex cryptographic tasks will be an essential element in future
quantum communication networks. These tasks are based on a handful of
fundamental primitives, such as coin flipping, where two distrustful parties
wish to agree on a randomly generated bit. Although it is known that quantum
versions of these primitives can offer information-theoretic security
advantages with respect to classical protocols, a demonstration of such an
advantage in a practical communication scenario has remained elusive. Here, we
experimentally implement a quantum coin flipping protocol that performs
strictly better than classically possible over a distance suitable for
communication over metropolitan area optical networks. The implementation is
based on a practical plug&play system, designed for quantum key distribution.
We also show how to combine our protocol with coin flipping protocols that are
almost perfectly secure against bounded adversaries, hence enhancing them with
a level of information-theoretic security. Our results offer a powerful toolbox
for future secure quantum communications.Comment: Version 2, 19 pages including detailed security analysi
Quantum critical point and scaling in a layered array of ultrasmall Josephson junctions
We have studied a quantum Hamiltonian that models an array of ultrasmall
Josephson junctions with short range Josephson couplings, , and charging
energies, , due to the small capacitance of the junctions. We derive a new
effective quantum spherical model for the array Hamiltonian. As an application
we start by approximating the capacitance matrix by its self-capacitive limit
and in the presence of an external uniform background of charges, . In
this limit we obtain the zero-temperature superconductor-insulator phase
diagram, , that improves upon previous theoretical
results that used a mean field theory approximation. Next we obtain a
closed-form expression for the conductivity of a square array, and derive a
universal scaling relation valid about the zero--temperature quantum critical
point. In the latter regime the energy scale is determined by temperature and
we establish universal scaling forms for the frequency dependence of the
conductivity.Comment: 18 pages, four Postscript figures, REVTEX style, Physical Review B
