Distinguishing multi-partite states by local measurements
We analyze the distinguishability norm on the states of a multi-partite
system, defined by local measurements. Concretely, we show that the norm
associated to a tensor product of sufficiently symmetric measurements is
essentially equivalent to a multi-partite generalisation of the non-commutative
2-norm (aka Hilbert-Schmidt norm): in comparing the two, the constants of
domination depend only on the number of parties but not on the Hilbert spaces
dimensions.
We discuss implications of this result on the corresponding norms for the
class of all measurements implementable by local operations and classical
communication (LOCC), and in particular on the leading order optimality of

Seasonal variation in mycoflora associated with asymptomatic maize grain from small-holder farms in two provinces of South Africa
Seed quality plays an important role in the establishment of healthy crop stands. The aim of this study was to identify the mycoflora associated with maize grain collected over two growing seasons, one experiencing severe drought, from small-holder farms across KwaZulu-Natal (KZN) and the Eastern Cape (EC), two important provinces with maize producing small-holder farmers in South Africa. Asymptomatic maize ears were collected at harvest during two maize growing seasons from farms located in Hlanganani (KZN), Ntabamhlophe (KZN), KwaNxamalala (KZN), Bizana (EC) and Tabankulu (EC). Maize grain was subjected to seed health tests using the agar plate method. The percentage incidence of fungal species isolated from maize grain was determined with species identities confirmed by ITS sequencing. Nine fungal genera were identified with Fusarium species and Stenocarpella maydis the most prevalent. Fusarium verticillioides, Fusarium graminearum and S. maydis were isolated from all sites in both seasons. No fungal species exhibited a higher incidence in the drought season across all sites. F. graminearum and S. maydis had higher incidences in the wetter season at four and three sites, respectively. F. verticillioides had a greater incidence at the EC sites, particularly the coastal Bizana site. We conclude that local factors have a greater impact than the drought season on the population structure of ear-rot pathogens. The widespread presence of fungi that are potentially mycotoxin-producing in asymptomatic maize grain poses health risks to consumers and is worthy of further investigation

Irreducible holonomy algebras of Riemannian supermanifolds
Possible irreducible holonomy algebras \g\subset\osp(p,q|2m) of Riemannian
supermanifolds under the assumption that \g is a direct sum of simple Lie
superalgebras of classical type and possibly of a one-dimensional center are

Magnetic Reversal on Vicinal Surfaces
We present a theoretical study of in-plane magnetization reversal for vicinal
ultrathin films using a one-dimensional micromagnetic model with
nearest-neighbor exchange, four-fold anisotropy at all sites, and two-fold
anisotropy at step edges. A detailed "phase diagram" is presented that catalogs
the possible shapes of hysteresis loops and reversal mechanisms as a function
of step anisotropy strength and vicinal terrace length. The steps generically
nucleate magnetization reversal and pin the motion of domain walls. No sharp
transition separates the cases of reversal by coherent rotation and reversal by
depinning of a ninety degree domain wall from the steps. Comparison to

Leptogenesis and Low-energy Observables
We relate leptogenesis in a class of theories to low-energy experimental
observables: quark and lepton masses and mixings. With reasonable assumptions
motivated by grand unification, one can show that the CP-asymmetry parameter
takes a universal form. Furthermore the dilution mass is related to the light
neutrino masses. Overall, these models offer a natural explanation for a lepton

Stokes Diagnostis of 2D MHD-simulated Solar Magnetogranulation
We study the properties of solar magnetic fields on scales less than the
spatial resolution of solar telescopes. A synthetic infrared
spectropolarimetric diagnostics based on a 2D MHD simulation of
magnetoconvection is used for this. We analyze two time sequences of snapshots
that likely represent two regions of the network fields with their immediate
surrounding on the solar surface with the unsigned magnetic flux density of 300
and 140 G. In the first region we find from probability density functions of
the magnetic field strength that the most probable field strength at logtau_5=0
is equal to 250 G. Weak fields (B < 500 G) occupy about 70% of the surface,
while stronger fields (B 1000 G) occupy only 9.7% of the surface. The magnetic
flux is -28 G and its imbalance is -0.04. In the second region, these
parameters are correspondingly equal to 150 G, 93.3 %, 0.3 %, -40 G, and -0.10.
We estimate the distribution of line-of-sight velocities on the surface of log
tau_5=-1. The mean velocity is equal to 0.4 km/s in the first simulated region.
The averaged velocity in the granules is -1.2 km/s and in the intergranules is
2.5 km/s. In the second region, the corresponding values of the mean velocities
are equal to 0, -1.8, 1.5 km/s. In addition we analyze the asymmetry of
synthetic Stokes-V profiles of the Fe I 1564.8 nm line. The mean values of the
amplitude and area asymmetry do not exceed 1%. The spatially smoothed amplitude
asymmetry is increased to 10% while the area asymmetry is only slightly varied.Comment: 24 pages, 12 figure
Non-perturbative effects and the resummed Higgs transverse momentum distribution at the LHC
We investigate the form of the non-perturbative parameterization in both the
impact parameter (b) space and transverse momentum (p_T) space resummation
formalisms for the transverse momentum distribution of single massive bosons
produced at hadron colliders. We propose to analyse data on Upsilon
hadroproduction as a means of studying the non-perturbative contribution in
processes with two gluons in the initial state. We also discuss the theoretical
errors on the resummed Higgs transverse momentum distribution at the LHC
arising from the non-perturbative contribution.Comment: 22 pages, 10 figure
Leptogenesis and low energy observables in left-right symmetric models
In the context of left-right symmetric models we study the connection of
leptogenesis and low energy parameters such as neutrinoless double beta decay
and leptonic CP violation. Upon imposition of a unitarity constraint, the
neutrino parameters are significantly restricted and the Majorana phases are
determined within a narrow range, depending on the kind of solar solution. One
of the Majorana phases gets determined to a good accuracy and thereby the
second phase can be probed from the results of neutrinoless double beta decay
experiments. We examine the contributions of the solar and atmospheric mass
squared differences to the asymmetry and find that in general the solar scale
dominates. In order to let the atmospheric scale dominate, some finetuning
between one of the Majorana phases and the Dirac CP phase is required. In this
case, one of the Majorana phases is determined by the amount of CP violation in
