    Holonomy groups of pseudo-quaternionic-K\"ahlerian manifolds of non-zero scalar curvature

    The holonomy group GG of a pseudo-quaternionic-K\"ahlerian manifold of signature (4r,4s)(4r,4s) with non-zero scalar curvature is contained in \Sp(1)\cdot\Sp(r,s) and it contains \Sp(1). It is proved that either GG is irreducible, or s=rs=r and GG preserves an isotropic subspace of dimension 4r4r, in the last case, there are only two possibilities for the connected component of the identity of such GG. Our approach addresses confidence estimation as a classification problem where a confidence score is to be predicted from a feature vector that represents each translated word. We describe a new set of prediction features designed to capture context information, and propose a model based on partial least squares to perform the classification.     Superconducting thin-film rings smaller than the film penetration depth (the Pearl length) are considered. The current distribution, magnetic moment, and thermodynamic potential F(H,N,v){\cal F}(H,N,v) for a flat, washer-shaped annular ring in a uniform applied field HH perpendicular to the film are solved analytically within the London approach for a state with winding number NN and a vortex at radius vv between the inner and outer radii.Comment: Submitted to Phys.     Thermal shape fluctuation effects in the description of hot nuclei

    The behavior of several nuclear properties with temperature is analyzed within the framework of the Finite Temperature Hartree-Fock-Bogoliubov (FTHFB) theory with the Gogny force and large configuration spaces. Thermal shape fluctuations in the quadrupole degree of freedom, around the mean field solution, are taken into account with the Landau prescription. As representative examples the nuclei 164^{164}Er, 152^{152}Dy and 192^{192}Hg are studied. Numerical results for the superfluid to normal and deformed to spherical shape transitions are presented. We found a substantial effect of the fluctuations on the average value of several observables. In particular, we get a decrease in the critical temperature (TcT_c) for the shape transition as compared with the plain FTHFB prediction as well as a washing out of the shape transition signatures. The new values of TcT_c are closer to the ones found in Strutinsky calculations and with the Pairing Plus Quadrupole model Hamiltonian.Comment: 17 pages, 8 Figure

    International audienceWe report a comprehensive study of the paradigmatic quasi-1D compound (TaSe4)(2)I performed by means of angle-resolved photoemission spectroscopy (ARPES) and first-principles electronic structure calculations. We find it to be a zero-gap semiconductor in the nondistorted structure, with non-negligible interchain coupling. Theory and experiment support a Peierls-like scenario for the charge-density wave formation below T-CDW = 263 K, where the incommensurability is a direct consequence of the finite interchain coupling. The formation of small polarons, strongly suggested by the ARPES data, explains the puzzling semiconductor-to-semiconductor transition observed in transport at T-CDW

    Closed forms and multi-moment maps

    We extend the notion of multi-moment map to geometries defined by closed forms of arbitrary degree. We give fundamental existence and uniqueness results and discuss a number of essential examples, including geometries related to special holonomy. For forms of degree four, multi-moment maps are guaranteed to exist and are unique when the symmetry group is (3,4)-trivial, meaning that the group is connected and the third and fourth Lie algebra Betti numbers vanish. We give a structural description of some classes of (3,4)-trivial algebras and provide a number of examples.Comment: 36 page
