Seasoned with Salt: An Exploration of the Teaching Techniques of the Master Teacher, Jesus Christ, to Determine Their Correlation with a Variety of Individual Learning Styles

A comprehensive examination of each of the four Gospels was utilized to perform an historical analysis of the teaching techniques of Jesus Christ for insights into student application in the teaching/learning process of contemporary Christian education. The objective of this exploration was to ascertain if Jesus used the necessary variety of instructional methods to meet the perceptive requirements of every learning style as defined by the Visual/Auditory/Read-Write/Kinesthetic (VARK) Learning Style model. Each event and circumstance in the life of Christ was then classified using the VARK rubric. Out of 71 extant learning style models, of which seven representing the more widely-known systems are discussed in some depth, VARK was chosen as the principal investigatory paradigm, as its definitive learning preference categories and their corresponding didactic techniques can still be readily discerned through biblical narratives exclusive of the need for individual, personalized assessments-- now impossible to obtain at the remove of over two centuries. Throughout history, Christ has been hailed as a Master Teacher, even by those who do not accept His deity. This research has determined that the teaching practices of the Master Teacher did meet the learning style preferences of individuals in each category of learner. Thus those of us who do worship Him as the sinless Son of God, who follow His perfect model and teach in His Name, must likewise seek to incorporate and employ His entire repertoire of instructional techniques into our personal methodologies in order to successfully meet all our pupils’ learning style needs

Senior Students\u27 Experiences, Perspectives, and Attitudes of Technological Competencies in Nursing Education

Technological standards appear to be needed in undergraduate nursing education, as existing research has yet to establish technological standards for undergraduate nursing students. The purpose of this qualitative study was to examine the lived experiences of senior nursing students with respect to their perceptions regarding exposure to and abilities gained in the areas of information management, information literacy, and computer literacy. The framework of the study was based on Bandura\u27s theory of self-efficacy and the Dreyfus model of skills acquisition. Using a phenomenological approach, in-depth face-to-face interviews were used with a purposive sample to collect data about the technological competencies taught to 12 participants during their nursing education. The key research questions pertained to senior-level nursing students\u27 perceptions regarding their educational exposure to technological skills, the level of competencies achieved, and technology\u27s impact on patient care. A thematic analysis was done. The findings from this research study are that students\u27 technological exposure appears to vary and that there is a need for uniform exposure during their nursing education. The results of this research revealed that most students were confident about computer literacy but needed to strengthen their knowledge related to information management and information literacy. Implications for social change is a better understanding of technological competencies offered, or still needing to be included, in undergraduate nursing syllabi. Further positive social change implications of the study for health services include the promotion of clear technological graduation standards for nursing graduates entering the health care workforce

The Impact of the Structure, Function, and Resources of the Campus Security Office on Campus Safety

The topic of this dissertation is college and university safety. This national quantitative study utilized resource dependency theory to examine relationships between the incidence of reported campus crimes and the structure, function, and resources of campus security offices. This study uncovered a difference in reported total crime rates, violent crime rates, and non-violent crime rates for colleges with police officers, internal security, contract security, hybrid departments, and no security office. This study examined the combination of institutional characteristics which best explain the occurrence of total campus crime, violent crime, and non-violent crime on campus. Two forms of data collection were used. Data collection includes the use of a web based survey to determine the structure, function, and resources of selected campus security offices. Additionally, secondary data was extracted from the publicly accessible annual campus security reports submitted to the U.S. Department of Education. Analysis of variance tests found differences between campus security offices, and multivariate linear regression examined the influence of structure, function, and resources of the campus security office on campus crime rates. This study analyzed the statistical relationships between reported crime statistics and the structure, function, and resources available to colleges with campus police departments, internal security, contract security departments, hybrid security office, and no formal security office
