Le chemin de Max Schoendorff et le mien ne se ressemblent apparemment guère. Après nous être entr’aperçus à Toulouse, du temps du compagnonnage de Max avec Jacques Rosner, notre amitié s’est tissée, à partir de mon arrivée à Lyon, au tout début des années 1990. J’ai d’abord rencontré l’homme des livres, qu’il cherchait sans relâche, chez les libraires, les bouquini..

John Cheever et le récit excentrique : du déplacement comme placement.

This paper examines three instances of narrative eccentricity in Cheever 's fiction. Grounded on a close reading and analysis of excerpts from "The Death of Justina", The Wapshot Chronicle and Falconer, it argues that, instead of being treated as superfluous outgrowths and unnecessary deviations, the quirks of the narrative should be viewed as fruitful margins in which, thanks to a dreamlike process of displacement, the text reveals its latent contents.Beghain Véronique. «To retain the slight veil of the original tongue» : traduction et esthétique du voile dans Villette de Charlotte Brontë

The scenes involving the reading and/or translation of letters in Villette testify to a vision of literalness as essentially tied to duality — a duality of which translation thus appears as mere actualization. Now, translation is at the heart of this truly bilingual novel which has as its narrator a regular translator who privileges what Berman calls «l'Étranger». While a recurring metaphor, veils are stylistically and linguistically present under the guise of French words, sentences and dialogues, which partake of an aesthetics of veiling entailing a vision of translation not as the discovery of meaning, but rather as marked with Derrida’s double bind, which «indebts [writing] in advance, eternally, towards any reader or translator».Les scènes de lecture et / ou traduction de lettres font émerger dans Villette une conception du littéral qui le montre essentiellement lié à la dualité — dualité dont la traduction n’apparaît plus dès lors que comme l’un des modes d’actualisation. Or, la traduction est au cœur de ce roman véritablement bilingue dont la narratrice, qui se fait fréquemment traductrice, privilégie ce que Berman appelle «l’Étranger». Le voile, métaphore récurrente, y est ainsi linguistiquement et stylistiquement présent sous les dehors de mots, phrases et dialogues en français, qui participent d’une esthétique du voile situant la traduction, non dans la perspective d’une découverte du sens, mais plutôt dans celle naguère tracée par Derrida d’un «double bind», qui «endette [l’écriture] d’avance, éternellement, envers tout lecteur et tout traducteur».Beghain Véronique. «To retain the slight veil of the original tongue» : traduction et esthétique du voile dans Villette de Charlotte Brontë. Genome-wide linkage disequilibrium in the Blonde d'Aquitaine cattle breed

Chantier qualité GAWe present here the first genome-wide characterization of linkage disequilibrium (LD) in the French Blonde d'Aquitaine (BLA) breed, a well-muscled breed renowned for producing high-yielding beef carcasses. To assess the pattern and extent of LD, we used a sample of 30 unrelated bulls and 36923 single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) covering all cattle autosomes. The squared correlation of the alleles at two loci (r(2)) was used as a measure of LD. The analysis of adjacent marker pairs revealed that the level of LD decreases rapidly with physical distance between SNPs. Overall mean r(2) was 0.205 (+/- 0.262). Strong LD (r(2)>0.8) and useful LD (measured as r(2)>0.2) were observed within genomic regions of up to 720 and 724kb, respectively. We analysed the genetic structure of the BLA population and found stratification. The observed genetic sub-structuring is consistent with the known recent demographic history that occurred during BLA breed formation. Our results indicate that LD mapping of phenotypic traits in the BLA population is feasible; however, because of this sub-structuring, special care is needed to reduce the likelihood of false-positive associations between marker loci and traits of interest
