Arguments in the Streets Became More Frequent
Our contemporary societal condition is comprised of an involuntary association of humans to a system which prioritizes Authoritarianism, hierarchy, and capitalism. In other words this system supports a systemic or enforced inequality which favours and rewards the privileged few and disenfranchises and criminalizes the marginalized many. Architecture is complicit in this condition. This being said, I am motivated to change the way architecture operates. The best way to change the praxis of architecture to better address this negative condition is through the development of an anarchist architectural/spatial practice. This anarchist architecture is intended to be revolutionary as well as constructive and pragmatic. Anarchist architecture seeks to subvert the complicity of architecture to the above condition and strives to affect positive social change through a multiplicity of tactics.
Using Toronto as a subject, this thesis is an experiment in a constructive anarchist architectural praxis which manifests itself through the craft of archiving, critical détournement, and the development of new spatial conditions
Function of glutathione in Arabidopsis immunity and glucosinolate metabolism
Induced defense responses in plants usually involve biosynthesis of antimicrobial metabolites and their targeted secretion at the site of pathogen contact. Our recent study on the model plant Arabidopsis
revealed a novel pathogen triggered metabolism pathway for glucosinolates, amino acid-derived thio-glucosides characteristic for crucifer plants that so far were mainly known as insect deterrents (Bednarek et al. 2009)
Nitrile ylides: allenic and propargylic structures from pyrazinylnitrenes. Experimental and theoretical characterization
Matrix photolysis of 2-pyrazinyl azides/tetrazolo[1,5-a]pyrazines generates nitrile ylides 15 via pyrazinylnitrenes 13 and triazacycloheptatetraenes 14. The nitrile ylides 15 are characterized by IR spectroscopy in conjunction with harmonic and anharmonic vibrational frequency calculations. The nitrile ylides exist in the matrices in the Z,Z-conformations in which they are born. Substitution on the nitrile carbon of nitrile ylides has a profound effect on their structure. Even different conformers of the same molecule can have differences up to 200 cm in the IR absorptions of the ylide moieties. Nitrile ylides 15a and 15b (R = H or Cl, R' = H) have allenic structures (15 Allenic). Nitrile ylide 15c (R = R′ = CH) has a distinctly propargylic structure (15 Propargylic) in the experimentally observed Z,Z-conformation
YODA MAPK kinase kinase regulates a novel immunity pathway conferring broad-spectrum resistance to pathogens
Plant mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK) casca
des transduce environmental molecular signals and developmental cues into cellular responses. Among these signals are the pathogen-associated molecular patterns (PAMPs) that upon recognition by plant pattern recognition receptors (PRR), including Receptor-Like Kinases (RLKs), activate MAPK cascades that regulate PAMP-triggered immunity responses (PTI)
Intrauterine deaths — an unsolved problem in Polish perinatology
Objectives: The Polish criteria for “intrauterine death” include fetal demise after 22 weeks of gestation, weighing > 500 g and body length at least 25 cm, when the gestational age is unknown. The rate of fetal death in Poland in 2015 is 3:10,000. In 2020, 1,231 stillbirths were registered. Material and methods: An analysis using 142,662 births in the period between 2015–2020 in 11 living in Poland. The first subgroup was admitted as patients > 22 to the beginning of the 30th week of pregnancy (n = 229), and the second from the 30th week of pregnancy inclusively (n = 179). In the case of women from both subgroups, there was a risk of preterm delivery close to hospitalization. Results: It was found that stillbirth in 41% of women in the first pregnancy. For the patient, stillbirth was also the first in his life. The average stillbirth weight was 1487 g, the average body length was 40 cm. Among fetuses up to 30 weeks, male fetuses are born more often, in subgroup II, the sex of the child was usually female. Most fetal deaths occur in mothers < 15 and > 45 years of age. Conclusions: According to the Polish results of the origin of full-term fetuses > 30 weeks of gestation for death in the concomitant antenatal, such as placental-umbilical and fetal hypoxia, acute intrapartum effects rarely, and moreover < 30 Hbd fetal growth restriction (FGR), occurring placental-umbilical, acute intrapartum often
Joint Observation of the Galactic Center with MAGIC and CTA-LST-1
MAGIC is a system of two Imaging Atmospheric Cherenkov Telescopes (IACTs), designed to detect very-high-energy gamma rays, and is operating in stereoscopic mode since 2009 at the Observatorio del Roque de Los Muchachos in La Palma, Spain. In 2018, the prototype IACT of the Large-Sized Telescope (LST-1) for the Cherenkov Telescope Array, a next-generation ground-based gamma-ray observatory, was inaugurated at the same site, at a distance of approximately 100 meters from the MAGIC telescopes. Using joint observations between MAGIC and LST-1, we developed a dedicated analysis pipeline and established the threefold telescope system via software, achieving the highest sensitivity in the northern hemisphere. Based on this enhanced performance, MAGIC and LST-1 have been jointly and regularly observing the Galactic Center, a region of paramount importance and complexity for IACTs. In particular, the gamma-ray emission from the dynamical center of the Milky Way is under debate. Although previous measurements suggested that a supermassive black hole Sagittarius A* plays a primary role, its radiation mechanism remains unclear, mainly due to limited angular resolution and sensitivity. The enhanced sensitivity in our novel approach is thus expected to provide new insights into the question. We here present the current status of the data analysis for the Galactic Center joint MAGIC and LST-1 observations
