Phototube tests in the MiniBooNE experiment

The MiniBooNE neutrino oscillation experiment at Fermilab uses 1520 8-inch PMTs: 1197 PMTs are Hamamatsu model R1408 and the rest are model R5912. All of the PMTs were tested to qualify for inclusion in the detector, sorted according to their charge and time resolutions and dark rates. Seven PMTs underwent additional low light level tests. The relative detection efficiency as a function of incident angle for seven additional PMTs was measured. Procedures and results are presented.Comment: 4 pages, 7 figures. Strange quark asymmetry in the nucleon and the NuTeV anomaly

The NuTeV anomaly of a non-universal value of the fundamental parameter sin^2\theta_W in the electroweak theory has been interpreted as an indication for new physics beyond the Standard Model. However, the observed quantity depends on a possible asymmetry in the momentum distributions of strange quarks and antiquarks in the nucleon. This asymmetry occurs naturally in a phenomenologically successful physical model for such parton distributions, which reduces the NuTeV result to only about two standard deviations from the Standard Model.Comment: 4 pages, 5 figures, RevTex4. MiniBooNE: Status of the Booster Neutrino Experiment

    Get PDF
MiniBooNE is preparing to search for nu_mu to nu_e oscillations at Fermilab. The experiment is designed to make a conclusive statement about LSND's neutrino oscillation evidence. We give a status report on the preparation of the experiment and outline the experimental prospects.Comment: 6 pages, To appear in Proceedings of the XIX International Conference on Neutrino Physics and Astrophysics (Neutrino 2000), Sudbury. A new measurement of RbR_b with the ALEPH detector at LEP using five mutually exclusive hemisphere tags is presented. The preliminary result is $R_b = 0.215

How to Use Weak Decays in Analyses of Data on Nucleon Spin Structure Functions

    Get PDF
The use of weak decays to determine proton spin structure is examined in view of possible violations of the Bjorken and Gottfried Sum rules, flavor symmetry breaking and flavor asymmetry in the sea. The use of the neutron decay is found to be unaffected by all these. A method for including these effects in analyses of hyperon decays shows that a flavor-asymmetric sea produced by SU(3) symmetry breaking has only a small effect on results for the total spin carried by quarks. However the strange quark contribution cannot be reliably obtained from charged lepton scattering and weak decay data alone, and requires additional model-dependent input relating nucleon and hyperon wave functions.Comment: 10 pages, Weizmann Report WIS-94/24/May-PH, Tel Aviv Report TAUP 2165-9

Tenant Unions: Legal Rights of Members

    Get PDF
Various articles have been written about the sociological aspects of tenant unions. This paper will consider, however, only the following tenant union problems: 1. the right of a tenant union to provide an attorney to represent its members in the litigation of personal causes against the landlord; 2. the right of a tenant union, acting as an entity, to bargain collectively with the landlord, sign a contract with him, and then enforce the contract; 3. the right of a tenant union to sue the landlord on behalf of its members

Intrinsic Charm Flavor and Helicity Content in the Proton

    Get PDF
Contributions to the quark flavor and spin observables from the intrinsic charm in the proton are discussed in the SU(4) quark meson fluctuation model. Our results suggest that the probability of finding the intrinsic charm in the proton is less than 1%. The intrinsic charm helicity is small and negative, Δc≃−(0.003∌0.015)\Delta c \simeq -(0.003\sim 0.015). The fraction of the total quark helicity carried by the intrinsic charm is less than 2%, and c_\up/c_\dw=35/67.Comment: 4 pages, 2 tables (revised version
