    John Armstrong : Sanguine

    No full text
This publication documents Armstrong’s touring exhibition of oval paintings and rose sculptures. Hatt’s interpretation of the artist’s “affirmative” paintings focuses on Armstrong’s use of words and his choice of materials and technique. Mark’s analysis of selected works in the exhibition highlights the performative/theatrical quality of Armstrong’s work. She also suggests the artist combines visual and literary subjects removed from their habitual contexts, as a way of exploring the conventions of portraiture, still life and romanticism. Battson presents six poems that draw from Armstrong’s paintings as a source of inspiration. Includes a brief text by G. M. Dault on the “Trajectory of Roses.” Short statement by Battson. List of works. Biographical notes. 21 bibl. ref
